This book was a really cute and fun read! Its like a young adult version of The Hating Game! Sidney and Ashers families rented houses every summer next to each other at the lake. Sidney and Asher both lived to torment and tease each other. Some of their pranks were pretty hilarious. Their pranks and antics end up getting them kicked out of their houses and lands them in one house. They team up together to prank the woman who kicked them out of their houses and begin to realize their true ...more

I so badly wanted to love this! Sidney and Asher have spent every summer together since they were 12/13 years old, their parents are best friends. After that first summer though, they have been in a battle of wits. Each one trying to outdo the other with pranks. Sounds cute and fun, right? Well, the first half was but the 2nd half lost its luster for me. By that time, it became strictly a love story, which would have been fine but I wanted more pranks and intense moments between them. The second ...more

"Sidney Walters is a proverbial ray of sunshine-with everyone but me."

Sidney and Asher have one peaceful summer at age fourteen before a battle of pranks ensues for the next four years. Shampoo bottles are replaced with Kool-Aid, flip flops are glued to decks, and floors are covered in mayonnaise. However, after one too many childish pranks, Asher and Sidneys families are asked to leave their rental home by the owner, and they all move into a new place. The two decide to

DNF @52%
My first DNF of the year happened way quicker this year than last, but this book was way too slow and way too long for me to keep reading and be even remotely engaged. I thought this would be a light romance with some enemies to lovers vibes and a fun time would be had by all, but the story just dragged and somehow managed to feel repetative when not that much was happening. The characters were fine, but nothing really stood out about them to make me want to continue. Here's hoping this

The past five summers have been filled with swimming, the lake, and pranks. This summer, Sidney and Asher agreed to a truce, but once they were not preoccupied with their normal antics, these two began to finally recognize the romantic feelings they had been harboring for one another.

Pro: This was a enemies-to-lovers type romance, and I think many will appreciate the way a their well established prank war gave way to a pretty mushy courtship, that was filed with great banter and lots of

I LOVED this book. It was the perfect beach read. It was a cute romance read. I resonated with Sydney and Asher's relationship and how everyone around them knew they'd end up together and how they were "friends"/knew each other a long time before getting officially together. I also liked how they matured and grew through their relationship. I appreciated them breaking up, going to college, learning more about themselves, and then coming back together. One of the dreams of my life is to have a ...more

This was such an entertaining read as a whole, even if a little bit predictable, exactly what I expected from this kind of story. If you're into summer-feels, hate-to-love romances, you should love this one !

I don't read a ton of contemporary romance, but I have a few favorite authors for the genre.  Jessica Pennington is one of them.

Sidney and Asher started off as friends.  Their parents were best friends and they started renting lake houses next to each other in Riverton.  Something happened at the end of that first summer that changed things.  From that point on, they played pranks on each other.  These weren't silly little pranks either.  They were well thought out, extreme things.  It's not

I received an Advance Reader Copy from the publisher, via NetGalley. This in no way impacted on my view.

This book was the first by Jessica Pennington, but I can tell you, it won't be the last. Initially, I was drawn in by the gorgeous cover, and by the synopsis. I love enemies to lover books, and the idea that the two main characters, Sidney and Asher have spent most of their summers together at the lake house was something I wasn't willing to pass up the opportunity to read.

For years, Sidney

I got an advanced copy from Edelweiss Plus in exchange for an honest review. This is only the second book I've read by the author, the first being "When Summer Ends", another book I was given an advanced copy of for a review.

Surprisingly, the story takes place in the same town as the prior story I mentioned above. This time, Sidney and Asher vacation there with their families every year, and for years have been pranking each other. But when their pranks go too far and get them kicked out of

Sidney and Asher spend their summer holidays together because their parents are friends. Their first summer together, their relationship used to be good. But they started to prank each other. Their pranks escalated until one of them is the last straw. And they are kicked from the lake house they have been staying all this summers.
Forced to live in the same house now, they decide to call a truce. And that's the moment when they

This is my favorite book of Pennington's yet. I've loved all of them, but Meet Me at Midnight stands out in a way I can't quite put words to. I think part of it is the growth in Pennington's writing, which is bound to come with each book she writes. And part of it is the characters, I simply loved Sidney and Asher. They are equal parts hilarious and awful, sweet and sour...much as we all are at that heading-to-college age. And maybe that's the crux of what I loved - watching their growth and ...more

**BOOK HUG & SIGH** So many warm fuzzies. Now Im craving a re-read of When Summer Ends and Love, Songs and Other Lies.

MEET ME AT MIDNIGHT checks the boxes of some of my favorite things:
- Witty, sarcastic dialogue & characters
- Hate to love
- Perception vs reality
- Beach, lake location

I just love Asher and Sidney. And this quote (one of my favorites) pretty much sums up their relationship.

Never underestimate how much I want to pry your brain open, Sidney Walters. 😆

Usually, I dont go for YA romance. But this one pulled me in immediately by its blurb. I requested this because the premise sounded extremely intriguing and also Im trash for enemies to lovers trope. So, I had to pick this one up immediately. Also, because it was summer in Sydney where I was vacationing and this book was a perfect read for the occasion.

We get POV of both Sidney and Asher, which was an amazing

5 stars. I think this book is a winner for anyone who wants to experience the thrill of young love in a beautiful summer setting. The characters were real, and their dialogue was fun and relatable. Everything was well written and kept me wanting to read more. The last night, I stayed up well past midnight because I needed to know how it would end for Syd and Asher (swoon).

I am blown away by how much I enjoyed this book,

It's hard getting on board a romance between two people who treat each other so badly, especially when they have very few actual conversations about why they "hate" each other. Pennington hints that those conversations will happen, and have happened, but in almost every instance, she side-steps showing us the conversations, themselves, in favor of giving us a flashback to the summer when Asher and Sidney were kind to one another. Instead of watching current-day Asher and Sidney connect, I'm told ...more

Sidney and Asher only spend two months a year together so they have to make it memorable. Every summer both families rent lake houses, forcing Sidney and Asher to spend quality time together. The only problem is that theyve been rivals since their first summer on the lake.

At the beginning of the summer before college, their prank war resumes with Sidney and Asher causing more trouble than ever before...which leads to both families getting

DNF a 40%.

Sidney & Asher are arch-nemesis. They reunite every summer when their families vacation together at the same log cabin camping ground and spend the summer one-upping each other with pranks. One of the pranks goes too far and they're forced to vacate the campground. Sidney and Asher decide to play one last prank, though not on each other, but on the campground owner as revenge and are forced to push their differences aside.

I'm disappointed! I really enjoyed this in the beginning.

Confession: Lake Michigan in the summertime is my all-time favorite place in the world; so I was immediately hooked from page 1. I am a huge fan of a love/hate storyline and this had that and so much more. What I really love is the story is told from both Sidney and Ashers points of view. It spans the whole summer and then a few months of college. Personally, I would love to see this story play out and have a book following the pair through their college years. The epilogue was only a page and I ...more

I ADORED this book. I don't normally get so invested in YA contemporaries but this book made me laugh, cry, and feel connected to the characters throughout. The shift from prank wars to dating felt like it progressed naturally and believably. Sidney's reservations felt real and reasonable. I wanted these two characters to be happy together. I feel like Pennington's writing style created the perfect tone for this story. Highly recommend picking this one up!

This was a pretty basic YA summer contemporary and the characters didn't really have a personality beyond being annoying. Also, the enemies to lovers trope was very weak. The romance started happening way too quickly.

I loved this book. It made me laugh and I lost count of all the times I went "aww". It was nice to see a summer YA novel that was set in Michigan. I highly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed.
