I've been lucid dreaming for years. If you don't know what it means, basically lucid dreaming is when you become aware that you're dreaming. Sometimes during a lucid dream, the dreamer has the ability to manipulate their dream to achieve a desired outcome. Have you ever woken from a bad dream and wanted to 'go back in' and fix it? Perhaps change the outcome for a happy ending? Or have you woken from a very pleasant dream and tried to get back to sleep to continue the story or dream experience? That's lucid dreaming.

And you might be interested to know that Albert Einstein, Charles Dickens, Thomas Edison, Stephen King, Nikola Tesla and Salvador Dali are - or were - lucid dreamers.

Charlie Morley is somewhat of an expert on lucid dreaming with a number of books on the topic. I first learned of his abilities and teachings when listening to Sleeping with Baddiel by Geoff Jein, which I gave one star in my review.

In Lucid Dreaming Made Easy - A Beginner's Guide to Waking Up in Your Dreams, Charlie introduces the reader to several techniques to start lucid dreaming and the book kicks off from there. I thought I was an experienced and capable lucid dreamer, but it turns out I'm still a beginner. Apparently there's sooooo much more to lucid dreaming and I've only been scratching the surface.

Charlie researches the history of lucid dreaming around the world and across different cultures. He highlights the different ways in which it can be used to heal trauma, and advance spiritual awareness. And interestingly, he has practiced with and interviewed experts in the field from Eastern and Western philosophies.

Lucid Dreaming Made Easy is essentially a science self-help book and it can be heavy going at times. It's chock full of references to other dream scientists and religions practicing lucid dreaming, and will give the enthusiastic reader plenty of jumping off points to explore the topic further.

Some of the exercises and tips began to make me feel as though I was in the movie Inception and I don't think I'll ever aspire to the lofty heights of lucid dreaming that I now know exist.

However after listening to this audiobook, I am attempting to exercise greater control over my lucid dreams. Instead of continuing or changing an existing dream, I'm trying to choose a new topic altogether and form a dream directly from my imagination. I haven't been successful yet, but I'll keep on trying; until I fall asleep that is.

As Charlie says: "follow your dreams and dream on dreamers."

Audiobook duration: 5 hr 18 minutes
Narrator: Charlie Morley

Morley did a great job narrating this introductory book to lucid dreaming. His knowledge and experience is apparent and he narrows down 7 tools to use to start lucid dreaming. Everything is clearly explained, including anecdotes, case studies, and research references. The only thing I disliked was his tendency to say things like "This is just an introduction, so read my other book, X, to learn more on that". That happened over and over.

I discovered Charlie Morley via a Mark Hyman (The Doctor's Farmacy episode 64) podcast. https://drhyman.com/blog/2019/07/24/p...
I've been interested in learning to lucid dream for many years, but this is the first time I'd associated the term lucid with my desire to control my dreams, and the first time I've gotten serious about trying to be aware that I'm dreaming and influence my dreams.
Charlie reads the audio himself; his British accent makes this an "easy on the ears" listen. He has loads of ideas to help one get started with lucid dreaming. His book is filled with case studies of people he has worked with who have had successful experiences with lucid dreaming.
I also realized there are many more benefits to lucid dreaming than simply eliminating nightmares or stressful dreams. You can improve your physical performance in sports, work through creative blocks, answer questions about your path in life, heal from PTSD, and many other positive things. Your ability to do this in sleep can really improve your waking hours.
I'd definitely recommend this book for anyone interested in starting down a lucid dreaming path. I haven't been successful in my lucid dreaming yet, but I've been applying the techniques and hopefully at some point I'll get there.
If you do listen to the audio, you might also choose to order the book in print; there are lists that you'll want to be able to access. I wasn't always in a place where I could take notes while listening.

Since reading Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams by Matthew Walker, I have acquired an appreciation of the benefits of good quality sleep as an aid to good health and wellbeing. Interestingly, dreaming which we might take for granted appears to be very much part of the process of improving both mental and physical health.

I found Lucid Dreaming by Charlie Morley (introduced in Matthew Walker's book) a fascinating read. In a Lucid dream, you don't just experience dreaming, but consciously recognise that you are in a dream state and take 'control'. The author covers the ancient tradition of lucid dreaming from across the world (Asia, Africa and America's) as well as providing a toolbox to help the reader develop the practice.

Overall, this is a very enlightening subject that you need to approach with an open mind.

This was a nice introduction to Lucid Dreaming. It explained what it is, how can it help and how to go into Lucid Dreaming.
I learned that one of the best methods to sell bullshit is to mix it with some facts. Unfortunately, this book has done this numerous times. Referencing studies that were conducted on Lucid Dreaming was good but to reference studies that were done on other aspects of sleep and attribute Lucid Dreaming to them, this was crossing the line. At the end of the book the author showed his true colours. Talking about nonsensical spiritual things like talking to the dead, collective consciousness, and healing pathological ailments using Lucid Dreaming only. The book was nice as an introduction to Lucid Dreaming and it was a good introduction because after a small research on other books on the matter it looks like Lucid Dreaming does has some solid science behind it but unfortunately there is a lot of bullshit attributed to it.

There was a time when I experienced lucid dreaming quite regularly. Then I got out of the habit, and recently I thought it might be time to revisit it. Charlie Morley's book is fun and practical, and (although this time of year is probably not ideal for me to begin again) it is full of beginner's tips to start lucid dreaming. I have at least started my dream diary and am working towards incorporating the other techniques into my waking and sleeping life (in case anyone in the non-digital world sees me looking at my hand, turning it over, then back, and looking at it again - you have to read the book to find out what I mean!).

Through reading this book, I’ve managed to have more lucid dreams, understand myself better, learn to face my nightmares. And recently I’ve been feeling more confident and accepting of who I am by using his methods of giving thanks to your body. This book helps me with my social anxiety and depression!

I found this a fascinating read. I didn't set out to investigate lucid dreaming, but am interested in anything to do with the workings of the subconscious mind, and by chance, came across Charlie's book in my local library. I was hooked by the time I'd read the first couple of pages. Charlie's voice comes across very clearly throughout the book, and the way he presents information makes this a very easy book to read. Nevertheless, I read it in small chunks as the book is packed so full of information. It is presented simply, then the main points are summed up at the end of each section. Charlie's toolkits are a further aid towards consolidation of the information presented in each chapter. There are a few case studies, links to further reading on the various topics covered, and reference to various research studies. This is a little book, containing an awful lot.

I read/listened to this book cover to cover and have tried all the techniques in the book! I have my dream plans and I know when I'm dreaming. I see everything as a movie and I have not gotten to the point where I can take control of the dream. I have been using the techniques to remember my dreams and recall them hours later. The lessons in this book I've found very useful! I have recommended this book to others to help them learn to lucid dream!

I enjoyed this book very much. I was already experiencing some strange dream phenomenons that lead me to finding this book at a metaphysical store. This guide offered so many insights to what I was experiencing and many tools for expanding on them and becoming lucid. I am looking forward to moving on to read Dreams of Awakening.

I couldn't wait to write this review. This is one of the very few books I've read that actually held my attention. Very interesting. Read it once , but will be reading again and taking notes this time. I like the idea of using lucid dreaming for healing. Definitely a topic I will be reading more on and studying. Great read.

Útil, compacto, entretenido. Exceso de abrechakrismo para mi gusto (algo casi inevitable por la temática), pero en cualquier caso buen libro como introducción generalista y amena a las técnicas del sueño.

I read this because I've had lucid dreams almost every night of my life, but this book was weird and exhausting, anecdotal, and unrelatable? I think I just entered this subject in the wrong spot.
