Ever since a devastating family tragedy seventeen years ago, Grace Bighill has struggled to keep her remaining family from falling apart. Then the discovery of her mother's body in the woods unearths a connection to a decades old murder case, and Grace is dragged into a politician's bitter bid for revenge.
Constable Mike Davenport's days in Aspen Lake are numbered. He's ready to take his next step up the career ladder somewhere a lot more cosmopolitan. He's avoided any emotional attachments, despite having fallen hard for a certain stubborn local. But when a body turns up, Mike's careful intentions collapse in the face of Grace's grief and her exhaustive efforts to care for her family.
A search for answers leads Grace and Mike down a twisted path proving no one can escape their roots. But someone might die trying.
I grew up on a farm in the middle of Canada's breadbasket. Under the canopy of crisp blue prairie skies I read books. Lots and lots of books. Occasionally, I picked up a pen and paper or tapped out a few meagre pages of a story on a keyboard and dreamed of becoming a writer when I grew up. One day the inevitable happened and I knew without question the time was right. What to write was never the issue - romance and the gut wrenching journey towards forever.
Once this book is picked up, all plans need to be cancelled for a couple of hours because this is a devour-in-a-single-sitting kind of story, no exceptions.
I sometimes don't assign starred ratings to books by friends, given the challenges of objectivity. This said, I thoroughly enjoyed this new and latest novel from Karyn Good. GONE features complex and believable characters with multi-layered issues that are given their due attention and play themselves out in this 350-page read. Characters are shown in vivid detail, and we're treated to both their "outer" and "inner" worlds, and how they often come in conflict within the individual and drive subsequent actions - not to mention these layers playing out strongly as the characters' worlds and dreams clash with one another. The Aspen Lake setting is vivid and rich, with lots happening in this small-town community - and the suspense only continues to grow as secrets and longstanding hostilities come to a head in a gripping climax...that only continues to escalate and impact the lives of everyone involved. Great pacing, well-researched, and a great read!
This is my first time reading this author and it won’t be my last! The author has come up with a brilliant plot that grabbed me and didn’t let go. There are lots of twists and turns in this thriller that kept my mind engaged to the very end of the book. Wonderfully written but you need to pay attention or you might end up missing something! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
audible:I haven't read the first two books.I liked this book, the storyline was good.I had a hard time with the 'flow' of the thing. It seemed choppy to me.There were too many names to keep seperate,BUT they may have been in the other books I missed.Narration by Carly Kincaid was good, but there was the flow issue. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.'
Gone, the first book I have read by this author is about a devastating family tragedy that is still affecting everyone around Grace. If that was not enough her mother's body is found in the woods and it seems there may be a connection to the seventeen-year-old case. A search for answers leads Grace and Mike down a twisted path proving no one can escape their roots. But someone might die trying.
This is a very well written story. It held my interest until the very end. This was my first book by this author but I will be watching for more of their work.I received this as an ARC in return for my honest review. I recommend this book.

Karyn Good is an incredible teller of tales. Her characters are believable and more importantly likeable. If she's not already a one-click author for you, read this book and she will be.
The author wrote a thriller that started with a bang and just kept going! The twists kept coming, so I couldn't put it down. I cannot wait to read more from this author!
