Great aerial photography with expert captioning and explanations by Pohanka. I liked that the photographs are aligned chronologically with the Civil War, so the book basically tells the story of the Civil War in pictures.

This is a very nice coffee table-style book featuring aerial photos of various famous American Civil War battle sites that have been preserved in states where these events occurred. The photos not only reveal the pastoral beauty of our countryside, but they also put into perspective the scale of these conflicts between the armed forces of the North & South. Accompanying the aerial pictures are black & white photos taken before or after the battles. Pohanka’s text consists of brief details of specific battles and quotes from the general officers involved.
