Out of all the adoption books I have bought for the girls, this one is my favourite and the one that fits closest to the story of how they came to our family. Highly recommended for families of children who have been in the system/foster care/apprehended from birth parents etc.

This is an excellent book for children in foster care who are struggling to understand what is happening to their families. It normalizes the feelings of anger, betrayal, loneliness, and not fitting in and does it in a way that shows that there can still be a good ending. The depiction of the kitten going to a foster home full of all different kinds of animals is a great way to show how strange and difficult it can be to suddenly be in foster care.

I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

A story of a kitten being taken from his home and being moved to a foster home. It does touch on very real issues (mom cat scratches baby kitten which is why the kitten is taken away). Definitely read first before reading to your kiddos.

My mom would read this to me as a child. This book helped me get through the strange emotions that come from being a foster or adopted child.

A very heart warming book that describes how kids in foster care and in the process of being adopted are going through. This experience affects them emotionally, mentally and even physically in all places they go to including school. Often children in foster care might feel confused in regards to belonging and this book does a great job to helping kids understand that blood is not necessarily needed to be loved and taken care of.

I liked this book. Reminded my of things i've learned in psychology. Pretty cute. Even though i'm not adopted, based off studies i've done, and things i've learned in nursing and psychology, it's a great metaphor for what adopted children go through. This is just a book with animals instead.

3.5 stars--The illustrations, though sketchbook-light on the page, are so sweet. Zachary the kitten, who is fostered by a duck family, goes through some rough patches before settling in with his new caretakers. Zachary is adorable and I loved the animals throughout the story, adding a whimsical touch to a realistic story about a child experiencing foster care.
