When a book brings LOL (laughing out loud) into reality in 2018, you know you're onto something special. I loved that I was able to go on a journey of soul discovery while also not having to take myself too seriously. There is a lightness and humour created by the author that holds your hand while you dive into the real and raw parts of yourself. This beautiful read had me nodding along, saying 'yeeess me too' and put a serious pep in my step for the future. If you're ready to change your relationship with fear and find out what becoming brave looks like on you, than I highly recommend trying this book on for size.

Katie Dean says all the things you’re thinking, and that you know every one else is thinking, but that no one is actually talking about. In Becoming Brave Katie brings refreshing, raw, real honesty to the table, and offers it up with a side of sass and a whole lot of heart. This book made me laugh, it made me cry and it almost gave me whip lash I was nodding my head so passionately and screaming to myself ‘OH MY GOD ME TOO!’

If you’re looking for unself-helpy self-help; more personal growth and development without the fluff and BS but with some F-Bombs, truth bombs and the uncomfortable-but-necessary questions that will help you dig deeper into who you are to unleash your own badass self, then this book is for you! I can’t recommend Becoming Brave highly enough - this is the book that I will gift and recommend to all my friends, family and random acquaintances.

Becoming Brave stands out for its refusal to treat courage as performance.

Katie Dean writes from lived experience, offering a permission-based approach to bravery that values sensitivity, messiness, and honesty over hype. Rather than urging readers to “push through” fear, she reframes it as something to understand and work with a perspective that feels both grounding and humane.

The tone is warm, conversational, and gently sassy without tipping into cliché, making the guidance feel accessible and real. For creative, spiritually curious women who feel out of sync with traditional self-help, this book offers reassurance, clarity, and a sustainable path toward self-trust.

A thoughtful, affirming read that meets readers where they are and doesn’t ask them to become someone else to be brave.

I wasn’t sure about this book at first, as I’m a bit skeptical of self help books, however it was pleasantly surprising. Katie dives deep into feelings I’ve buried right down inside and then forces me to think about them - very powerful writing. She provides honest examples from herself and others in her life, and I think actually physically writing down answers to the questions makes you get so much more from her words. Katie Dean, you’ve managed to convince me that self help books can actually be helpful. A good read if you’re feeling unsure, stuck, unmotivated or just damn flat.

Every so often a book comes along and changes your life. This is one of those books.
“Fear is nothing more than a chance for you to be brave”
I will continue to follow Katie’s journey and her words have given me perspective on some areas in my life that needed it.
