Nicole Fitzhenry-Dawes feels like she finally has the life she always wanted. She's working on figuring out her new role as a wife, settling into her job as a partner at a law firm, and preparing to plant new trees at Sugarwood.
Right up until her dog digs up a skeleton at the spot where they're supposed to plant their trees.
Nicole's hopes for avoiding being sucked into the decade-old crime go up in smoke when her nemesis calls in the favor she owes him. And as she tries to dig up the truth, it begins to look like the past could have terrible consequences for her future.
Rooted in Murder is the tenth book in Emily James’ Maple Syrup Mysteries. If you love small-town settings, quirky characters, and a dollop of romance, then you’ll want to buy this amateur sleuth mystery series today!
I was never more happy than when I learned a new Maple Syrup mystery was coming out. Now, having read the latest edition, I'm thrilled!
This novel picked up, flawlessly, from the last 'End of the Line.' It was written with the same characters and dialog than had endeared the series to me from book one.
Clever mystery, clever clues, the dialog made you feel right in the action.
Welcome back and I hope to read years more of this cozy series.
Hint: Read them from the first novel as you won't be disappointed!
Emily James is a wonderfully creative author who is really tuned in to what her readers love most. I am so grateful James loves her characters as much as we do or The End Of The Line would have been just that.
Nicole and Mark are now married and stumbling hand-in-hand through married bliss, cooking, walking dogs and forgetting to buy the groceries.
This "huge favor" she owes really takes Nicole on this twisting and turning mess as she is forced to defend someone she has never met and doesn't know if they are guilty or innocent. The following events seem to have a snowball effect.
Each book in this series gets better and better. I love this series! It is a series you read over and over and enjoy each and every time. Hopefully Emily James will always feel another story well up, dust off that sleepy tourist town and reunite this friendly, loving cast of characters and write 'just one more'....until the next adventure bubbles its way up.
I received a copy of this book free in exchange for an honest review
A terrific read. It all centres on a skeleton found in the field they have just purchased. A skeleton of a man that everyone had thought had left town years ago. Now the favour she owed Grady has been called in. To keep his sister out of jail. Then the problems begin. The more they find out the more she and then Chase look guilty. Plus someone is trying to sabotage the sale of the land that they want to expand on. Add in being buried alive and she has more than enough. Will she survive and who did kill the young man (the terror of the area)?
I’ve been enjoying this clean cozy mystery series. Something I specifically liked about this book is the way Nicole, in trying to read people, occasionally could relate an aspect of her own experience to theirs. Despite her initial assumptions, she discovered their situations and reactions were far different than her own. I thought it was a good life insight not to jump to conclusions.
Because it's book 11 in the series, a reader starting here won't know some of the names or backstories. That much recapping would bog down the story.
I have been enjoying these Maple Syrup Mysteries from one to eleven! Actually, I've binged read most of them. It's like eating cheese puffs until the bag is empty. It is definitely time I gave more than just 5 stars but used my words to say how much I have been enjoying Ms. James writing. I've already started the Cupcake Truck series as well as #12 in this series. Please keep doing what you do so well!
A buried body is found on land Nicole is trying to buy. Turns out it belongs to the ex-boyfriend of Grady's sister Daphne. Grady calls in the favor owed and asks Nicole to represent her. During this time paperwork for the land sale goes missing twice. Read how Nicole finds the connection between murder and missing paperwork amidst the lies, manipulation, twists and turns of this story.
I have liked this series since the beginning. There are things that don’t resonate with me - like a woman as put together and intuitive in so many other ways being inordinately oblivious to her own body, or the increasingly Jesus laden internal dialogue- but the books are always a good mystery and interesting characters.
Another great story! The plot had just enough twists and turns to keep me guessing until the end. I love all the characters, both old and new. I can't wait to read the next book!
Great story. Just when you think that you know who did it, there’s more info and things change. So you keep reading just another 5 minutes and then “The end”. Great plot!!!
