Terri Blackstock has been writing Christian fiction and suspense novels for a number of years and has had over 30 titles published. Smoke Screen is her most recent release and my first Blackstock book. And it won't be my last!

Blackstock writes like the veteran she is. Her writing style is polished, yet simple and engaging. I found myself very easily drawn into the story within a page or two. The plot and pacing are flawless; while not especially action-packed, there's never a moment

Smoke Screen was an enjoyable book filled with twists and turns to keep the readers guessing. Author Terri Blackstock has a way of dipping deep into the readers’ emotions and creating an authentic story that is both relatable and compelling. Her portrayal of the contentious custody battle between Jack and Brenna was unfortunately very realistic and common with parents who have gone through a divorce. My heart broke for Brenna as she had to deal with all the ugliness and hatred from her ex-husban ...more

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Smoke Screen is one of the best Christian Fiction books I have read recently. Nate Beckett who is a smoke jumper fire fighter who finds his life turned sideways which leads him back to home town of Carlisle, Colorado to heal his wounds. Back home he crosses paths with a past love in Brenna who is struggling in her own life situation. Will the pains of the past continue to haunt both of them or

This book was not what I was expecting at all. It was more like a depressing fictional drama than a suspense book. I could not find myself rooting for any of the characters and I really wanted more in the way of mystery, suspense, and plot in general. 90% of the book focused on Brenna’s alcoholism and custody battle. She was hard to empathize with and hard to like. I have a hard time thinking that the alcoholic needs custody of her children. I’m not sure what Nate saw in her and that made me que ...more

Terri Blackstock should have the title Queen of Romantic Suspense. I downloaded this book after church on Sunday and thought I would just peruse a few pages to see what it was about. I didn't stop until after midnight when I read The End. Seriously, I could not put this book down. I loved the hero. He was definitely that. A hero. The heroine was one I had to warm up to, but could empathize with. She was in a very bad place in her life. As far as the bad guy, I had an idea who it was, but it didn ...more

He hasn't been there for years and the past comes flooding back in more ways than one. His father has just been released from prison and still claims he wasn't the one who killed the pastor father of Nate's childhood sweetheart Brenna. Some in town still believe that Nate burned down the church in revenge for his father's imprisonment, but Nate has othe ...more

Smoke Screen is a fantastic romantic suspense. The author has once again delivered a book with a plot that will keep you guessing and on the edge of your seat. Characters are believable and relatable. I love love Ms. Blackstock’s books and this one was no exception. Fans of suspense will not want to miss this book. My thanks to the publisher for my advance ebook. This is my unbiased review.

Excellent book by Terri Blackstock!

Noah was my favorite character by far! He is a smokejumper now and is much wiser than he was when he left home.

These childhood sweethearts were driven apart when one of their fathers goes to jail for killing the other one’s father. 14 years later they are reunited through some difficult circumstances.

I love their dependence on God to bring them through each twist and turn.

I absolutely loved “Smoke Screen” by Terri Blackstock! I have never read a book by Terri Blackstock that I haven’t loved. This one is a little different than her other books that I’ve read, but she still delivered!

This book is told from the perspective of two different people, Brenna and Nate. Brenna and Nate were in love once, when they were 16! Since then, they broke up and both of their lives have taken a different turn. Both Brenna and Nate’s fathers weren’t happy about the idea

Terri Blackstock’s last three books, the If I Run series, are some of my favorites in the suspense genre, so maybe my expectations were too high for this one, but I didn’t love it. The premise sounded really interesting, but it ended up being more family drama than suspense. That's fine and has its place, but not the action-packed suspense I was hoping for. When the suspense aspect did come into play, the crimes were solved almost by coincidence more than any investigation. Nate was a great hero ...more

Brenna and Nate were high school sweethearts, a relationship that ended in heartache when Nate's father was convicted of killing Brenna's father. Soon after, Nate left town amid accusations that he'd burned down the local church. Fast forward almost 15 years, and Nate returns to town an injured hero, and Brenna is fighting a bitter custody battle for her two children. Nate's father has been released from prison, but most people still believe he is guilty, including Nate. While Nate tries to reco ...more

I've always liked Terri Blackstock's books. This was no exception. She captures the emotional wreck(what I imagine is pretty realistic) of divorce, a custody battle, and what plays into Brenna's depression and alcohol abuse. Nate, the other main character, is the stable, logical, God-centered character that helps Brenna through the ordeal. I think Blackstock did a good job with the romance part of the novel, not making it about the two characters 'fixing' each other. The plot wasn't surprising b ...more

Smoke Screen. Just the title and knowing Terri Blackstock is the author, is enough for me to be excited. Her books are always full of mystery, suspense, romance, and page-turning surprises. You just never know where the story will go when you start a Terri Blackstock book.

This book is full of complicated lives. There’s Brenna Strickland Herzog, her two children, and her ex-husband and his new trophy wife. Then there’s Nate Beckett, injured smoker jumper finally back home to recuperat

Nate Beckett has spent his life fighting wildfires instead of the lies and rumors that drove him from his Colorado hometown. His mother begs him to come back now that his father has been released from prison, but it isn’t until he’s sidelined by an injury that he’s forced to return and face his past. But that means facing Brenna too.
Fourteen years ago, Nate was in love with the preacher’s daughter. When Pastor Strickland discovered Brenna defied him to sneak out with Nate, the fight betwee

Smoke Screen brings all the suspense and intrigue readers expect from Terri Blackstock. Although not as fast-paced as some of her other novels, Smoke Screen throws readers into the complex lives of Brenna and Nate. The two high school sweethearts are reunited after the years and buried secrets have separated them.

The drama unfolds right from the first page. Brenna is going through a nasty custody battle for her two children. Nate’s job as a smoke jumper sends him back to town to heal from his w

'God is powerful. He could be my dread champion, my rear guard, the one who fihts for me. But I feel like I'm fighting all alone.'

Terri Blackstock returns with a captivating new novel told in two different POVs. Nate Beckett's father spent fourteen years in prison for killing Brenna Strickland's preacher father. Now, Nate's father has been released and Nate has returned to town to recover from a burn injury he's gotten on his job as a smokejumper. Brenna has also returned to town, di
This is the first book by Terri Blackstock that I have read. I've heard such great things about her writing and I was not disappointed. This will definitely not be the last book I read of hers.
The characters were easy to relate to, they felt real and had real world problems. I loved the chemistry between them. Their romance was lovely to read and never felt mushy.
I found this very suspenseful and it kept me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait to see how it all turned out.

This story centre around Brenna, a woman whose husband has left her and who is worried about losing custody of the children, She is struggling to cope and drinking too much when the children are away. Returned to the town is Nate, her teenage boyfriend. They were separated as children after his father was convicted of killing her father, I was expecting the story to be more of a crime novel as they looked into the events of the past but this part of the story is very much backstage. This is esse ...more

You can always count on Terri Blackstock to write a great book, and this one sends it out the park! I was captivated by the first page and couldn’t put it down! It’s a story that’ll capture your heart, as it tackles many life-changing events, from divorce, ugly child custody disputes, and losing a parent, to struggles with alcoholism. I developed a new admiration for the heroic (and sometimes tragic) life of a smokejumper, putting their lives on the line to save cities and towns from what could ...more

I loved this newest book by Terri Blackstock. Nate Beckett is a fireman who fights wildfires. He is injured saving a family from the flames and goes back to his hometown to recuperate when he is told to take some time off to mend. When he gets home, he has to deal with old rumors, situations from the past that were out of his control, confronting his dad who has been released from prison and meeting up with an old high school flame (Brenna), who has situations in her own life that she is dealing ...more

This book is AMAZING!!! Terri is one of the best.
I loved the story of Nate and Brenna. Brenna dealt with problems we all face, anxiety, depression and feeling out of control. We all have a way of coping with problems weather people turn to alcohol or not. She didn't like that she drank but she needed help!
All Nate wanted was to have his dad proud of him. He knew he was in Christ but he still wanted his dad's approval. And let's just discuss for a moment how brave he was to be a smoke

I love Terri Blackstock stories! She did not disappoint in her latest book. This story felt real. The struggle with gaining custody of children after a divorce, the pardon of a murder, (but was he ever truly guilty?), and an unsolved arson are woven in to form a plot that will keep you turning the pages.
Breann, dealing with stress in a destructive way, Nate, a parachute fire fighter trying to heal from burns sustained on the job, and town with prejudices from the past bring you a real look
This latest read of Terry Blackstock did not disappoint. She is one of my faves for Christian suspense novels!

The story is multi-layered centering around a wrongful murder conviction and arson which tore apart two highschool sweethearts a decade previous. Money, corruption, greed, and a custody battle loss seemingly will win over justice. Except God had other plans for Nate and Brenna! This book was a lovely mix of suspenseful twists and romance, and I recommend it to those who enjoy

The title the author gives this book is perfect, and shows up in more than one way, and it becomes crystal clear as you go further into this story.
There appears to be a lot going on here in this small Colorado town, but the action begins in another part of the state with smoke jumpers, and a horrible wild fire, lives are at stake here.
Things do not get more comfortable here, and there is a lot at risk, especially in the lives of young children.
You will be quickly immersed here,

I love how Terri Blackstock writes! This story was easy to read and moved along quickly. I love how she balanced the mystery and the romance so well. Most stories lean more one way than the other. I felt that she made the perfect mix in this one. This is not as suspenseful as many of her books but the story moved along well with an evenly paced eventful plot line.
I am not usually a fan of books written in the first person but Ms. Blackstock's does it so expertly, that I couldn't help but enjoy

Another great book by Terri Blackstock!
Suspense at its best! Fourteen years ago Nate was in love with the preacher's daughter. But then people assumed he set the fire that burned the church down. He left town and never looked back, Until.... He's forced to return and face Brenna.

As Nate and Brenna return to deal with the present, including new information about the fateful night and the wildfire that is threatening their town- What will happen?

You won't want to put this book down.

This story was written in first person, which sometimes throws me off. Terri Blackstock did a good job with it, though. While I enjoyed it, I would say it’s not my favorite from her. There was definitely a mystery, but I wouldn’t consider it suspenseful. I liked the main characters, Nate and Brenna and their relationship. *spoiler alert* I’m glad the author tackled the tough subject matter of alcoholism and some tools used to combat that. I do feel like at least one story line went unresolved, t ...more

This book, hands-down has been my favorite yet by this author. There’s such a deep meaning behind the story and the author was able to tell it in a way, that you connected with the characters and the storyline.

You should have an overwhelming feeling of pride for our main characters as they are both able to overcome personal struggles, defeat personal demons and come out on top!

I was given this book by NetGalley in exchange for my personal opinion and I couldn’t be more pleased with this author
