Would you like to know the best-kept secret in the world?
Love is all a big, stinking scam. No matter what movies and fairytales would have you believe, life proves time and time again that it’s all just a pile of rubbish. Frogs never turn to princes —If anything, Prince Charming has an awful knack for turning out to be a stinking toad.
Noah Allerton thinks so, anyway. He doesn’t believe in love anymore. Why would he? He’d died for it once, and look what that had gotten him: A couple of months before his Romeo decided he wasn’t interesting anymore. Oh, and the eternal inability to go out into the sun without a serious migraine. No, he’d bite his tongue clean off before he ever said those words again.
Joel Wells once thought he had it all under control; he’d married his childhood sweetheart, moved to the city and earned big bucks as a marketing consultant. Some serious burn-out, an amiable but painful divorce, and the loss of his father later and that’s all gone —leaving nothing but melancholy and faded dreams as he takes over the ranch he grew up in and tries to take care of his father’s horses as best he can. He’d believed in love as much as anyone possibly could but that’s all over for him —he had his chance and he blew it.
A party-loving, smart-mouthed vampire and a horse-riding divorcee who’s long since given up on himself —not exactly a fairytale match. But when Noah and Joel find themselves forced to get to know one another, despite their differences and a nefarious force threatening them from the shadows, they discover that maybe they’ve still got a shot at happily-ever-after after all.
Bared is a 65k standalone vampire gay romance, featuring two men learning to give love another chance, a lot of horseriding, a dark secret from the past and lot of steam.

Joel and Noah may have had a rocky start when they first met, but I thought by the end of the story they worked well together. It was interesting to see the perspective of Joel as a newly made Vampire. I thought he adapted remarkably well for someone who knew nothing of vampires before he becomes one. Noah never wanted to sire a vampire, and as we discover more of his past it makes a lot of sense. As they begin to work together, they will discover that despite their rocky start they may have a connection that becomes more than they could have anticipated.
I did find Noah's reactions at times a bit odd. There is a lot of his personality that although abrupt and cold on the surface, made more sense as the story developed and we get to see beyond the surface.
I had a few issues following along with whose perspective was the focus at times in the story. There was a bit too much use of the "older man", "shorter man", etc. and use of pronouns at times where names would have helped keep the perspective easier to follow. It was still a good story, just areas that I wish had flowed a bit smoother.
I've only read one other Taken at Midnight story before this one, so I do think it holds up well as a stand-alone. There are references to characters that have their own books, but it isn't integral to this plot (though I am still interested in reading the other stories just to see them get their HEA).
I enjoyed this fun vampire M/M romance. Neither Noah nor Joel believe in love any more, both having been disappointed by painful relationships in the past, but fate has other plans. There is some danger, surprising twists, steamy scenes, and a story that kept me hooked until the end. This story is related to others, but completely worked as a standalone read.

Not the vampires I’m used to. Which was disappointing. The opening scene in the club was the best part of the book. It didn’t entirely suck, but that was also part of the problem. The vampires didn’t suck, blood that is. This was more vampirism as a blood borne disease that came with the unfortunate side effect of extreme photosensitivity. In fact, it had so little to do with the overall story, that they didn’t need to have been vampires at all and the story would not have been affected.
Noah does not believe in love after the way he was left. Joel also does not believe in love after his divorce from his partner. Joel and Noah were forced to spend some time together and began to believe in second chances in love.

A well written love story of second chances. The story of Noah who doesn't believe in love and Joel who had it and doesn't want it again. Will these two find their happy ending. The characters were well written and the chemistry was steamy. The book will keep you interested till the end.
