Helena has cornered the market on Hockey sports romance pretty much like a queen.
Her family of characters continues to grow and we get to enjoy hilarious and poignant anecdotes from the sidelines. She introduces us to another star athlete -Rook RJ Bowman, who's the Captain of Chicago's NHL team and a chick magnate.

An emotionally, persuasive, addicting, and enticing romance novel that will have you weak on your knees for more of Lainey and Rookie...

So I have been in such a massive book slump, a book slump that has me so behind on my Goodreads book challenge. Of course, Helena Hunting knows how to swoop in and destroy all my emotions and make me fall head over heels with her writing all over again. Not that I wasn't already, but this book slump has been killing me in the worst of ways. Lainey and Rookie have found a way to fin

Ughhhh. I'm upset. I went into this thinking I was going to get a cute, second-chance romance set in Alaska and instead I got (view spoiler). If you don't mind that trope, you'll probably enjoy this as it wasn't necessarily a terrible book! However, that trope is literally my least favorite romance trope and it ruined the entire book for me. I definitely think that the synopsis of this book should b ...more

I should tell him my own truth. But for now we’re tied: a lie for a lie.

A Lie for a Lie is what I call a great start to a promising spin-off series. If you’ve read Hunting’s Pucked series, then you will be familiar with some of the characters in this one. That being said I don’t think it’s necessary to read them to enjoy this one, because I’ve only read a couple and easily followed along here. Rook and Lainey spend a sweet and steamy few weeks together in the Alaskan wilderness. But circums

A Lie for a Lie is a fun and sexy second-chance contemporary romance. Rook is confident and a reformed player, and Lainey is somewhat of a sweet, nervous and naive type. They say opposites attract and that was definitely the case for this couple. I enjoyed the way they met and the setting of th

How does she do it every single time??? My freaking heart. Rook owns my heart! I laughed. I am so amped up for a new series, a new world, and new hockey players to fall in love with.

This series is the spin-off of one of my absolute favorite sports romance series, Pucked series.
This book is about Rookie, now the captain of the team.

Rookie: I absolutely loved Rookie. His days of party and girls are over and he is tired of that lifestyle. Every year, he used to go for some peace and quiet with his dad and his brother to Alaska. But ever since his dad died, he hasn't been ba

Helena Hunting is one of my favorite authors and I couldn't wait to dive into this Pucked series spin-off. A Lie for a Lie is a combination of several different tropes, but at its heart, it's a very sweet second chance sports romance. It's a little less romcom than some of her other books, but there are still plenty of laughs as well as feels. While it's not necessary to read the Pucked series first, fans of that series will be delighted by all the cameos and appearances by some of Helena Hunting's ...more

First off, let me just start by saying I LOVE SPORTS ROMANCES. Even the horrendously bad ones will keep my attention and most likely leave me in a fit of gleeful giggles. This was not a horrible book. Not by any stretch of the imagination! It was fun, flirty and had that perfect Bridget-Jones’ level of awkwardness. If you’re after a quick and adorable HEA read with a nerdy, shy-as-all-get-out gal and hunky, considerate, athletic guy then you’re in the right place!

This is a second chance romance between our main characters Lainey and RJ that starts in Alaska and expands to Chicago. If you read her pucked series then you will so many familiar characters in this book.

It does seem like I am the minority here because everyone else loved it while I think it was cute. A way to spend a cozy night reading, but nothing memorable or something I would pick up again.

A Lie for a Lie is a delightful story between an awkward genius and a hockey player who just wants to be 'unknown' for a while. I loved the setting in Alaska; thats a unique setting and Hunting does a good job of making you feel a part of that setting. I also loved the meet-cute between Lainey and "RJ" because it is so something I could see happening. It was just one of those super embarrassing things that happen and it was really endearing.

The story has a slow burn feel to it because these two initially d

Rook (RJ) is a Chicago hockey player heading to Alaska for vacation to escape the puck bunnies and media attention. He is the handsome team captain and has a history of being a ladies' man, but that has become old.

So when he meets Lainey, a sweet girl heading to Alaska to work on her latest master's degree, he is not forthcoming with who he is. She does not recognize him and treats him like a man versus a celebrity. She is sheltered and awkward, but also funny and naturally beautiful. And he fi

I'm a big fan of the author's romantic comedies. While there are many funny moments in A Lie for a Lie, that's not what is most memorable for me. It's the feels that got me in this one. Yes, he's a chick magnet and he's earned his bad reputation. But, it's gotten kind of old not knowing who is just after his money and fame. Can you blame him for enjoying the attention of a beautiful woman who do

Another super cute story from Helena Hunting. I have missed being in her hockey world, and this was a great way to get back.

Lainey and RJ's story is full of attraction, dripping with lust - and halted by lies.

I didn't even read the blurb before I started reading this one - didn't need to lol. However, if you do read the blurb, you could have a pretty good guess at what one of the lies is. Or like me, you will guess some of it as you are reading along. However that did not take away anything f

What are the chances that two strangers meet on a flight and end up going to the same remote wilderness in Alaska? That’s what happened to Lainey and RJ.

Sheltered Lainey takes the opportunity to travel to Kodiak, Alaska to get away from her overbearing family (that she loves to death), and to prove her independence. Never in a million years did she think she’d find the love of her life.

RJ looks forward to the weeks he spends at his family’s cabin each year,

A Lie for a Lie is a fun, cute, and sexy romance. A Lie for a Lie may be one of my favourite Hunting novels. I’ve read most of her work and enjoyed her novels, but never loved them. A Lie for a Lie is definitely the exception.

RJ and Lainey’s personalities match, making it easy to picture them falling in love easily. The best way to describe Lainey is adorable. She is intelligent and confident. RJ is not an over the top alpha male, instead he is solid, confident in himself, and soft.<
