So I have been in such a massive book slump, a book slump that has me so behind on my Goodreads book challenge. Of course, Helena Hunting knows how to swoop in and destroy all my emotions and make me fall head over heels with her writing all over again. Not that I wasn't already, but this book slump has been killing me in the worst of ways. Lainey and Rookie h ...more

A Lie for a Lie is a fun and sexy second-chance contemporary romance. Rook is confident and a reformed player, and Lainey is somewhat of a sweet, nervous and naive type. They say opposites attract and that was definitely the case for this couple. I enjoyed the way they met and the setting of the story in the first half of the book. It was just the two of them and I really liked how their relationship developed. RJ was helpful and very ...more
I'm a big fan of the author's romantic comedies. While there are many funny moments in A Lie for a Lie, that's not what is most memorable for me. It's the feels that got me in this one. Yes, he's a chick magnet and he's earned his bad reputation. But, it's gotten kind of old not knowing who is just after his money and fame. Can you blame him for enjoying the attention of a beautiful w ...more

Wow, this book titillates the reader in all the right places! I tried putting Hunting’s latest offering down at daft o’clock but to no avail ‘cause it’s far, far too addictive. And although it’s a romantic comedy, the author’s take on a delicate subject gave the story such a sensitive touch it got me sniffling into my pillow more than once. Hunting’s gone back to ice hockey with this stand-alone spinoff from the highly popular Pucked S ...more
It does seem like I am the minority here because everyone else loved it while I think it was cute. A way to spend a cozy night reading, but nothing memorable or something I would pick up again.
Our characters were good and had great chemistry. However, as far as secrets go, I could tell what L ...more
It was beautifully executed on giving us Pucked fans what we wanted, our Rookie 🥰
We wanted His story because we knew he had to have one & Author Helena Hunting delivered it.
Rookie surprised me immensely. He left me presently satisfied & shocked on who he really is outside the hockey world.
Not going to lie, he is the total package & I totally digged it!
And Lainey; once she meets Rook, their chemistry ha ...more
A Lie for a Lie by Helena Hunting is such a good read I ended up reading it in one sitting as I couldn't put it down.
I loved watching RJ/Rook and Lainey's relationship unfold, they have amazing chemistry and from the first meeting I knew they belonged together. ❤
Helena Hunting never ceases to amaze me and I have become such a fan of her work in the past couple of months. It's safe to say that I love the Pucked Series and was super excited to see that there was a spinoff of the series. I didn't know that this story would be about Rook or Rookie as ...more
I picked up this book expecting to read a few chapters will I had some spare time. I figured I would put it down and continue with my day. I was wrong. I read this book in one sitting, which included me staying up half the night to finish it.
I was hooked before I even opened the book. The synopsis hooked me and I had to read it. And the books did not disappoint. From the first page, I was ...more
What are the chances that two strangers meet on a flight and end up going to the same remote wilderness in Alaska? That’s what happened to Lainey and RJ.
Sheltered Lainey takes the opportunity to travel to Kodiak, Alaska to get away from her overbearing family (that she loves to death), and to prove her independence. Never in a million years did she think she’d find the love of her life.
RJ looks forward to the weeks he spends at his family’s cabin each year, it’s the on ...more
RJ and his brother Kyle were getting together to fish in Alaska. This was something they did every year with their Father but since his passing the brothers made a point to continue the tradition especially this year for Kyle & his wife are expecting their first child and the brothers knew things would change. RJ/Rook and Lainey meet in such a meet-cute way and what starts the journey of a lifetime for them. What's a guy to do when everyone in the country knows who you are but one person and that one person sparks something inside of you that you can't wait to explore. The only logical thing to do is lie about your job f ...more
I was anxiously awaiting this book. Anything that Helena Hunting writes is an automatic buy for me. I read a lot of books but there are probably only a handful of authors that fall into that category for me. A Lie for a Lie was definitely worth the wait. I'd give it 10 stars, if I could.
Rook Bowman is the captain of the Chicago hockey team. He has had a rough year and plans to spend the off season at the family cabin in Kodiak, Alaska. On the last half of the trip, a beautiful woman literally fa ...more
I loved the Pucked series so when I heard there was a spin off series planned I was so excited and couldn’t wait to read.
RJ needs to escape the chaos of Chicago and being an NHL team captain; where better to go than Alaska? Imagine his delight when he meets Lainey and realises she has no idea who he is.
When their passionate interlude ends abruptly, neither expect to meet again since they neglected to swap contact information. However fa ...more

I haven’t read this book… I devoured it! The moment I found out that Rookie would get his own story, I couldn't control my excitement. But I never expected that I would be so flooded with emotions after this read! Although A Lie for a Lie still contains some of Helena Hunting's typical humor, it's also imbued with sensitivity and tenderness. This second chance romance w ...more
Rook isn’t just your normal guy, he’s the captain for an NHL team and he is one of the best players in the league. The press and the pressure are a lot, and everybody deserves a break, so he heads up to Alaska for some peace and quiet during the offseason. When a gorgeous woman, quite literally, falls into his lap and has no idea who he is, he is immediately drawn to her.

Alaska is the idyllic setting where we first meet Rook and Lainey. Seriously, an oversized human teddy bear to keep you warm and safe? Sign me up. It's a total meet-cute (HH fans will get what I mean here!), but as beautiful as things are when you're in a secluded bubble, things are not quite the same when you return to reality.
