A short following up on the queen trapped in darkness, that came up in the main series. It had interesting threads, though I'm not sure what any of it means. Probably setup for how the story of the Aima world will continue.

This novella is about the newest queen addition in this remarkable world. Helayna is a descendant of none other than the queen of the realm of the death, in Norse Mythology, Hel. Without her memories or powers, Helayna is stuck, alone and in a lot of pain. Everything seems lost in the darkness, until a helpful queen whispers to her in a dream and tells her to call her Blood. When Helayna does just that, she awakens Aima Blood that has been asleep for thousands of year in a place of true darkness

Strong beginning and an interesting setting, very different from the other books in the series. I'm a total sucker for Beauty and the Beast retellings so Dorr and Helayna were right up my alley. So much awwww. As usual with novellas, I wished it had been longer.

For the first time in years, I finally believe everything's going to be okay. I got the divorce decree 10/29 to put one nightmare away and Biden/Harris win to take care of the other.

Pence's damned fly is buzzing around here driving me nuts. I need one of those Biden Harris fly swatters STAT.

Actual rating of 2.5 stars since this was pretty decent for a novella. After reading an anthology that had some of the worst stories ever, I think it's made me have a much more solid understanding to rate novellas from now on. Queen Takes Darkness made use of the space that it had to give a story that had a beginning, middle and an end.

Sweet Short Novella
This is another short story (novella) from the Their Vampire Queen series. We read about Helayna who is trapped in the dark, slowly being consumed. She has forgotten who she is and where she came from. A being wants her to use her power as an Aima Queen to break free of her confines to destroy her prison. Helayna knows this is a bad idea, somehow. Trusting the voice of a Queen who calls to her in the darkness, she reaches for her Blood for the first time and calls forth beings ...more

I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. It has been great to get back into another Queen book. Helayna is a new character with a very intriguing set of blood. Amia but not lol. Although it was short, I can so see her becoming a major player if her character continues to develop. You can see another side to the problems caused by the lack of queens and it is interesting to have a darker perspective on a series I have come to love. The blood were an amazing addition to the series a

I am in love with the Darkness this story brings!
Joely gives us a glimpse into another world of the Aima Queens and in this one darkness is more than just skin deep.
Helaynas blood have been asleep for thousands of years and never expect to have a queen call them, let alone call on them in a place of such darkness! But they will do whatever necessary to serve and protect their Queen, even if that means never getting to see the sun glow upon her skin.

This was a short story to reveal to the reader Helayna and where she was kidnapped to. As usual, Burkhardt has done enormous research on Norse mythology to give us a well rounded mini epic with emotional punch. Helayna was stuck in darkness and until she heard from Queen Shara, she wasn't sure what to do. We discover she has been tricked by Loki, and hidden away to prevent her powers from changing the world. The dark blood she attracts think they are not worthy of her, but after pure suspense, t

I want more! Could not get enough.
I really love Old Norse mythology and so I was pleasantly surprised when I read this short story. I loved everything about this book and would love for it to become a full length novel.
The research for this short story would of been immense and it was all factually correct which I loved about this book as well. There is nothing worse than an author writing about something you love and their have the wrong facts.

Awesome short
I love Hela, I wish I could read more about her. And I cant wait to read about what you have in store for her. I wanna know about the deal with her hair, her family and goddess. It's all so good and I know she has more to tell. I also want to know more about her special Blood. They intrigued me more than the rest, beside Mehen of course.
Spoiler
I know she going to be on the Triune seat with Shara, I'm dying to read about the friendship the could have and the mysterious 3rd... I have ...more

Another fun novella!
I was most curious about this queen when we saw her in one of the Queen Takes books with Shara. I was interested to see how she would call her Blood to her and how she would free herself from Jormungandr. I’ve always been fascinated with ancient mythology from different cultures but Norse and Eqyptian has always been my favorites. I must say that I have impressed with the author and her ability to weave the different dieties and culture into 1 massive story. You can tell that ...more

JSB takes us back to the world of the Aima, and I couldn't be more thrilled!
This story is about Helayna, whom we meet in Queen Takes Triune. Here, she is trapped in endless darkness and the coils of the Midgard Serpent, Jormungandr.
I loved Helayna and her three Blood! It's so gratifying to see JSB expand this world, because it's one of my favorites out there. Reading about a new Queen with different powers and a different destiny is so exciting.
Long live the true Queen, Joely Sue Burkhart!

Queen takes darkness
Helayna can't remember her life before the pain and darkness. She doesn't know the female in her dream , but listens when she yells for her to call her blood. What she calls are dark creatures sleeping for thousands of years. They can't believe that she will touch them let alone keep them as her blood, but first they must free her from a monster so enormous it's spanning a world.

Woweweeee a fantastic new Vampire Queen of Nordic descent! And three dark far blood!
We hear of this new queen’s plight in the last Shara Isador Book... as soon as I read of her imprisonment I knew I had to read it.
It’s a short and steamy read that just wasn’t long enough... but what joely su burkhart Book is long enough??? 🤣🤣They are all so great and this story follows that wonderful trend. I cannot wait to read more from this queen, the story opens up a whole new world of vampire queens and t ...more

Another amazing book by Joely Sue Burkhart that sucks you in and won’t release you until you get to the end of the story where you are left wanting and needing more!
I absolutely loved Queen Takes Darkness!

I love this world that Ms. Burkhart has built and am anxious to read the stories of every ancillary character she comes up with. This episode twists in Norse mythology to introduce us to another Queen who has been kidnapped by Loki. She calls out to be rescued by....Gargoyles!! This is a super fast read, AND THAT is the problem. I have been reeled in and have so many questions and want to read so much more of this Queen and her blood and her brother and how and why and... lets face it, this was

I loved this introduction to a new Aima Queen! Helayna has had a difficult time of things due to a certain trickster god, and is rescued by her blood. I love how vulnerable they all are until Helayna discovers who she is and what she needs to do. This is an interesting and intriguing story that whets your appetite for more and the only issue I had was that it was much too short and I hope that it is continued later on.

After the glimpse
We got a glimpse in Shara's story (where Share meets the Wolf King) about the Wolf King's missing twin sister. This is Helayna's story where she hears Share tell her to call her blood to her to save herself. This is the spin-off from Shara's story. Helayna responds and calls her blood and her Darkness answers. This queen is awesome. She holds so much power that I don't want to reveal given it is a short story. Very good. ...more

A start to new characters ?
I'm not really happy with this book . I mean the premise was interesting the characters awesome . I just couldn't understand the point of this book . That's why I thought that maybe it's point is to set up new characters , situations and storyline for us fans of the Queen books . Ok. I'm game . Bring it ! This book was just too short to get excited about , but that won't stop me from reading future installments ! ...more

Once I started I couldn’t put it down!! Such a great read and loved the new characters introduced in this new story in their vampire queen world!! Can’t wait to read more about them and their journey... I do wish it was a longer book I guess this could be considered a novella and it was so good that I just wanted to keep reading! Lol

I feel like this is going to sound blasphemous but I think I love Helayna more than Shara. *shocked* I didnt ever expect to love a Queen even more than Shara but JS got me with this one. I'm still trying to mentally process this change. I need more of Helayna and her Blood. Like really honestly need more.

Wow, I loved this story just as much as Shara’s ! It was emotion and so descriptive, it was really well written. Loved that the blood and baddy were totally different and unique to this story and that it didn’t include to much of sharas. I only wish it was longer lol ! I would definitely recommend you getting this book if you like the RH genre and have liked joely’s vampire queen series !

Helayna is very feisty and determined. Her blood seem powerful. I’m very intrigued with these characters, and how the mythology mentioned will come into play.
I’m always amazed at how Joely can pack an entire book into a novella and it never feels rushed.
This is my honest, voluntary review; I received an arc from the author.

Masterfully beautiful
Mmm, loved this so much! I didn't want it to end, Helayna was trapped but she was freed so masterfully, her power immense and flowing. Her men strong and filled with darkness and the hearts filled with wonder and love. Could not have asked for more, except time. I'm looking forward to knowing more. So much more! ...more

Another world, one of darkness, one so lonely and painful. Her blood answered her call and saved so much more than themselves. Now free flowing waters and new forms, this new queen and her blood shall be a strong force. I can't wait to read more of their story and see just what she can offer to the triune as well! In love with this story and it's just the beginning!
