What She Did is Alex Kane's second novel and whilst it is targeted at the thriller market I feel it's very close to crossing into the women's fiction/chick lit genre, so if you enjoy both this should fit you to a T. It centres around three strong women, Beth, Lydia and Victoria, who each have troubled pasts they are desperate to escape from. Beth is trying to escape the tragedy surrounding her ex-boyfriend's death, Victoria is in an increasingly loveless marriage with husband Greg. When she stum ...more

5☆ A Chilling, Highly Compelling Psychological Thriller, I Couldn't Put Down!

What She Did is a chilling, psychological thriller that got under my skin and I loved it!!

This is my second book I have read by Alex Kane and her books keep getting better and better!

This is a story of three very different women. All hurt in their past, yet things spiral as the story weaves between them, from past to present and things start to become dark and a lil sinister!

There are some thriller books which follow the norm beginning, mid, and an explosive end. Then there are those like this book which had me scrambling all over the pages, trying to get to the truth. How did I miss the clues? How did the author Alex Kane pull the wool over my eyes? The book was so deliciously cunning!!

Alex Kane had crafted her plot so wickedly that I had to go back and re-read a few scenes. The chapters were melded so well that it had me searching minutely for the seam to see the

From the opening of the book it drew me straight in. It promised something very dark and boy did the author deliver.

The story alternates between three women flicking between past and present. The author skilfully plays with her readers minds, feeding us bits of information and glimpses of what is to come but not just quite what and I sure was not ready for how it all comes together at the end.

Beth and Victoria are women that due to their past have issues in their present life. They are both tryi
What a prologue!!!!!! I love a good prologue to kick off a psychological thriller and Ms Kane has written one that ticks that box big style!! And rereading it after finishing the book….oh my…..

What She Did is a tale of toxic relationships. This theme bubbles away all the way through, showing how friendships and relationships can start off so well but rapidly turn sour with the alpha in the pair taking control. I found it unnerving and thought-provoking; I had a think about my relationships (than

Alex Kane is a new author to me, so I didn’t have any idea what to expect. I am very happy to have been given the chance by NetGalley to discover a fantastic author. It’s difficult to describe the story without giving too much away but it’s an excellent suspense thriller with a great plot. The last few chapters are amazing and so well written. At first I didn’t enjoy how the chapters were jumping between characters and past & present, but as the story unfolded it actually worked really well. ...more

So, that prologue… Wham! What a fabulously powerful opening to draw you in to this intriguingly dark psychological thriller. Told from the points of view of Beth, Victoria and Lydia, and alternating between past and present, What She Did explores the lives of these three women, looking at the sensitive subjects of domestic abuse and misogyny, as well as betrayal when a person is at their most vulnerable, but gives us a clever slant on who really has control in their relationships. With each chap ...more

2.5 rounded up

This took way too long to get to the point and I grew frustrated and confused along the way.

The thing is that the writing is decent as are the characters. The suspense exists almost from the start and doesn’t wane (at least for me). There is something that niggled in me that things weren’t as they seemed but I wasn’t sure why.

The reveal has me a bit muddled in my feelings on this one. I have read something with a similar reveal recently and that is tainting this a bit (which I kn

What She Did by Alex Kane is a gripping, psychological thriller about three women, Beth, Victoria and Lydia…

Beth, escapes from an abusive relationship and trying to make a new life. Victoria believes her husband is cheating on her and turns to her old friend, Lydia, to find out if he is.

I have to admit to getting a little confused at times by the many twists and turns in the story, it was a bit hard to keep up. But as the story progresses, they stories all link and the final gasp inducing twist

Alex Kane's third novel is a dark psychological thriller, packed with a flourish of twists and turns both high and low, the opening scene really will grab your attention, and as for the rest of the book there will be moments that will really stop you in your tracks because you just won't see them coming!

It is told from 3 women's lives (Beth, Victoria and Lydia's) between past and present point of views, which sometimes I found a little overwhelming to try to keep up but then when all the lives

I absolutely LOVED this book. Based around three women Beth, Lydia and Victoria all of whom have their own pasts and all of them trying to move on with their life. I didn’t favour one character over another and at first they are all very separate as you learn about each of their lives.

Before long their stories intertwine and slowly things begin to emerge. As the book progresses I found myself more and more drawn into the story and I ended up reading the last three quarters of the book in one sit

WOW! Full of twists with an ending you will never see coming!!!

They say that best friends can go long periods of time without talking or seeing each other and never question the friendship. The friends just pick up where they left off like no time has passed. This can be said for Lydia and Victoria. They met while Victoria was at her lowest and the two developed a very intense bond but when victoria decides to choose her now husband Greg over the friendship, the two part ways until four years la

What She Did is a tense psychological thriller that gripped me from the very first chapter. It's a dark, disturbing and honest portrayal of mysogony, domestic violence and that women are often found struggling in a world dominated by men.

This book features three very strong women. All with flaws, insecurities and all very relatable. Beth is fleeing from an abusive past while trying to build a new life for herself.  I really engaged with Beth. I liked her as a character. We then have Victoria who

Oh wow!! Alex Kane is a completely new writer to me, but when I saw that What She Did was set in my hometown of Glasgow I just jumped at the chance to read it, and boy am I happy that I did!! Alternating between three women, Beth, Victoria and Lydia, What She Did is a suspenseful tale of abuse, betrayal, fear and friendships.

Alex Kane presents a storyline carved out so intricately with a stream of twists and turns. They just keep coming. The eyes tend to deceive in this one. I mean, really decei
Jul 17, 2019 rated it it was amazing first book by this author and won’t be my last.

This book kept me turning the pages. I had my suspicions but I was not sure until the reveal.
I did feel sorry for Matt, he did love her but she must have been very hard to live with. You only get to see a little bit of what his life was like with her after he left and they had that conversation. He felt so guilty and took to the bottle. My heart did break for him. He was sorry for what he did, he life was in ruins but he didn’t deserve wh

As the blurb says above this story focuses on three women. Beth, Victoria and Lydia all different ladies, different lives… Or are they? All have had their fair share or trouble with men.
The story flicks between the past and the present for each character throughout but this is clearly stated at the start of each chapter so there is no confusion. With the ladies come the men ofcourse… Greg and Lawrence. Now I must say Lawrences character what a horrible excuse for a man, one of those characters t

I was into it from the start!
All along wondering 'who did what?'

Great psychological thriller, well written, many twists, well developed characters and story. Good from start to finish!

I felt so many emotions, I was sad, anxious, angry... and wanted to hurt those awful men abusing their women, trying (succeeding) to control them, make them miserable and make them feel sorry and apologize ?!

When you think you have found the right partner and he's either abusive or cheating, or both...

New to me author , new book that i won’t forget very soon for sure as I really didn’t see the end coming.
Going back and forward ,between the three women, we are taken in their present life and difficult past with each chapter. I must admit that I was a bit confused because I rarely read books with 3 different POV and the chapters told in their past or present.
You know you’ve read a great book when the author manages to leave you speechless with the twists and turns that you just couldn’t see,

Best friend and worst enemy.
I started this book as soon as I finished 'No Looking Back' As I finished that book I knew right away I needed to read more by this author.
A great writing style and a story that you are drawn into. A story that keeps you wanting to read on. There were parts of the book I wasn't keen on and parts of the book that I loved and needed to keep going with it.
Another good read overall and I look forward to reading more.

it's told from alternating points of view, going back

A really good read that had me hooked from the first few chapters.
The book alternates chapters between three characters - Beth, Lydia and Victoria.
We find out about their lives in the past and also the present and how their lives are all linked.
It was a little confusing remembering who was who when it chopped and changed so much, but as the book went on, it all came together.
We hear about the men who have been in their lives and learn the girls have all had a difficult past.
I can’t say too

I'm sad to say, I just couldn't get on with this book, it kept flipping backward and forwards between the years and characters making it very muddled to me. I didn't know if I was reading about Beth, Victoria or Lydia, it became very confusing. I did keep trying and read it till halfway through but frustration made me stop. It's a shame because her first book was outstanding.

Victoria thinks she has married the perfect man in Greg but she finds to her marriage unfolding he is a control freak.

Loved this book from first page till last.. It just had me gripped from the start.unlike some books it wasn't too busy with lots of different characters. With just a few characters it was easy to follow. I do hope there is a new book out very soon.
brilliant book from start to finish. It was really well written and had me engrossed from the first page. I liked how each chapter was about the characters which helped get to know them. full of twists and a great ending Sylvia Kerslake PA

If you like a good thriller, then What She Did by Alex Kane is definitely one to read. I will definitely be keeping my eye out for more books by this author.
