Chicken Little investigates

Sir Isaac Newton and Chicken Little did the same thing. Chicken Little would have figured it out if she had investigated. In this version, she does, and in the process saves herself and her friends from Foxy Woxy.

This is another great STEM book that introduces physics in a simple yet fun way.  An acorn falls on Chicken Little's head and this leads to figuring out what fell by comparing it to other objects.  The sound that falling objects make is different from character to character, so off to the king to have him make a final declaration.  They are adventures for Chicken Little and the whole gang including Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey, and Turkey Lurkey.  There is deception awaiting them from Foxy Woxy, but the other animals use their new information in defeating him.

The illustrations in this book depict the characters and scenes nicely.  I also like how the words on each page are not just text on a page, the words feel interactive.  I feel like this book will spur the imagination of any child and perhaps have them start thinking more about STEM areas without even realizing it.

We give this book 5 paws up.

I love this author's books and the story of Chicken Little and their friends was adorable and engaging with wonderful illustrations on each page.

The sky is falling!! Or at least that what Chicken Little feels when an acorn falls and causes a bump on their head. Chicken Little investigates with their friend Henny Penny other items when they fall what does happen. On the adventure and finding items to do their experiement, Chicken Little and Henny Penny also run into other friends to bring them into the investigations as well and the end result of them wanting to go to the King to find out what to call it?

Wonderful story, love the characters and this book can be enjoyed by all ages which is what I love. Just wonderful!

A lovely story aimed at children explaining how gravity works through fun little experiments the animals do. I loved the story and illustrations.

This is a super cute twist on the beloved Chicken Little tale, and one that will touch curious investigators' hearts.

Chicken Little is hit on the head by a falling nut, and what a strange thing that is to have happen! Especially since she notices that other things fall down and hit the ground, too. Deciding she needs to share her discovery with the king, she heads off and runs into each of her friends along the way. While sharing her discovery, each one has a different name for it. And when they meet Foxy Woxy, the discovery gets good use.

In this version, Chicken Little goes a step further than before and realizes that items fall down. This first introduction to gravity is perfect for young listeners. Not only is the tale funny and sweet, but the idea of gravity is kept at just that—the word never being used. Instead, the animals have their own names for it, ones which are sure to draw some giggles. The author does a lovely job at rounding it together in a clever way to escape Foxy Woxy. Yep, even this guarantees snorts and laughs. And the ending...well, that's humorous too.

The illustrations and the text play around each other, making it a read--aloud delight. The illustrations are done with love and are sure to invite young listeners to gaze through the pages on their own. The text is a little heavy for the youngest, but those about to head off to school will have no problem understanding the concept.

Summed up, this is a cute and giggle worthy way to introduce young listeners to an important science theme.

I received an ARC and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to leave my honest thoughts.

Chicken Little Investigates is the first book in the Science Folktales series by Lois Wickstrom. It is a cute children’s fantasy story- a reimagining of the classic fairytale, Chicken Little (aka- Henny Penny) with plenty of fun and adventure along the way.
The story has humour, mystery, friendship, investigation, and a little drama to keep things interesting. It introduces children to the concept of gravity but doesn’t go into it or explain any further though, keeping things light and fairytale-esque.
I wish the internal quality of the illustrations matched the quality of the ‘new’ cover picture- as the internal illustrations are a little naïve/simplistic, and ‘bland’. They just don’t grab and hold your attention like the cover image does, and I was left feeling a little let down because of it.

The Science Folktales Series contains (so far):
-Chicken Little (Book #1)
-Huff…Puff…Grind! The Three Little Pigs Get Smart (Book #2)
-Fee, Fi, Fo, Grow! The Real Magic of the Beans (Book #3)
-Goldilocks and the Six Simple Machines (Book #4)
-Little Red, the Detective (Book #5)
-Just One More Egg (Book #6)
-The Dwarves’ Dilemma (Book #7)
-Saving the Gingerbread House (Book #8)

So, as you can see, there’s lots to explore in this series- plenty of adventures to take, and things to learn along the way.
Looking forward to more from Ms. Wickstrom.
Happy reading…

Chicken Little Investigates is such a cute book! I got this for my 7 year old, but honestly I think it would be great for children younger than her. Chicken Little and Henny Penny are walking along enjoying the weather when something falls on Chicken Little's head! Ouch! She thinks that the sky is falling so she and Penny investigate. After a few experiments with different items they come up with something, but they don't know what to call it. They decide to go and ask the King with big feet what he thinks. On the way to the King Chicken Little and Henny Penny run into a few friends. The five of them set off to talk to they king about their discovery, when a fox tricks them saying he knows a short cut. The friends think quick and start dropping things on his head! Splat, Flop, Clatter, Jangle, and plop plop plop goes all the items onto his head! Ouch! Triple ouch! While bumps grow on the foxes' head the friends all escape! But they still don't know what to call their discovery! So they meet with the king. The Kind tries out their experiment before deciding what it will be called.... read the book to find out what he decides!!! It really is such a cute book. I think kids would love to try out what the friends did. See what name they think it should be called!! I love everything I have read from this author so far. Her children's books are cute, but kids also learn while reading them. I would recommend this for kids under age 10.

Chicken Little Investigates (Science Folktales) by Lois Wickstrom

Chicken Little Investigates (Science Folktales) is a cute children’s book about discovering new sounds and investigating how/ what makes a certain noise. Chicken and her friend Henny Penny are out and about one day when all of a sudden something falls and lands on chickens head causing s bump. These to go on a adventure to the palace to see the king for a name of this discovery. Along the way they meet other friends who also have things that make a certain noise. Together they continue on the palace to see the King. I read this to my five year old son and he loved it so much we read it several times. I highly recommend this book to find out what happens next especially if you have younger children/grandchildren/nieces/nephews around four to six years old or so. My son and I love this author and have read several of her books. We can’t wait to see what incredible story she brings us next.

Lois Wickstrom has created a fun fractured tale based on Chicken Little. In this tale, Chicken little isn’t so naïve, and decides to investigate about “the sky falling”. Chicken Little tests her theory that it was really an acorn that fell and bumped her head. When she and her friends have come to a conclusion that something DID fall and hit her head, they cannot decided what to call this “thing” they discovered. They quickly decide the king is the best person to ask for help! On their trip, others try to help them and then join their efforts to name the discovery. Soon a whole crowd joins Little Chicken on her trip to see the king. But a hungry cunning fox might just stop the friends from visiting the king for help. How will they escape? Will the king help name their discovery? What do you think Chicken Little should call it when something drops from the sky? To find out what the King calls object dropping, read Chicken Little Investigates!

Chicken Little and his friend Henny Penny are walking along when something falls on his head. At first they are convinced that the sky is falling so Chicken Little and Henny Penny decide to investigate. As they walk together, they run into their friends and each of them help Chicken Little investigate. As the friends make their way to the King to discuss their discovery and come up with a name they run into Foxy Woxy. Their discovery helps them to outwit Foxy Woxy and escape.

This is a unique twist on the Chicken Little story where the only thing that stays the same are the cute names. In this version children are introduced to the law of physics in a simple, easy-to-learn, and fun way. This story is fun, easy to read, and entertaining. It is beautifully illustrated, which really helps to bring the story to life as it pops off the pages. A fun read for children of all ages.

Detective Little

This book is our normal Chicken Little with a bit of a fracture. It is the same in fun and smiles and laughter. The names ate the same. That's where the same ends. The story is unique and embracing. The illustrations and printed words are crazy and terrific. I highly recommend this book because of the story and how easy it will become will become a favorite book.
Chicken Little was walking under a tree and an acorn fell on his head and he told his companion that the sky is falling. They went back to the spot and did an experiment. What was the experiment? Wouldn't you like to know. The best way to find out is reading. One of the best ways to solve a puzzle. Enjoy!!!

We all remember the story of Chicken Little from our childhood. This is a story that follows the same pattern but has a bit of a different take. Chicken Little gets hit in the head by a fallen acorn. Once he investigates what hit him, he shares his news with several of his friends. They all test out the theory with something of thier own idea. Together they head to see the King to find a name for their theory. On they way, they meet up with a fiesty old fox who tricks them into coming to his house to be a bit to heat. Luckily for them, they are ingenious and use their clever brains to outsmart the fox and get to the King's palace. This is a cute story, with great illustrations to make a good read aloud for small children!

Almost everyone knows the story of Chicken Little in one way or another. “The sky is falling! The sky is falling!” is probably the most famous part of the story. But, what happens when Chicken Little decides to experiment with things to see if the sky is falling or if something else fell instead?

Chicken Little Investigates is a cute little twist in a classic tale. Follow Chicken Little, Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey, and Turkey Lurkey as they learn how different things fall to the ground and travel to ask the King what it’s called when something falls. Keep an eye out though, because not everyone is there to help them learn.

Thank goodness the friends are paying attention during their experiments and are able to use what they’ve learned to escape Foxy Woxy!

This is a cute, fun story with changes in font based on the sounds of words and other fun pieces of information. It’s a cute way to introduce gravity in a way that also introduces a classic story.

Chicken Little Investigates (Science Folktales) by Lois Wickstrom. I have read several books by this author because I have a 5 and 9 year old nephew. They have loved every one I have bought them. This is the story of Chicken little and her friend Henny Penny. Chicken Little thinks the sky is falling because a acorn fell and hit her on the head. Thinking she needs to tell the King, she and Henny Penny set off to tell him. On the way they do experiments to try and find another reason for the thing to hit her on the head. Along the way they meet other friends and discover what gravity is along with the funny name they call it. This is the perfect book for gifts because they are not only precious they are teaching a lesson. Loved it so much!

A twist on a tale, this book using the same characters in Chicken Little. This time the little chicken investigates and comes up with a name for the discovery of something falling down to the ground. Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey and Turkey Lurkey came up with different names. They all outsmarted Foxy Woxy, who'd lured them into his den. Then they all went to the King to name their discovery. He was wise and did his own experiment and came up with his own name. This is a cute book with lovely illustrations by Francie Mion. I think this is a great modern take on 'the sky is falling' original classic and one young children are sure to enjoy.

So I'm sure we have all heard this story. We love the rhymes with the names of each character. But this author took this story so much further! She turned this rhyming story into a Science Investigation. WOW! She did a fantastic job with sounds, adventure and investigating. I could not wait for my grandchildren to hear this version of Chicken Little. We had so much fun dropping things as well as going for a walk to find some of the things the characters had found. What an adventure we had. This author has become one of my favorites, as she has fresh ideas and makes reading so much more fun for children as well as adults. Fantastic Story!

As a parent, I love reading Lois Wickstrom books! I was excited to introduce Chicken Little Investigates to my children. My kids have been watching the movie Chicken Little and I was looking forward to seeing this author’s spin. I liked how words like “falling” or “fell” were printed in a downward motion and some important words in bold. My daughter was able to pick up on cues and help read the book with me which is always a great feeling. When I asked her if she liked the book she said “I didn’t really think it was good, I thought it was the goodest!” So I would say Chicken Little Investigates is another hit by Lois Wickstrom!

My kiddos and I always love Lois Wickstrom’s books, but this one was special for the little ones. They enjoy the original Chicken Little, so this new spin on it reeled them in. Instead of just panicking and making wild assumptions, they begin to investigate to see the cause of what is happening. It is a cute story but also teaches a great lesson about not jumping to conclusions. We really love the science side of this story, and the illustrations are wonderfully done! I recommend this one if you have some littles of your own. It really encourages them to look at things from a different (and fun) scientific perspective!

With a twist on the classic Chicken Little tale, Chicken Little Investigates introduces kids to the world of science and learning has never been as fun. It is a bright and colourful story with humour that makes you laugh.
Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, Goosey Loosey and Turkey Lurkey all make an appearance and try to outsmart the wily Foxy Woxy.
With lovely illustrations by Francie Mion you can’t go wrong as the story draws in readers and opens their little minds.
Is the sky falling? Well you will have to read it to find out.

"The sky is falling!"

Most of us are familiar with this popular saying by Chicken Little. This great little STEM focused book follows up on that saying with a physics lesson that also includes Turkey Lurky, Henny Penny, Ducky Lucky, and Goosey Loosey. Foxy Woxy will also make an appearance but we all know how sly those foxes can be!

The illustrations are great in this book as well. The words appear to be interactive on the page which makes this one even more fun!

Add this to the list to share with a youngster in your life!

I really enjoy these children’s story with a science twist – I think they are a great way to introduce young children to simple science investigations. I think this one is definitely my favourite – it was a wonderful introduction to gravity! There are so many talking points in this book from things falling, what gravity it to the sounds that things make when they fall. Again this story is beautifully illustrated and is absolutely bound to capture the attention of young children. The story is easy to follow and not too long that children will lose interest.

I really enjoyed Chicken Little Investigates by Lois Wickstrom. Chicken was one of my favorite books as a child and it was such fun sharing this retelling with my children. When Chicken Little gets hit on the head with an acorn she thinks the sky is falling until she and her friends investigate. I really enjoy how this story encourages young readers to investigate and do experiments to figure things out. Once again the writing is witty and cute. The illustrations are fabulous as always. My boys gave this one 5 stars and I fully agree!

Chicken Little Investigates is a cute children’s story by Lois Wickstrom and illustrated by Francie Mion. My daughter thought this book was funny and she learned something too. She is 2.5 and she asked a lot of questions and it opened up talk of gravity and the different sounds that things make when they fall. She also loved the pictures and the part with the Fox (her words!) Overall it was a cute, short read. I liked that it was something familiar with something new. It was engaging enough that my daughter paid attention!

I read Chicken Little Investigates to my 7 year old. We both enjoyed the book. He laughed at the names and said they were silly. He guessed the king's final answer. The pictures are colorful and unique style- almost like a sketch colored with water colors. I liked that the sounds had a different font, to stand out. It was a cute book overall. I always enjoy this author. When asked if he thought his friends would like the book, he said maybe and they would probably laugh and the characters names.

Chicken Little Investigates
By: Lois Wickstrom

This is such a great version of the story of Chicken Little. We all know the story of Chicken Little where he thinks the sky is falling and panics. However, in this version Chicken Little gets hit in the head and uses his brains and his knowledge of science. When Chicken Little gets hit in the head he does several experiments and the scientific process to discover what it is that hit him in the head. I truly loved this retelling of the story and know that it would be a great addition to any child’s book collection or classroom library!

This book was really cute. It gives a great lesson for kids and shows how important and helpful friendship can be. Chicken Little is also teaching her friends about gravity without even knowing what it's called. While they are learning about something new they are also learning that they are free to be creative and have different opinions about the same thing and none of them are wrong. The value of friendship, creativity, and lessons is prominent in this book.

Really a darling retelling of the folk tale "Chicken Little." Attractive illustrations, great use of onomatopoeia and clever twist to the original story.

Younger children will delight in "what happens next." At the same time, older children could experiment with the gravity experiments and see, if they were king, what they would call the stuff falling from the sky.

Engaging tale all the way around.

Lois Wickstrom has done it again. Chicken Little investigates is a very cute tale. Chicken Little and his friends decide to investigate items falling and the sound they make. As they make their way to see the King, they pick up more friends with different sounding items. All that they want is for the king to name the sound for them. If you love cute children’s book, then this is the book for you.

This is such a fantastic read with great illustrations to further enhance the wonderfully written story from this very talented author. While the character names are the same as the original chicken little story, this wonderful telling takes a different, far more scientific look at chicken little at first thinking the sky is falling. I highly recommend giving this a read! I am sure it will become a favourite.

Cute! This book is a great learning tool for children. It shows how one single action, such as dropping something, can have many different descriptive words. The friends all have fun name, and set off on an adventure to the castle to speak with the king to ask what they should call the phenomenon of something falling. All of the characters, I think, would catch kid’s attention and the way the wording is written give the eyes something different to look at.
