First a mysterious shamrock appears on Miss Wink's front door. Then Kate and Mickey find the sign on their new clubhouse: "The Green Shamrock Gang Was Here." Something very strange is going on in Springvale - a real challenge for the Dixon twins' talents. Mickey Dixon wants to be a sleuth like Sherlock Holmes when she grows up. Kate hopes to be a famous scientist. Together, they make a great detective team. But this case is different from any of their other adventures and it takes both twins' skills to solve the mystery. This is a fun, but somewhat strange book about a missing kitten and a vandal and thief who leaves a note and promises to pay the money back. The St. Patrick's Day theme is what drew us to the story and we enjoyed the tale, but it seemed a bit odd.

The solution to the story was satisfactory, and it appears that the girls made a nice new friend. I wish that it showed a bit more how the young vandal would fix and clean up the mess he made, though.

I like this book because Mickey and Kate are trying to solve a mystery, and did you know there were two mysteries in this book? They need to find who stole their money and who stole the cat, and [spoiler alert] it was the same person, and he used the money to get the cat food. And he said “I promise to pay it back.” And they kept saying “promise, promise, promise.”

Cute chapter book for young readers with a St. Patrick's Day theme.

Emily (6 1/2 years): Read it because it's a mystery. It's really good. I liked everything!
