From New York Times and multiple USA Today bestselling author Jamie Thornton, read Book 3 in the dark and mysterious worlds of the Doormakers. For fans of Sarah J Maas, Jeff Wheeler, and Rachel E. Carter.
The Tower of Shadows has fallen.
In order to survive her death prediction, Maella might have just broken all the portals across the three worlds. Maella's best friend, Claritsa, has been kidnapped to a different world and Maella's father is still missing. Only Sethlo and the other torchlighters are by her side, but now that the Tower of Shadows has fallen (and all the licatherin gone along with it), they will all soon suffer the effects of krokosod the flesh-death that results from licatherin withdrawal.
Somewhere inside the Library of Souls are the answers Maella needs to save her family, her best friend, and all the worlds. But with both General Foster's Sechnel and Doormaker Tain's Hestroth searching for Maella, and krokosod nipping at their heels, will she find the answers in time?

I'm a voracious reader in many genres. I do sometimes judge a book by its cover art. Life is too short to spend time reading or reviewing bad books so you'll see my library, ratings, and reviews represent books I believe are worth sharing.

Maella has come a long way from the frightened little girl of the first book. She has been through physically hard times, working as a slave, hungry and now addicted to licatherin. She has had friends and foes die in front of her, her family is worlds away and her best friend, Claritsa, has been abducted by Doormaker Tain’s people. At the same time, Maella has grown stronger and more confident. She has a much better understanding of her Doormaker powers, and is discovering the history that her family tried so hard to hide. Although Claritsa is no longer with her, Sethlo remains. Maella has made some firm friends with the Torchlighters amongst whom she had worked the perilous pipes on the Tower of Shadows. At the end of the last book, Maella brought down the Tower of Shadows, and now she and her friends are escaping the rubble, along with the traumatised little Klylup boy they rescued (now reverted to human form). Following Junle’s Doormaker pattern, and clasping her family Pattern Book, Maella leads them to the Library of Souls wagon. She throws open the doors, and sees … the inside of a wagon. The doors have ceased to hum, and Maella’s powers seem to have broken with the Tower and the Klylup curse. Maella desperately wants to find Claritsa and her father, but first she and her friends have to get far from the disintegrating Tower of Shadows, across the Forsi desert, and to the possible safety of the city of Jillow City – before the deathly cold-turkey of the krokosod hits them, as the remaining licatherin disappears from their blood. They manage to negotiate with Veda Loor, the Master Librarian in charge of the Library of Souls wagon, exchanging their labour and protection of the wagon and its contents for safe passage. But first, “There is a basin in the far corner. Do not splash. Now GO WASH YOUR HANDS!” Veda Loor is yet another amazing character in this series. She is old, wise, and cares passionately about her work and the books and patterns in her wagon. Beneath her gruff exterior and frequent cane swipes, she has a heart of gold. Despite having been initially forced into helping them, she gives Maella and the Torchlighters all the support they need – provided they WASH THEIR HANDS. The end of the book comes far too quickly: “Maella wanted to hate them. But somehow, she understood. It was so easy to hate. It was so easy to blame. Life felt better that way—to blame someone else for the problems you had caused yourself.” The action is so fast-paced, and the story so absorbing, that the 333 pages fly by, and the end just creeps up on you – then slams you in the face. After the shock, I finally realised there is another book to come – so all is not yet lost (apart from my peace of mind – I NEED that next book!). I recommend this series very highly – to all fantasy fans – and indeed to all who are not fantasy fans yet, but definitely could be after these books. This book was good. There was a little romance, plenty of drama, lots of suspense. It surprised me how much time has happened since the series began. Maella is really starting to mature into the person she's going to be. She's starting to take control in situations, for good or bad.
There were some other things I very much liked about the story, like how licatherin dependence and addiction was further explored. The torchlighters were fantastic, and I loved how their regard for each other was set off against the behavior of many people in the city.
I'm accustomed to the books in this series ending with cliffhangers, so that didn't surprise me, but somehow this book left me feeling a little unsatisfied. It seemed like there wasn't so much accomplished this time around. In addition, I missed Claritsa quite a lot. She's such a great character, and she counteracts a lot of the unpleasant people in Maella's worlds. I think I can understand some of the purpose behind her absence story-wise, but I still missed her.
Still, even if there were a few things I would have liked to have had explained or to have had different, it was still a good book in a strong series and I did enjoy it. I'm looking forward to seeing where things go from here.
I loved the story very much, it was amazing, the adventures in the dessert and the looming dangers and protection of her best friends, the torchlighters. But danger is looming around every corner, now there is no licatherin anymore and everyone fights to get some in their hands.
They reach the city were the Library of souls is, but they are not safe there when people of this city know that the Tower of Shadows is no more and no more licatherin is coming. Addiction run the minds of the people instead of common sense.
The best time I had was when they were climbing the stacks in the Library, I would have loved to see it for myself, but the words took you literally in this world of books. It was a wonderful world of books, but Maella is only interested to find information about her family and the one door.
All the while she also thinks of her best friend Claritsa, how best she can save her. I love that the word Thrae is Earth spelled backwards. There is also a bit of romance and a lot of dangers throughout the book. It is a book worth to read. The story flows naturally and I found myself deep into the story, it was hard to put the book down.
Will Maella fulfill the last pattern that was shown to her, the last pattern drawing from the Tower of Shadows? Will her friends come to save her? Also she meets someone she never expected to see on the end of this story. Intrigued?
Library of Souls is the third book in the series of Doormaker by Jamie Thornton. You can tell we are starting to get close to the big finale and I for one can not wait to see how it will all end and how the author will bring it all to an end. The plot is creative that is for sure and follows a nice pace, that never feels like the story is dragging out nor does it ever feel like the author is trying to rush you through the story! There are a few big reveals in this one that I was definitely waiting for but we are still missing a few key pieces to figure out how this will all end.
You can tell Maella has learnt how to fight for herself and for those she loves. She has gotten strong and is no longer the little scared girl she started out as in the field way back when. She still has some ways to go that is for sure, but she is after all still are teenager so we do need to cut her some slack there.
Thankfully she still has some very good friends who help her along the well like Sethlo. Some who will do everything to help her in their journey to the One Door, and this sure is not an easy one.
It is very interesting to see these kids grow up. Some are growing into their own making the right decisions whilst others are making more and more bad decisions. The tension is definitely getting thicker and thicker and I for one am curious to see how this will all play out!
Truly wonderful read. Fun fast paced and thoroughly enjoyable. Great characters and a wonderful world. This book grabbed hold of the reader an urges you to finish in one setting. Probably should come with a disclaimer. I have enjoyed the series and can't wait to read the conclusion. Jamie Thornton is a gifted story teller. She is able to take her reader on a great adventure. I think each book the characters grow a bit and take on a bit more depth. Although this is a work of fiction I think it comments on some of the problems that face a modern day society. Truly enjoyed this book and Mrs Thornton is rapidly becoming one of my favorite authors. This book is laced with enough darkness that you enjoy the glimpses of light. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This in no way has influenced this review.
Solid 4.5 star, I just loved how even though it had been a while since I read the last book in this series (not counting the Torch lighters novella) and I fell right back into Maella's chaotic world where no decision is easy and most actions have negative ripple affects for someone or somewhere. It was great to get to know more about licatherin and why everyone is addicted to it as well as why it is just about everywhere as this has been one of my burning questions since it was introduced into the story. This book like the others doesn't let you down and there is plenty of action, mystery, some romance and attraction, action and adventure and writing that makes you feel you are right there with the Maella and the others!!
An excellent continuation of the Doormaker series. Maella has really grown through the series, and I found myself rooting for her a lot more than in the first two books of the series. Maella is much more consistent in her decisions; she not only has matured and learned as the books have progressed (from a 13-year-old to a 15- or 16-year-old), but I understand her motivations much better than I did in book 1. It was also very nice to have a little room to take a breath and have some good things happen to Maella and her companions, and I really liked seeing the connection grow between Sethlo and Maella.
Still separated from her best friend Claritsa (and also Daniel, her only other link to Earth) Maella has made it to Jillow City and the fabled Library of Souls where she hopes to find answers - why her doormaking powers seem blocked, why the doors themselves are only intermittent, how to find and use the One Door to repair the worlds... She makes new friends - and encounters some old faces, some friendly, some not.
The series is wrapped up in one further book due to be released shortly. It's been an intertesting journey.
Maella and the other torchlighters are taken to the library of souls where they are supposed to be working. What they are in fact doing is looking for the answer to the search for the One Door so that she find her family and her best friend Claritsa. They also need to find the cure for the licatherin addiction before it killed them. General Foster hates all Doormakers and has the city under siege until the city hands over the Doormaker - they don't know that it's her.
Doormaker: Library of Souls (Book 3) by Jamie Thornton is an awesome story that I loved reading. This is book number three in this awesome series and I just can not get enough from this awesome author. I highly recommend this to everyone who loves reading about magic.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
It’s been great reading how Maella has been growing as an individual throughout this series. She’s faced with different obstacles, but always finds ways to pull through and/or learn from the experiences. The author also does a great job in building suspense throughout the story and keeping things moving forward.
I really love this series, it is unlike any other! The characters are great. I was hooked from the very beginning of the first book in the series and this book was no exception!!! I couldn't put the book down! I can hardly wait to find out what happens next! I definitely recommend this book!!! Love it!!!
Book 3 was awesome. It had a lot of action and tense moments. Was wonderful to finally see were the story went from the end of book 2. I was glued to the book from start to finish and know anyone that loves a good book with adventure, action and suspense will love Book 3.
Fabulous and fantastic as always. Dark, mysterious to keep you hooked until the end. The plot and the characters are well suited to the story. Don’t miss out once it’s released.
Great continuation of a must read series, Doormaker is addictive reading with a cleverly crafted world and characters you can’t help caring about. I highly recommend reading them all.
Can't say enough about this series, I recently started it and can't get enough! Very well written characters, with a rich world to live in! Well done Jamie!
