Little does she know that the situation that left her broken brought her a proctor in Cain. His protection comes with secrets that Rayven holds the key to. This was an interesting take on mental illness and rape. The characters were somewhat developed, but not enough to provide their motivations. I felt as this was a snippet of a story. We didn't get the full story. Maybe it (the story) was billed as a "short story" and I missed it.

Unanswered question:
1. Why the extreme hatred from the father? stepmother? stepbrother?
when I asked the stepbrother replied, "You were here first." This hardly seems like a reason to set up a gang rape.
