Whisper Creek #2

Promessa de um cowboy

Rate this book

A Cowboy’s Christmas Promise is book two in the Whisper Creek series by Maggie McGinnis. This is my first book by this author. I really had no idea what to expect except that I fell in love with the cover. I was oh so pleasantly surprised.

Daniel McKee is a large animal Vet in Whisper Creek, Montana. Daniel is the only Vet in the area so he is on the go non-stop which doesn’t leave him very much time for his two twin adorable little girls, Gracie and Bryn. These two little angels are going to steal your heart. They completely stole the book, for me anyway. They were precious. Daniel is on his own raising these two little angels because he lost his wife to cancer two years ago. He loved his wife with everything he had. After she died, he moved his girls from Denver where they had been living to Montana where his mother lived to start fresh.

7 year old twin girls:

Hayley Scampini is also a Vet living in Boston. But her clientele tends to be much smaller in size. Her practice caters to show dogs and cats. It’s a practice that was literally handed to her so she didn’t have any say in the matter. She would give anything to break out of this area but she doesn’t see a way to make that happen. She is on her way to Whisper Creek for her best friends wedding. Hayley doesn’t believe in love. In her experience, men don’t stick around so it’s better not to give them a chance to hurt her. But she wouldn’t be opposed to a fling with one of the sexy cowboys at Whisper Creek. What she didn’t plan on is meeting the delicious vet and his two adorable little girls. She sure didn’t plan on falling for him either.

“Falling in love doesn’t mean you lose yourself, Hayls. Sometimes it means you find yourself.”

a blazing little christmas:

Right from the start there was a connection between Hayley and Daniel. And weddings have a way of bringing out the romantic in all of us. So was that all it was? Or could it be more?

Hayley goes back to Boston after her two weeks at Whisper Creek are up. I loved the way that things developed from here. The way that Daniel slowly strengthened the friendship between them. Before Hayley knew it, she had a plane ticket in hand to return to Whisper Creek for Christmas.

Foal and it's mama:

Daniel didn’t think he could ever love anyone else the way he had loved his Katie. But the feelings he is having for Hayley and watching her with his girls is opening his heart in a way he never thought possible. There is a cloud hanging over Daniel’s head, though, that could change everything. His mother-in-law who still lives in Denver, wants them to come back to Denver. She wants the girls to attend a fancy boarding school. Daniel, of course, wants none of it. So Evelyn, the mother-in-law, decides to take things into her own hands and files for custody. This woman had my heart beating out of my chest. I understood the reasons WHY she was behaving the way she was, but I still couldn’t believe how far she was willing to take things. And how much she hurt people in the process.

gazebo with twinkle lights:

This was such a sweet story. And, as I said, the girls just stole the show. I thought the first 75% of the book was really good. But then, wham, that last 25% took it over the top. And I just loved the ending and the epilogue. I admit I usually like my books with a bit more steam and the sexy times in this were a little bit more of a ‘fade to black’ type. But the story itself was just so wonderful. The characters all stole my heart. If you want a heartwarming Christmas book whose characters will continue to live in your heart, this one’s for you.

3.5 The Wonder of Whisper Creek Stars
* * * 1/2
I read this engaging book last year. Somehow I forgot to share how much I had enjoyed it. What reminded me was recently reading Once Upon A Cowboy (Whisper Creek, #3) of this series. As I was reading, I kept thinking...I remember those other characters and their love story... it was good, solid...and brought me closer to the characters of the new book.

This series is based on a ranch in Whisper Creek, Montana. It is a small community with deep roots. The locals all care about each other and the main focus is this ranch which has become a "dude" ranch of sorts. We have Brothers and then these 3 women who are besties from going to college in Boston. Through their need to help each other... they first found themselves out at the ranch in Whisper Creek...trying to relax a one of their friends with a surprise trip.

In this book, Kayla and Decker (1st Book) are now a couple and the girls are coming out to the ranch for a vacation. Hayley, a veterinarian catering to pampered pets with her Boston practice, steps back into her idea of Nirvana out at the ranch. Here are the animals she wishes she could work with...this was her dream when she was back in school. It was not to be, though, as a practice was given to her... tying her hands and heart.

While on the ranch, Hailey meets Daniel, the only practicing vet in the area. He is juggling so much...the death of his wife, the adorable twin daughters he loves dearly and the misguided in laws who are trying to take his girls away from him. Somehow he is managing it all while serving an area which is huge and has needs 24/7.

It is one of the needs on the ranch which brings these two together. Both connect over nursing one of the animals on the farm. Over the course of visits and then overnight care... the sparks and interest develops to more... to the point of laying out one's heart to a girl who lives in Boston. Will she take a chance... will she let herself live for herself for once...

This was a terrific read in how it was set up. The daughters were amazing in personality, the ranch and all of the family lived up to my fantasy of what it would be like. This series has true heart and is a winner in my book.

I am glad I picked up Once Upon a Cowboy... if only to remember how much I enjoyed this story from the series.

I love this book! Hayley is a small animal veterinarian who took over her uncle's practice in Boston. She doesn't believe in love and just likes to keep things casual. Daniel is large animal veterinarian in Montana. He's a widower raising his twin 7 year old daughters alone. He's not looking for love and is still missing his wife. When Hayley goes to Montana for her best friends wedding and for a little vacation, she is introduced to Daniel. I loved the slow build of the relationship between Hayley and Daniel. There was amazing chemistry and sexual tension between these two but also a really good friendship. I loved both these characters and the way there were written was flawless. This book had so many wonderful qualities - it is funny, sweet, romantic, emotional and has fantastic characters that are so easy to love. This is the first book I have read by this author and I can't wait to read more! Highly recommend!!!

Totally, absolutely in love with this book...

As I lay awake in my living room finishing up the last words written by Maggie McGinnis in her latest book, A Cowboy's Christmas Promise, I glance at the clock and realize that in a few hours the birds with be singing outside my bedroom window and a few hours is all the sleep I'm going to get. I'm not worried though, because A Cowboy's Christmas Promise is totally worth the puffy eyes and yawns this morning.

Hayley Scampini is a veterinarian with a thriving practice in Boston. If it weren't for the constant cat patients, she actually might enjoy her practice. When she takes some much needed time off to be in her friend, Kyla's wedding in the beautiful state of Montana, she not only returns to the majestic countryside and her friends, but also meets handsome veterinarian, Daniel McKee. As much as she likes what she sees, she also wants to run the other way, because her history with men and relationships is a big zero. From her own mother's relationship with men, she has gained a total mistrust of the opposite sex, especially since her step-father ran off with Hayley's step-sisters fifteen years before, leaving her bereft and without family to hold on to.

Widower and single father, Daniel McKee could no longer stay in Denver with the constant memory of the wife he lost to cancer tow years before. Taking his beloved twins to Montana and setting up shop as the local vet is giving his lonely life a bit of meaning while catering to all the needs of his beautiful little girls. Daniel loved his wife so much, that he is sure he will never find anyone to come close to share a relationship like he shared with her. Hardworking Daniel spends a great deal of time taking care of his equine patients and not enough time for himself, but at least he is back in the fold with his own people, family and friends, instead of the bitter mother-in-law determined to wreak havoc on his life with his girls.

Once introduced by the bride and groom though, Hayley and Daniel can't keep their eyes off one another and as much as they attempt to deny it, the sparks begin to fly. Not only do they admire each other's looks and demeanor, but they each admire the other professionally. Hayley loves all the work Daniel does with the horses and she yearns to be able to do the same, instead of cater to the feline population of Boston, but she made a promise to her uncle that she would take over his practice and she feels beholden to that promise. Daniel doesn't ever want to feel the loss of another loved one again, but shutting himself off from Hayley is not really working out the way he thought and Hayley's insistence she can't have a long lasting relationship begins to crumble. Can these two people who so obviously to everyone around them care for one another get their lives together and begin again? Or are they going to let the losses they have suffered rule their lives forever?

A Cowboy's Christmas Promise by the fresh-voiced author by the name of Maggie McGinnis is a fabulous read. Both Daniel and Hayley have suffered losses that change their perceptions and their outlooks on their futures, but with the help of two spunky little twins who never lack energy and a group of friends determined to see them happy, Daniel and Hayley begin to see the light. I love the promise of hope, the silly wedding theme which I will not mention, and the bet that brings Hayley back to Montana for Christmas and the HEA they both deserve. Ms. McGinnis is a wonderful writer who I cannot wait to read more from and since this was the first book I happily did read, I have grabbed her first book, The Accidental Cowgirl off the shelf, where it has been sitting since I received a copy of it at RT and am about to crack the spine ( I NEVER crack the spine, I gently open). I urge you to grab anything this author writes because she may make you cry, but you will end up with a smile when all is said and done.

"A Cowboy's Christmas Promise" by Maggie McGinnis....

Book Description....

"In a captivating novel spiced with holiday magic—perfect for fans of Rachel Gibson, Susan Mallery, and Molly O’Keefe—a rugged Montana man mends a Northeast girl’s jaded heart.

Boston veterinarian Hayley Scampini tends the city’s pampered pets but dreams of the rural life of a country vet. She’s single and determined to stay that way, convinced that love isn’t permanent enough to trust. Then a vacation to the Whisper Creek dude ranch introduces her to Daniel McKee, a sexy single dad who runs the kind of veterinary practice she aspires to—and rattles her conviction to keep men at a distance.

Managing a thriving practice, coping with the loss of his wife, and fighting a custody battle with his in-laws over his twin daughters, Daniel couldn’t be more overwhelmed. Hayley is a godsend, accompanying him in the field and winning over his girls. It doesn’t take Daniel long to realize he’s falling for this woman, hard and fast. So before Hayley returns to Boston, he extracts a promise: that she will return to Whisper Creek for Christmas. It’s the perfect time and place to show Hayley that the promise of a beautiful life together is something she can believe in."

What I liked about the novel...

I really enjoyed this romantic novel. Who would have thought when Hayley takes a two week vacation to attend her best friends wedding she would meet Daniel. There would be an immediate attraction between the two and ...well I will stop here and let you read "A Cowboy's Christmas Promise" and see for yourself how well this author presents this well written story it to her readers.

What I especially enjoyed about the read

The author was able to give the readers such a beautiful storyline of Hayley was a vet but had a job that wasn't all that interesting to her and then meeting Daniel who was also a vet, had loss his wife and had twin daughters...and then this story takes off from there. It was definitely a story that one could only wish to find and for Hayley and Daniel...they really had something sweet and real.

If you are looking for a sweet romance "A Cowboy's Christmas Promise" would be a good recommendation for a holiday read.

4 - "Come back for Christmas... Come back." Stars!

Maggie McGinnis gave me the perfect book to end 2014 with. A Cowboy's Christmas Promise is an absolutely adorable story, that spans months and shows real depth and development with its characters and story.

"I'm just here for a cowboy fling."

Hayley has returned to Carefree, Montana for her best friend Kyla's wedding (Book one, Accidental Cowgirl), staying at Whisper Creek Ranch again, it doesn't take her long to shake off the hustle and bustle of Boston and settle back into ranch life, although she doesn't figure hot local Veterinarian, Daniel into the mix, but hey a little holiday fun can't hurt can it...

"I'm not a long-term bet. I'm short, not-so-sweet, and outta here before you say good morning."

I loved Hayley, a total commitment-phobe to her own eyes, but her words and actions as the story progresses show the reader that although she believes she is one thing, she could definitely step into another role without too much trouble.

Daniel, was hot, sweet and a cowboy... Add into that a single father with two absolutely adorable twins and I fell for this book rope, saddle and spurs!

"Embrace whatever happens and ride the wave."

If you haven't read a book by this author before I cannot recommend her work highly enough, Maggie McGinnis offers a refreshing and engaging writing style. You feel involved in the story, and you can help but fall in love with the characters you are reading about. I just hope we don't have to wait too long for the next book in this series, although if I am honest, I would happily read whatever Ms. McGinnis releases next.

I was extremely impressed with this book i literally felt like i was in the book with characters Boston veterinarian Hayley Scampini and Montana's Daniel McKee, a sexy single dad who runs the kind of veterinary practice she aspires to . This story is a real grab you by the heart kinda book .Daniel is a widower who thinks true love don't come around twice and Haley has had her heart broken enough that she no longer believe there is a soul mate even though she is visiting her friend to be her maid of honor in her wedding but Haley says that her friends man is different from all the others he is a staying kinda guy that there is no more like him out there .Haley is out for a hot fling with a cowboy for the two weeks that she is there and that's all then go back to Boston and do whats expected of her. Neither Haley or Daniel expected the sparks between them and feeling starting to creep up .The have to contend with Daniel's mother in law trying to take the girls from Daniel and Haley lack of help with a glue gun to help with getting things ready for the wedding and she cant cook eaither lol and more. Buy this book you most diffidently cant go wrong with it this is one of the kinda books you can read over and over and never get tired of it I loved it. Thank you Maggie McGinnis and Random House Publishing Group-Loveswept for the honor of getting a ARC to review and give my honest opinions and feelings about.

Loved! Loved! Loved this book! With the hilarious banter between the characters and the sweet romance budding between the H/h I found myself grinning and laughing through the entire book. The writing and the pace of the book are fantastic and I consumed this one in one sitting! Simply could not put it down. This is the second book in the Whisper Creek series it can easily be read standalone all though I highly recommend you also grab Accidental Cowgirl and read that one too.

I received an advanced readers copy of this book from Loveswept via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

The title of this book is a little misleading. Yes, some of it occurs over the Christmas holiday but a great deal of it does not. I fear that people may only want to read it around the holiday season but it is a book that can be read and enjoyed any time of year.

This is a super easy and quick read about two people who are struggling with their pasts and who are afraid for their future because of it. Daniel is raising his seven year old twin girls alone and coping with the fact that his wife has been gone for two years. He is trying to balance his domestic life with his professional life that keeps pulling him away from his girls. Hayley is busy running her Uncle's vet practise for pampered pooches while wishing she could be caring for "real" or larger animals. She is single and that is just the way she likes it. She doesn't want to get close to any man for any length of time because she fears they will end up leaving like the men in her past. She doesn't want to make the same mistakes her mother made.

Then they meet...

As much as they don't want to admit it, there is an instant attraction that catches them both off guard. This is not just a simple story of two people coming together. There are conflicting emotions of guilt, sadness, fear as well as geographic differences and two young girls to consider.

All of the characters in this book are wonderful. Well, most of them are. I adored both Daniel and Hayley and loved the chemistry between the two. The easy bantering between the two of them had me smiling on many occasions. I also loved the way Hayley interacted with the twins and the relationship they had with each other.

This is a sweet and emotional story of an attraction that deals with real problems in an honest and realistic way. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.

Reading this book will make you crave cupcakes and want to make snow angels!

Hayley Scampini has come back to Montana for her best friend’s wedding. She’s hoping for a nice quite vacation at the dude ranch unlike the last time that she and her friends were there. Her veterinary practice in Boston is busier than ever serving Boston’s most pampered pets but she longs to be around the larger animals which is what she has always wanted. She’s not looking for love and has a jaded outlook on love due to never having a man in life stick around including her father. She wouldn’t be opposed though to having a sweet little fling with a sext cowboy. It could be just what the doctor ordered.

Daniel McKee is still dealing with the loss of losing his wife to cancer more than two years. Trying to raise his twin girls alone as well as handle the large veterinary practice that he has in rural Montana is proving to more than any man can handle. Add into the mix a mother-in-law that is dead set in suing for custody of his girls and one man that is about to reach a breaking point. When he meets Hayley and discovers that she is a vet as well, one that his girls tool an instant liking to, she might just be the answer to all of his dreams. If only he could talk her into moving to Montana.

When I first started reading this book I wasn’t aware that it was book two in the series but the author does a good job of reintroducing the characters so I was in no way lost but it did leave me longing to read the first book so I’ve already purchased it to read as well.

Both Hayley and Daniel were enjoyable characters and his little girls were adorable. I loved that neither Hayley nor Daniel could cook worth a damn but that they would make cupcakes and let the girls help them while making a huge mess. Hayley was young at heart and the way that she would interact with the twins was great. I can’t wait to go back and read the first book to learn about how Hayley and her friends caused so much trouble at the ranch that everyone still gives them grief about it!

I was given an ARC from Random House Publishing in return for an honest review.

Holy Cowboy babies! Ah this book made me want to pack up and held out west and rope me my very own Daniel! or Cole. Or even Decker. This book was a sweet light read. I found myself laughing, getting angry, frustrated, sad, and then happy all over again. I read this one with a glass (or 2) of wine, maybe that wasn't such a great idea. Oh but how I love a man who is a great father. Daniel is widowed and has 2 beautiful, sweet, fun loving daughters, did I mention they are twins? He owns his own vet clinic and is happy with how his life is now. Its only been 2 years since his wife, Katie died, and he isn't looking for anything more or anyone. That is until miss Hayley enters his life and turns it upside down. Hayley is the leaving kind. Better to leave them before they leave you. She is used to men leaving, her father, her stepfather along with her half sisters, the list goes one. So when one of her best friends is getting married she doesn't hesitate to try and find herself a 2 week fling, only she didn't realize just how much Daniel could get under her skin and more importantly into her heart. Neither are ready for the other, but when they are thrown together they try to make the most of it, but its a battle of wills and can they overcome their past to be together?

Ah how I loved each and every character. Seeing the relationships that are formed and forming is amazing. I can't wait to read more on this bunch! and hopefully see more of Jess and Cole, maybe a wedding of their own?

What is it about Cowboys? Is it the boots, the stetson, that rolling walk from too long spent on a horse? Or is it just something about the type of man who battles Mother Nature on a daily basis and manages to keep a 1/2 ton of animal in control with just his hands? I don't know, but I do appreciate them. And so did our girl Hayley in this book. I am kind of wishing that I had read Accidental Cowgirl before this book, since it sounds like there is a heck of a funny back story to her and her friends visiting Montana. But it wasn't anything that spoiled this story.

Hayley is back in Montana for the wedding of her best friend Kyla. She doesn't believe in love, lasting relationships or dating men with children. Of course, she hadn't met Daniel and his two adorable 7 year old daughters yet. Gracie and Bryn were adorable and were so easy to fall for. I liked that Hayley and Daniel were able to share a connection through their veterinary practices.

This story spans a period of about 6 months from the time they meet until the big climax. There is a sweet Epilogue taking place months later nicely wraps everything up and leaves us with a sense of closure and HEA of the characters. There were several scenes in the book that had me reaching for a kleenex, sad tears and happy tears. There was one scene that had me teared up while giggling. This was quite the emotional roller-coaster ride, but I enjoyed every minute of it. I gave this story 4 stars.

This is a sequel, but you don't have to read the first one to know what's going on. I didn't, at least.

What a childhood! I hope she finds her sisters. At first I thought they died. What a relief to know they were "just" kidnapped.

Daniel is so funny when he's trying to act like having Hayley around is no big deal.

Evelyn sucks as a grandma. Grief is no excuse for that behavior.

That was the best wedding, and the loveliest vows. I would have been bawling.

Megan is a buttinski.

Yay for Daniel manning up with Evelyn. Finally!

Eighteen messages. Ha!

Best.Proposal Day. Ever.

Can't wait for Jess's book now.

A Cowboy's Christmas Promise
(Whisper Creek, #2)
by Maggie McGinnis

Release date: November 18, 2014

*** Provided by Netgalley in Exchange for an Honest Review. ***

Character Introductions:

Two years ago, Hayley Scampini inherited her uncle's Boston vet practice when he chose to retire and since then she's been handling pint-size critters and ridiculously spoiled show cats. She's looking forward to taking a break to attend her best friend Kyla's wedding in Montana under open skies and dealing with larger animals.
When Daniel McKee lost his wife two years ago to cancer, he suddenly needed to learn how to be a single dad to his five-year old twin girls. He desperately needs a partner for his vet practice, but finding a graduate more interested in livestock than domestic has proved impossible. In the meantime, he's still struggling to balance work with fatherhood.
------------------------------
Although this is the second book in the Whisper Creek series, it can easily stand on it's own. The characters are wonderfully written. Daniel and Hayley are extremely enjoyable as primaries. The secondaries are fantastic, however I think the twins kinda steal several scenes. The plot is dynamic and it flows quite smoothly. There are many emotions conveyed nicely and a sweet humor that makes you smile and laugh as you read it. There were several conflicts of various degrees that took some time to resolve, thus creating a world of realism that not many books manage to capture in such a mature way. NO major Cliffhangers, NO "to be continued". The conclusion was solid, it closed the book nicely with only the slightest hint of other stories that could develop in the future.

ARC provided by Random House Publishing Group - Loveswept via NetGalley for an honest review.

OK, let me start out by saying that this was such a FANTASTIC read, I immediately looked up Maggie McGinnis and found that her last novel, Accidental Cowgirl, also takes place in Whisper Creek and I RAN OUT AND BOUGHT IT! Haven't had the pleasure, yet, of indulging in it, but I will ... SOON!
Some of the secondary characters in this novel do come from her first novel, but she does such a good job on incorporating them that you don't feel like you missed out on their story by not having read Accidental Cowgirl. So basically, this novel can be part of a series, but it doesn't have to be read that way.
Totally, absolutely in love with this book...I am at a loss for words as to how to convey the greatness in this book. It was SOLID! Hayley and Daniel have instant chemistry that totally jumps off the pages! They are perfect for each other ... they both have backgrounds of loss so of course neither one is willing to give in to their attraction but HEY ... we have two beautiful and spunky girls and a whole town rooting for them so they don't stand a chance!

GAH! ... I didn't want this book to end. SERIOUSLY ... heart warming as all get out and the laughs ... holy crying from laughing at times! The romance was mostly a behind closed door thing, but you KNEW it was tender and hot and GREEEEEAT!

CAN'T WAIT FOR MORE FROM WHISPER CREEK!

A Cowboy's Christmas Promise is the second book in the Whisper Creek Series. The first of the series was Accidental Cowgirl and I totally fell in love with that book and high hopes for this one. Let's just say, this book is even better than the first and I can't wait for the author to write another one. Maggie McGinnis is definitely making her mark as a romance author and I believe any fan of romance should give this series a shot, because they won't regret it!

We first see Hayley in Accidental Cowgirl as one of Kyla's best friends. Hayley is a veterinarian whose practice mostly deals with show cats and small dogs. Hayley has always dreamed of working with horses, but her uncle gave her his practice as soon as she graduated. Hayley takes a two week vacation in order to attend Kyla's wedding. While there she meets Daniel, who is the town's vet. They are immediately attracted to one another but neither one of them wants to act on that attraction. Daniel is a widow who is raising his twin girls alone and Hayley hasn't had a relationship that has lasted more than 13 weeks.

The chemistry Hayley and Daniel share, is incredible and the connection they have, is the type people could only wish to find. I am looking forward to reading book 3 in this series but since it's not coming out until 2015, I am just going to keep rereading this one! Thank you Maggie McGinnis for writing such a great book.

I received this book free from NetGalley.

Oh Daniel you are sometimes an idiot, "he sighed, looking into her eyes. "Hayley, it kills me to even admit this, but in another time, another place, I would do anything I could to get close to you. You're smart, you'e funny, and you'e - God- gorgeous. But I'm just not...." Obviously he's a man that hates when people interrupt his woman, "just as he tipped he chin upward, just as he was a millimeter away from kissing he lush lips, Cole blasted into the barn, and Hayley leaped backward, eyes open wide again." I was kind of disappointed that the naughty scenes blacked out I was really looking forward to see how Daniel was in the bedroom. Overall I enjoyed the book.

I LOVED this book! It held me to my kindle like a steer roped by a rodeo star! The story of two vets, complete opposite kinds of vet practices. Hayley's practice involves show cats and dogs in Boston. Daniel is a large animal vet, in fact Daniel is the only vet covering a large area in Montana. What draws them is Whisper Creek. Hayley returns to be a bridesmaid in a friends wedding and Daniel is also a member of the wedding party! Chemistry you can feel through the words, a little girl that needs a woman in her life. Family interference from Daniel's former mother in law. Both have a fear of taking chances. A sexy sweet holiday read!

This was a very sweet book. I loved the characters and the story. The twins were so sweet and I'm so glad that her sisters were found. I can't wait to see how that is resolved and I can't wait for Jess's book. I enjoyed Kyla and Decker's wedding. I received this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Four Stars: A simple, sweet holiday romance.

Haley is eager to be free of the irritating pet owners that patronize her vet clinic in Boston. She is headed to Montana for one of her best friend's summer weddings. While Haley wouldn't mind a fling with a hot cowboy while in Montana, she is unprepared to fall in love. Haley isn't big on commitment. Things change when Haley meets the handsome, widower with two adorable girls. Before Haley knows it, she is smitten, but she isn't ready to commit. Will Haley give up everything for love?
What I Liked:
*At last, a simple, straightforward, feel good holiday romance. Even though this is a bit predictable from the get go, I liked that it refrained from unnecessary drama and angst. If you want a terrific holiday romance grab this.
*I adored both Haley and Daniel. Daniel is a hardworking country vet who is trying to balance his career with fatherhood. Daniel lost his wife two years ago, and since then he is doing his best to raise his two daughters. I loved him. He is kind, compassionate, and big hearted. Haley has seen her fair share of heartbreak as well, but that hasn't stopped her from reaching her dreams and becoming a vet. I loved how thoughtful and caring both characters were. It was easy to like them and root for their romance.
*The romance was clean and rather simple. It starts with an immediate attraction, even though both parties repeatedly deny it. I worried that it was going to head into the insta love territory because during the first portion, Haley is only out in Montana for two weeks for a summer wedding. Thankfully after the initial two weeks, the romance takes time to develop into a friendship with calls and skype. Toward the end, I was concerned that things were unfolding to fast, but the epilogue reassured me that the proper time was spent to make sure it was right. In the end, I felt the romance was realistic and sweet.
*I adored the Montana setting. I grew up in Big Sky Country, and so it was easy for me to picture the scenery. I thought the author did a great job with the setting and descriptions, it made me want to head over to Montana in the summer.
*I enjoyed the additional story line involving Daniel and his two daughters. I liked seeing them bond with Haley. I also liked the difficulties that Daniel encountered with his in laws regarding the girls' custody. I appreciated the way that the issue was resolved. It was surprising and refreshing.
*This is a clean romance without detailed sex scenes. It is nice to pick up a romance and not have to wade through pages and pages of explicit sexy times. This one has kissing and steam, but the actual intimate details are scant. So if you are looking for a clean romance, this is good bet.
*This book is a companion novel, and the second in the series. I had no idea it was a series going in, but it wasn't never an issue. The author does a great job of catching the reader up on the events that unfolded in the previous book. I would very much like to go back now and read the first book as it is all about Haley's best friend Kyla and her romance.
*I appreciated that this was a feel good holiday read. There was just a touch of drama, but nothing that ruined the coziness. If you want a true cozy, sweet romance for the holidays, grab this one.
And The Not So Much:
*Even though everything regarding the romance and the two little girls wraps up at the end, I was disappointed that one of the other story lines is left hanging. In fact, it was a bit of a cliffhanger. I am hoping there is another book now because I need to know what happens now regarding Haley and her stepsisters.
*While I enjoyed the romance overall, I struggled a tiny bit with the pacing. At times, it felt like things were moving way too fast, and I didn't like that. However, it does back off, and I liked that the epilogue clarified that they didn't rush into things.
*The ending felt rushed and it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. I wish that the author had taken just a bit more time with that final scene before plunging into the epilogue. The epilogue answered many questions, but it left me wanting more. After the slow, steady buildup throughout the book, the rapid fire ending was a bit jarring.

The Cowboy's Christmas Promise is a delightful holiday romance about new beginnings, and friendship. Set against the stunning back drop of Montana, this feel good read is terrific for the holidays or anytime you are in the mood for a cozy, light, clean romance. I highly recommend this one for a pick me up read.

Although this book was published in 2014, I listened to the newly released audiobook from Tantor Audio. I enjoyed this sweet romance with a bit of angst thrown in. This is the story of Boston veterinarian Hayley Scampini. She has returned to Whisper Creek for her friend's wedding and she meets large animal veterinarian, Daniel McKee. They have an instant attraction to one another, but Haley needs to head back to Boston and Daniel has his own complications including being widowed for only two years, having twin daughters and a meddling mother-in-law that wants him and the girls to move back to Denver. Once back home, they begin calling and skyping one another and a relationship begins to build. Heading back to Colorado for Christmas, their relationship changes into a romance that is not without its complications.

I absolutely loved all the characters in this story. Hayley and Daniel were wonderful and as their relationship grew, I found myself rooting for them. Daniel's twins were adorable. They felt a kinship with Hayley and they bonded well. It was obvious to this reader that they loved each other long before they realized that was what they were feeling. The mother-in-law was the MIL from you know where. I know she was dealing with feelings of the loss of her daughter and was afraid she would lose her grandchildren as well, but the way she dealt with it was not fair to anyone. This was a wonderful addition to this series dealing with love, romance, family and some angst. I love the setting of Colorado and ranch life, so wholesome and inviting. I definitely recommend this one to romance lovers whether you read or listen to it.

The narration by Kathryn Lynhurst was well done, although I found the pace a bit slow. I would suggest speeding this up a bit if you find this a problem. Her expression was good as were the female voices, but I found the male voices a bit lacking. Having said that, I often find that an issue when there is only one narrator. Overall, this was a pleasant listening experience and I look forward to listening to the rest of this series.

A Cowboy's Christmas Promise by Maggie McGinnis is an emotional but enjoyable holiday read.
This is the second in Maggie's Whispering Creek series but it can be read as a stand alone.

Hayley Scampini is a Boston veterinarian who treats pampered pets. Although she longed to be a large animal vet while she was in school, her uncle gave her his practice when she graduated from school. What's a girl to do when she has hugh college loans but accept the generous gift. She is strong and independent and doesn't believe in love. She lost her two sisters when her step-father kidnapped them when she was young, so a long term relationship is not even a consideration for her.

Daniel Mckee is the local veterinarian. He is a widower and the father of twin girls. His wife passed away two years ago from cancer. He doesn't believe that you can have love twice in a lifetime, so he isn't looking. He is concentrating on his practice, his girls, trying to find a partner for his practice and battling with his mother-in-law about the girls.
Hayley and Daniel meet at Whispering Creek Ranch when Haley comes to visit for two weeks. She is there to be in one of her best friend's wedding. Kyla and Decker's wedding was beautiful and I loved Decker's vows because he quoted Piglet.

The chemistry between Daniel and Hayley was subtle at the beginning but it continued to build as they got to know each other better. I liked the way the author had them continue the relationship when Halely went back to Boston. That provided the reader a chance to know more about them and the relationship's growth. When Hayley returns for Christmas, the relationship goes into a deeper level. However, this is also where the conflict and real growth begins. Grief is often a devastating emotion that can be difficult to write about realistically but Maggie did a fine job with these characters.

I was given an ARC by NetGalley and Random House/Loveswept in exchange for an honest review.

I lived this book, Haley is a girl who,has lost loved ones in her life and had a hard up bringing because of it. She lost her sister at a young age and never forgot them not once and still she baked them cupcakes on their birthdays. She is a vet in a boston practice but wishes she worked with big animals, and had open land. She's does not believe in love or happly ever after after her step dad left and men never stayed in her life long.
Daniel is a single dad of twin girls trying to cope with his life as a working single dad. Losing the love of his life to cancer two years ago and working hard while trying to be a good dad, he also has the evil mother in law Evelyn he's fighting with, because she wants the girls to live near her. He doesn't loom at women or even date them he's just trying to cope with life and move on but when he meets Haley and things start to happen.
Haley is falling hard for Daniel and his daughters and with living thousand of miles away and an evil mother in law thrown into the mix, can the finally admit love truly exists?

I know you should never judge a book by its cover, and I believe it’s true, but I did suspect that this would be an easy, cheesy simple romance read. And we probably shouldn’t read so much into the title either, right? I mean it’s called “A Cowboy's Christmas Promise” and that sounds hokey and marketed to manipulate those who enjoy the holiday spirit all year round.

So… I am so pleasantly surprised that this was enjoyable and a lot better written than I expected. The uncorrected proof does need some proofing, though, (most notably the mysterious watch that appears on her wrist when just written that she left it in her cabin!) and could certainly have used an expert’s touch to ensure some solid continuity. I liked it and am hoping there’s a chance they’ll revise the title. Because guess what? The story is not about a Cowboy’s Christmas Promise.

A COWBOY'S CHRISTMAS PROMISE by Maggie McGinnis is a wonderful Holiday Contemporary Western Romance. "The Whisper Creek Series", book 2, but can be read as a stand alone. See, "Accidental Cowgirl".

A heartwarming story with witty banter, characters that warm your heart, a circle of friends, and twists and turns. Her heroes are your boy next door with a bit of alpha character about them, her heroines are sassy, strong and smart. You won't find a more suitable group of characters.

A spicy, captivating holiday read that will leave you sweaty and energized. The storyline is interesting and emotional. The characters are well developed and engaging. Well blended! Perfect for the holiday season.

I received a copy of this book via Netgalley. This has no bearing on my rating or review.

4.5 stars.

This book was sweet and sexy. Hayley Scampini is at Whisper Creek to see one of her best friends get married. One night with a sexy cowboy is all Haley is looking for during her stay. She doesn't do relationships or love.

Daniel McKee has been a widower for two years. Between his veterinary practice and his two girls he doesn't have time for love especially when he knows that no woman could compare to his late wife. So why is he finding himself thinking about the leggy redhead?

What really "made" this book for me was how much Daniel's twins were such a focal part of the story.

The only thing negative I have to say about A Cowboy's Christmas Promise is that some parts of my copy were choppy, and the layout changed frequently.

I enjoyed this holiday story with all the ingredients of a good romance. A professional heroine with fun friends and a professional hero trying to balance work with raising adorable twin girls. I liked the flow of the plot interweaving the relationship. Small animal city vet Hailey is a bridesmaid at her friends wedding in Montana and meets large animal country vet Daniel who is a groomsman.
