You know what, I never rate books before reading them but this time Ill make an exception cause giving a 1 star to a book which hasnt been distributed is terribly unnecessary. I will remove the rating once the book will start getting real reviews, and then Ill read this for myself. Super excited to read what Francine has prepared for us this time! ...more

I am so concerned with this book. The cultural appropriation here is staggering. It seeks to rewrite history, reframing one of the first sympathetic North African / Middle Eastern figures in the western canon as a Sub-Saharan African.

Anyone with even the most basic knowledge of history or Shakespeare will know that Othello was a Moor and not a sub-Saharan African as Ms Simone insinuates when the books main character thinks: Shakespeare was an old white dude who didnt know shit about black

Author, Francina Simone, has done a great job of describing the complexities that make up the live of female young adults in todays society. I was very impressed with all the topics she was able to address, body positivity and acceptance, dating, sex, friendships, affairs, being too black or not black enough, etc.

I quickly fell in love with the main character and saw so much of my teenage self reflected in this character. Heck, even at my age I still wish I could take a F*** it approach to

I got an ARC of this book and my goodness! This book was refreshing, hilarious, and so so real. I never knew what was going to come around the next corner. It kept me on my toes, and I was immediately wrapped up in this wonderful story that the author has created as it was so realistic. It was a whole different YA experience -- one that other YA authors should strive to meet. Wonderful read, and I completely recommend it to someone who wants something that's exciting and fresh.

I received an ARC, and I have to say, this is some of the most fun I've had reading a book in quite a while. The characters are lovable (while still being flawed) and they're developed as the story progresses. Every part of the book feels authentic to the high school experience, which is a really nice change for YA. This book is a roller coaster ride that made me laugh and cry. Words can't express how much I enjoyed experiencing Liv's year of f*ck it.

Thank you to NetGalley, InkYard press and Francina Simone for the early copy of the ebook in exchange for and honest review.

This book was so fun to read! I tend to lean more towards YA fantasy than YA fiction but this book kind of blew me away. Liv was a dynamic character that I couldn't help loving from the moment she walked into a Halloween party in Florida in a hoodie to the last page. While I didn't love the body shaming that happened or her shame for her body rather I did totally love that

I read this book as an e-ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Inkyard Press for the opportunity to read and review this story.

I can hardly even put into words how wonderful, necessary, and heartbreakingly excellent this book is. Its halfway through March and Im gonna call this the best new release of 2020.

Smash It! Is a brutally and beautifully honest coming of age story about being a seventeen year old girl who is fed up with letting fear

I want to start off by thanking Netgalley and Inkyard Press for giving me an e-arc of Smash It! by Francina Simone.

I first discovered Francina and her kick ass personality through her YouTube channel. I was beyond excited to learn that she was writing a book.

Smash It follows a teenage girl by the name of Olivia who like many others her age face a number of insecurities. After one night she decides to create a Fuck It list and do the things that scare her or take her out her comfort zone.

This is the kind of coming-of-age story teenagers need! Olivia was such a fun character to follow with all of her quirks, personality, and imperfections. Even when she's in the wrong, you have to root for her because you know she's just a teenager trying to figure out who she is and how that person fits into the world, and that's all due to Simone making her so believable and fleshed out as a character.

I feel that a lot of teenagers and young adults will find something to relate to in this

I received a temporary digital advanced copy of SMASH IT! by Francina Simone from NetGalley, Harlequin Books, and the author in exchange for an honest review.

SMASH IT! is about Olivia James, a high schooler, that has allowed her insecurities get in her way of becoming the young adult she wants to be. She decides to create a F*uck It List in order to get past her fears. She makes a bold step in trying out her school's musical production of Othello. Olivia makes new friends and attracts a few

I jumped into this novel without knowing who Francina Simone was. I saw this cover and and the blurb and I knew I had to read it.
Francina Simone did amazing delivering this masterpiece that deals with major issues that teenagers deal with everyday...especially young adult females. She touches on the topics of body positivity and acceptance, dating, friendships, sex, and being African American in a problematic white society.
I really love Olivia's character. She decides to make a F*ck it list and

I. Love. This. Book! Olivia is a relatable, powerful, lovably flawed main character with a compelling voice who is working hard to come into her own. I am in awe of the way Francina Simone was able to pack so much into this book without letting any of the balls drop. In an effort to push herself out of her comfort zone by (sort of) following Shonda Rhimes's Year of Yes advice, Olivia navigates everything from trying out for a musical version of Othello to learning the importance of girl friends ...more

Thank you #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this advance copy! This story appealed to me because my daughter recently joined the drama club at school. She spends every afternoon with these kids and cant wait to call them when she gets home. They hang out together as a large group, and sometimes smaller groups on weekends. Thats the same sense of theater family i got when Olivia, O, Liv, found her people at Othello. The friendship she formed with Jackie and Lennox reminds me so much of my ...more

The cover is adorable the story is even better!! This retelling of Othello was one that I will not forget anytime soon and I totally need a finished copy of it!! I could not put it down and finished it in a day. This story covered so much from body positivity to sex and friendship etc. The pacing of course was spot on and I was addicted to every and every page!! I saw a one-man-show called American Moor by Keith Hamilton Cobb and it had a similar topic of conversation that I believe this book will have (based on the brief snippet the author has given). That play brought up some amazing points and so Im curious to see which points this book brings up and if theyll be similar or different. ...more

This book was a great YA read. It's a refreshing own voices novel that handles insecurities well. I loved that the character was a strong female. This was a great fast read. It was beautifully written. I recommend if you like strong main characters such as Emoni in With the Fire on High by Elizabeth Acevado.
