Another great book by Jimmy Fallon (JF)! Just when you think that you know everything JF can do, he does something new that makes you laugh! Learning body parts is given a fun perspective that small children will find very approachable. This is definitely a 'read with someone then read again alone' book that will become a favorite!

First sentence: This is BABY. Let’s laugh and play and sing! What are the parts of BABY? Well, I’ll tell you EVERYTHING.
Premise/plot: This is Baby is a picture book—not a board book. This “concept” book “teaches” the parts of baby: eyes, ears, nose, lips, hips, toes, knees, etc. It sometimes rhymes, but not always. It rhymes just often enough that you come to expect it, enough that when it doesn’t it’s weird.
My thoughts: I think this is a great example of an almost for me. I think it would make much more sense as a board book. The intended audience should be toddlers and very young preschoolers. This in board book or cloth could be one of the first books you share with a little one on your lap. As a picture book, it doesn’t work as well for that young audience. By the time little ones are ready for picture books the subject matter is too babyish. The text isn’t that charming and delightful that it carries over to an older crowd. Now adults may actually care that it is by Jimmy Fallon, but that’s the last thing little ones would care about.
I didn’t hate the text. I didn’t. But I just wish Fallon could have made up his mind if the book was going to rhyme or not. Either would work.

Hello, friends! Our book today is This Is Baby, written by Jimmy Fallon and illustrated by Miguel Ordóñez, third in the pair’s trilogy of toddler-friendly books.
This is baby! This is baby’s eyes, this is baby’s nose. To say nothing of baby’s toes, and hair, and elbows! A practical guide to baby’s bodies, this sweet and simple book walks little ones through the words for their parts, and of course, the most important part of all: the love they have to share
This is perhaps an unpopular opinion, but I was never the biggest fan of Fallon’s previous two kidlit books – they were fine, but always had a tone that felt geared more for towards amusing adults than something for little and big bookworms to share. Yet with this third book, Fallon has broken into a more sentimental and genuine tone – and the book is better for it. Sweet, gentle rhyming text does a great job of covering body vocabulary, and pairs nicely with cute animals who compare their own features with baby’s (a rhinoceros for “nose”, a fish for “lips”, etc), which provides an additional source of learning once readers have mastered the body-oriented text. And the ending, a sweet ode to the love that babies and their caregivers share, leaves a warm feeling in the heart that will have old and young ready for a second read. The diverse group of babies, with their cheerful, sweet faces, will charm readers young and old. The length is perfect, and JJ loved this one. A great addition to any first library, and it’s Baby Bookworm approved!

Cute, rhyming "parts of the body" picture book. It has brilliant, simple illustrations showing babies of varying skin tones along with their animal friend as the body parts are highlighted. This will hopefully be available in board book format too.

My daughter and I enjoy this book. It goes through body parts with cutesy illustrations that are inclusive of many ethnicities. It also includes some animals.
Every time I read this to my daughter, I kind of hilariously think about how its first few pages are an introduction, as if children's books really think about formatting, style, layout, etc. The first few pages just feel very throat-cleary. Many of the pages rhyme, and I guess Fallon didn't want to jump into that immediately...?
At any rate it's a fun book with very vibrant colors and Fallon collaborates with the same illustrator he coauthored "Your Baby's First Word Will Be Dada" and "Everything is Mama" with.
Recommended to parents of young children. I'd recommend a board book edition. the edition I have is normal flimsy pages, which I have to sometimes wrestle with my daughter over to make sure she doesn't destroy them, haha!

I like Jimmy Fallon and his quirkiness as well as his support of literacy. While there are plenty of folks who will also love these picture books, I don't find them particularly charming. Perhaps new parents will since the earlier titles in a similar vein--Your Baby's First Word Will be Dada and Everything Is Mama--are wildly popular. Rhyming text and simple drawings introduce Baby and all of the little one's parts. Caregivers could use the book to teach their offspring the names of these different body parts and movements, and then smile as they realize what the very best part of Baby or any relationship is--a heart filed with love.

Although I’m typically a fan of both Jimmy Fallon *and* board books, I’m afraid I cannot recommend this one.
First, the book lacks a balanced rhythmic structure. While most pages stay in comfortable five-syllable phrases, this pattern is often disrupted by awkward mouthfuls of words for the sake of a rhyme. (e.g., “These are baby’s shoulders shrugging”) The result is a cadence that feels choppy and unnatural.
Additionally, the abrupt switch from third-person to second-person point of view on page 9 is jarring every time I encounter it— which, unfortunately, has been quite often, as my toddler son happens to adore this book.
Two stars for hitting its mark with the intended audience.

Leuk, al deden Everything is Mama en Papa me meer. Er zijn nu eenmaal al heel veel boeken in de categorie babylichaamsdelen. Al blijft het natuurlijk wel leuk om te spelen met die neus, tenen, oren, etc.

Jimmy Fallon’s one hit wonder is a masterpiece. If you started with his other books, don’t give up on him before you try this one out. I can’t believe this comes from the same author as “Everything is MaMa” and “Your baby’s first word will be DaDa”.
It started with giggles as we point out each body part, and now they excitedly and proudly point to each of their own body parts as we read through. They especially love pointing to Dad’s nose too.
All that said, the highlight has to be the quack at the end.

I had no idea Jimmy Fallon had written a children’s book! I picked this up at Ross and read it. Couldn’t believe the price tag of $22.99! I thought even a $10 price at Ross was a bit steep. Really, the illustrations made the book.

Dada, Mama, now baby. Jimmy Fallon completes (?) his children’s book trilogy with This is Baby, an introspective look at the nature of Baby and their relationship with the world. The first few panels introduce Baby. Illustrator Miguel Ordonez continues his magic, this time turning toward humans rather than animals and presenting a beautiful diversity of skin colors and hair types.
Unlike the previous books, which are sort of call-and-response, This is Baby is a rhyming book that names and labels the different parts of Baby. These are Baby’s eyes / This is baby’s nose / These are Baby’s fingers / These are Baby’s toes. Fun animals also make appearances as Fallon explores head, hair, ears, lips, knees, hips, tummy, bottom, elbows, shoulders, arms. The book ends with a recap and a declaration that The biggest part of Baby is the love you get from me.
I feel like this series is great in the sense that kids tend to graduate from Dada (first words) to Mama (building vocabulary) to Baby (ability to label body parts). This is Baby is particularly interactive and just begs for the reader to make reading this book an interactive game. But just because it’s geared more toward the developmental capabilities of “older” babies (I’m talking like 18-24 months, here), it still is going to hold the interest with even littler ones due to the sing-songy rhyme scheme and colorful pictures.
This is an absolutely great series. I love it. My kids love it. As a book-lover, this whole series is my go-to baby shower gift. You’ll get years of enjoyment from these books.

We have this one as a board book and originally got it to complete the Mama and Dada collection. At this point, it’s definitely a little too kiddish for my 4-year-old.
That said, he still enjoys it when I read it and poke/tickle him along with the rhythm of the book, so it’s become more of a comfort read than anything else. He’s clearly outgrown it, but every once in a while he still picks it out (probably for the silliness and the routine of it).
A sweet baby book with some lingering sentimental value… though I should probably move it off his main bookshelf soon.

This is a fun book that breaks down all the parts that make up baby. This is a great book for teaching body parts to your kids.
Both of my kids enjoyed this book, but it was a little too young for my 3-year old. She already knows all of these body parts, so it was more a refresher for her, but it was good to start teaching my 1-year old.
This would be a great book for younger kids to learn their body parts.

A superduper cute book about babies! What makes babies babies! About body parts and cute animals and hugs and this was just so adorable that I was constantly going AWWWW! I really love these Jimmy Fallon books and I hope he makes more of them, because I definitely would like more!
So happy I found this book at my vacation library. They at least sort their shelves a bit more neat, unlike Library #2 who just has a mess. XD

This is cute. The rhyming text is pleasant. The illustrations are cheerful. The book runs through different baby parts and would be a great book to read with a little one on your lap. It's not particularly inventive or novel, but it's playful and sweet. It would definitely make a great gift for a new mom or dad.

Actually, not bad--a big improvement over his previous forays into picture books. But I still can't bear it that the illustrator's name is entirely omitted from the cover. That is unacceptable, I don't care WHO the author is--illustrators must be clearly credited, and it's even more painful when they are nowhere to be found on the cover of a PICTURE BOOK.

The fact this this book is just as good as any other book like it, but will sell exponentially more copies because of the author's name on the cover only proves my Twitter theory - it's not how funny something is, but it's who said it.

A sweet addition to Fallon’s baby series. We enjoy the short rhyming text, and acting out touching noses, etc as we read. The illustrations do make it a little difficult to decipher the parts being talked about based on that visual alone, so parents should be ready to point out parts like shoulders and knees to their children on their own bodies.

Out of the three books in this series, so far this is the best. There is a little more thought and a little bit more work. There is a rhyming pattern. There is a cadence and it’s like a modern head, shoulders, knees, and toes. The illustrations work well and for the first time in the series, not doing all the heavy lifting, but rather complementing the words on the page.

I feel bad for shoving in some children's books to reach higher numbers, but I definitely still wanted to pick up this Jimmy Fallon bestseller! Super cute. Not really my age range, but definitely a good book to own in the future.

Super cute illustrations show us all the parts of a baby. This is perfect for baby story time (although I wish I could find it in a "Big book" format for a larger group). Simple and straightforward with bright illustrations for the youngest readers.

I bought this board book for my granddaughter. I love how it teaches body parts on baby and the illustrations which pair baby up with an animal featuring that part ... such as an octopus for arms. The ending has a sweet body part that you can't see.
