This is an interesting one for me, because sometimes with books for children what I appreciate is a sly humor or internal logic or great art -- none of that is true for this book.

A duckling, turtle, and guinea pig get a phone call that a baby triceratops is in trouble, and fly to a place that is all dinosaurs, though it doesn't seem to involve any time travel. The Wonder Pets see that the baby triceratops is stuck between rocks, use mud to make him slippery so he can come out, the father triceratops thanks them (was he the one that made the phone call?), and they leave. That's it.

The different characters don't look like they belong in the same story (they are an odd combination), there is more Wonder Pet chanting than any other dialogue, and even if mud would be a good solution for getting someone out of a tight spot, I'm not sure encouraging kids to apply mud is a good idea. I can't even say that it's all bad or dumb because everything is so incongruous that my primary impression is weird.

But the kids really like it. They like the chanting and they love dinosaurs. So for them, it works.

I guess I can only be grateful that the time I spend reading to toddlers never gets me stuck watching Caillou.

Julia's aunt sent this to her in the mail and we read it right away today after getting the mail.
This short book (10 pgs.) follows the t.v. show about the dinosaurs stuck between the rocks, only in a condensed version.
It's cool because Julia was able to remember the t.v. show even though she hasn't watched The Wonder Pets in quite some time.
I do wish instead of using just 'dinosaur' they'd have used 'triceratops'. It's almost as if they think kids in this age range can't get it and believe me, Julia's been pronouncing dinosaur names that I have trouble with for years now.
