Every now and again you start to read a book and you get chills because you know you are reading something special.

I could tell the author out alot of thought into this story. Violet and Finn have topped the list of my favourite YA couples. A different kind of love story with such a beautiful message behind it. The friendship that develops between them is written so beautifully. The patience and understanding that Violet shows Finn will have you wishing everyone was this way. Finn is such an am

What a beautiful, heartbreaking, powerful story Micalea Smeltzer has written! I don't usually read YA novels, but this book drew me in within the first paragraphs and I couldn't put it down!
We meet Violet at the start of her senior year, after moving from Texas to Massachusetts after a devastating loss, she and her parents are trying to rebuild their lives and find a semblance of normalcy after Violet's fourteen year old sister committed suicide. Her losing her sister in such a way caused Violet

What a stunningly beautiful story. Micalea you brought so much to this story. Two souls who are different from one another but connect in the most truthful way. If I could give this more than 5 stars I would. I never wanted their story too end. I connected easily with these two.

Pain deserves to be felt. If you don’t feel it, then was the love even real?”

Violet has recently had her whole world turned upside down. Moving to a new town means trying to move on with the tragedy that has broken her f

Some people go a lifetime without ever looking up at the stars. They know they're there and have maybe even studied them in a textbook. Knowing basic facts about something, however, isn't seeing or understand.

Violet Page and Finnley Crawford know this all too well. They know the consequences of things being overlooked, unseen, and cast aside. These two teenagers are each struggling through their last year of high school.

The once-popular Violet has just moved to a new town after the death of her

I’ve read almost all of this author’s books and I always look forward to a new release from her! I received an ARC of this book and started reading it straightway without reading the synopsis! After reading this book, I can say that I loved it a lot! I really connected with the plot and felt like the author did a brilliant job with it! It only took me a few sittings to read as well because I didn’t want to put it down until I had finished it! There was also some romance in the plot between the m ...more

Whatever Happens is an absolutely superb, heartbreaking, powerful, emotional, magnificent story! I'm generally not a fan of the high school stories when it comes to YA fiction, but something about this blurb drew me in. I've never read anything my Micalea Smeltzer before, but Finn and Violet's story absolutely blew me away!

Violet is struggling to find a new normal in the wake of her younger autistic sister's suicide when her family relocates from Texas to Maine. The bullying that led to her sist

This is by far one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time. Poignant, and moving, this book made tears flow more than once. Violet is reeling and lost, her whole family is, or what’s left of it. She’s just lost her younger sister and is uprooted from the only home she’s ever known, moving halfway across the country because of her father’s new job. She’s realized that the things she once thought of as important, aren’t. Starting at her new school as a senior, she’s ready to focus on gradu ...more

Amazing!!

Violet’s family has made a big move to a new town after enduring a terrible tragedy. She is quiet & keeps to herself, no longer the socializing, popular cheerleader she was before. She is not looking forward to starting her senior year, especially with the memories & guilt she can never escape from. When she notices the quiet, social outcast boy next door, she can’t help but feel drawn to him. They slowly develop a friendship that neither was asking for. Both feeling out of plac

Violet&Finn!
This was an amazing read.
Violet and her parents have moved to a new house, next door is where Finn lives.
Finn is autistic, but such an amazing young man, he’s very shy and guarded at first but it’s understandable (sadly) after how he’s been treated by his fellow school peers.
Violet is a caring, kind girl who after the upsetting and sudden loss of her sister has realised there’s more to life than popularity and a social life. I wouldn’t say she dislikes how she used to be befor

Whatever Happens by Micalea Smeltzer
“A different kind of love, 5 stars”

Oh, how I loved Finn and Violet! Smeltzer gave us a killer love story with a real-life twist. Not all hero’s or heroines are perfect but they are perfect for their counterpart and that’s exactly what Finn was for Vi. He was perfect for her and she for him. They just got each other.
Violet is a little broken when she moves next door next to Finn. She doesn’t see his autism and just sees the guy he is. Slowly but surely they bec

Holy mother of God, Micalea is a writing genius. I said one of her last books was made for the big screen, and I stand by that, but this book....This was made for every big screen and every nightstand. This may be classified as a YA read, but honestly I don’t think it fits in just that category. I viewed this both from Violet’s perspective, just as much as I viewed it from her mom’s perspective, and that’s strong. I do not think just any writer can make that happen, and if you’re not a mother yo ...more

Whatever Happens, is about two young adults, Violet and Finn. Violet and her parents have just moved states, perhaps in a way to stop the pain of Violet’s younger autistic sister committing suicide months before.
Finn is autistic, he is awkward, he doesn’t talk to many people, he barely looks in people eyes, he has a service dog. He is secluded at school, he is classed as a freak. But not in Violet’s eyes. She sees him as he is and when he starts to trust her he lets her into his world.

This book was so so so good!

My first read by Micalea Smeltzer, but not even close to my last if all of her stories are like Whatever Happens.

So, I never ever highlight quotes in books. I just don't. I read pretty fast and I never want to take a second to pause and highlight quotes. But with Whatever Happens, I HAD to highlight a couple of quotes. There were a few pieces that made me stop and really think about life and humans and hot sucky they/we can be when we don't understand something.

“You saved me, Nebula. You gave me a reason to keep my feet on Earth. I don’t have to search the stars for meaning anymore. Not when I have you.”

Talk about all the feels!! The epilogue gave me goosebumps! Fin’s words, though they were far and few between, had such an impact. I really liked him. I loved that his character is not perfect. It reminds us that in reality not everyone lives life so easily. The characters were great, and I loved the way their relationship started. Seeing how much Fin

I cried like 9 to 10 times while reading this book (🤨 exaggeration)

Beautifully written......

✨A house is four walls encapsulating emptiness. A home is the people, the laughter, the memories. This home doesn’t have any of that. It’s merely a shell.

✨I never want to let go, because I’m afraid if I do my feet might never touch the earth again.
But that’s the thing about depression and suicide. It’s a silent killer, slowly sucking the life out of someone you love.

✨You’re never too old to need a hug fro

Guys if you have not pre ordered or one clicked this book you need to! I was given an arc copy to give my honest review and wow just wow. This was a beautifully crafted story. From heartbreaking circumstances we
see Violet grow into her true self, Also the development of Finn throughout was amazing to see. They were both perfectly imperfect, and let their differences show. Yes there were hurdles and yes they were painful and heartbreaking to read but coming out the other side fighting , growing and finding the strength to ask for help. Finn was beautifully portrayed and how Violet just sees him is adorable.

If you read one book this year, make it this one. Whatever Happens is the story of Violet and Finn, a girl who last her sister, and a boy with autism. Moving to a new town isn’t always easy, but Violet makes the best of it, especially after befriending her neighbor. Finn is the outcast in school, nobody wanting to take the time to get to know him. Their story made me laugh, and also shed many tears. I was hooked from the first page! Whatever Happens is definitely one of my top favorite reads thi ...more

Whatever Happens was a beautiful story. There are hard-hitting issues that Micalea did a wonderful job addressing in this book. Violet and Finn are sweet characters. I really felt for the two of them. They had some deep issues that needed to be dealt with and as the story progressed we see the change in them. They both have strengths and flaws that contribute significantly to their personalities. Their growth from the beginning of the story to the end is impressive and I just wanted the best for ...more

I received a copy from the author for review purposes.

Whatever Happens is a beautiful story of loss, acceptance, and love. Thank you Micalea! This year I have been reading a lot of good books but I have been missing that book that when I'm finished I can feel it in my chest. You know that tightness in your chest you get as all of the emotions and charters settle into heart where they will stay forever.Whatever Happens is that book I've been waiting for!

This book grabs you from the opening line and never lets go.
Micalea takes us on an emotional journey of loss, heartache, redemption, recovery and love. Finn and Violet come from two different worlds yet both are suffering, ultimately needing to find each other to repair the unrepairable. This novel, however, is so much more - introducing us to a world with a healthy dose of mystery and suspense, it keeps you tied up emotionally all the way to the last line. A truly terrific read.

“I think your my person Violet.” “ I know your my person Finn.” Oh my god this book gave me all the feels. I couldn’t help but immediately fall in love with Finn. I think part of that was he reminds me a little of my son. The way that Violet just accepted Finns different tick and loved him anyway just made me love her! This was a feel good book with little angst. The love and acceptance these characters had for each other was just heartwarming.

This was a really lovely book. It’s sweet and touching and a little bit angsty and it’s great.
I loved Finn. I didn’t think I would, but he gives life to a section that of society that are often misunderstood, misaligned and shunned. He gives them a voice.
Violet is just heartbreaking. She is going through so much and while she has trouble handling it, I think that’s a message in itself.
I HIGHLY recommend this book. It’s not heavy on the love, but it is heavy on the journey, and it’s just as, if n

I absolutely loved this book. Violet and Finn are everything. Violets life changed abruptly, she wasn’t looking to be popular or fit in. She was looking to survive. Finn was the outcast and considered strange. Violet saw the real Finn!
Let’s not forget Mr. Rochester!! Everyone needs to have a teacher like him...I did.
And I will add a trigger warning - this book deals with suicide.
