I went into this thinking there would be some ground breaking secrets on how to ensure sharp focus and decrease grain in your shots. I am already a photographer, but could use some pointers on shooting in low light. His best advice was (paraphrased), “Get to know how your camera works in low light and keep practicing.” I have to laugh. It is simple, and something I have already been doing. I should have known there is no short cut. It is also encouraging, however. This book was a reminder that I am not completely inadequate at low light photography, but that it is a difficult field that takes getting used to, and much practice. Aside from techniques, this book also gives many ideas and methods for photographing various scenes: architecture, flora, fauna, carnivals, portraits, sunsets, to name a few. I would recommend this book not so much to people who are searching out specific camera settings, but to those who want inspiration and ideas on how to tackle a difficult aspect of photography.
