The Beach Club *** Finished reading 7-31-19

This is the twelve year that Mack Petersen has been the manager at The Beach Club in Nantucket. He fled his family's farm in Iowa after his parent's were tragically killed. But, here, he's found a home...with Bill and Therese, the hotel's owners who treat him like a son, with Maribel, his beautiful, blond girlfriend of six years, and with Lacey, the octogenarian, who has become his best friend and confidant.

Yet, this summer holds tons of surprises for each and every character in the story. During this summer, loves will be found and loves will be lost. Storms will be fierce, but survival will be triumphant. Good-byes will be heart-wrenching and first impressions will be unfathomably disconcerting.

A tear-jerking novel of unique characters what all come together in this magical island of Nantucket.

Nantucket Nights **** Finished reading 8-1-19

Three friends, Kayla, Antoinette, and Val have met for their yearly ‘Night Swimmers’ midnight beach picnic for twenty years. Each year, they spill their deepest, darkest secrets of the year. On this twentieth anniversary, the secrets are shocking, hurtful, and life-changing. Unthinkable and unfathomable, they have broken common decency rules amongst friends. And, because of it, one of the three goes missing on this night and supposedly drowns. Her body is never found, creating more suspicion. Could her disappearance have anything to do with her about-to-be divulged secret?

Mystery, suspense, and surprises are in store when reading Nantucket Nights. Much better than the first book in this two book volume. Characters are devious and deceptive and actions are hurtful. This one will spur me on to read other Hilderbrand novels.

Such a great beach read! Really easy and interesting, easy to pick up and put down and jump right back in. Not the best book I’ve ever read but I would definitely recommend to get out of a slump.

I only read Nantucket Nights and didn't really like it. I read it because my book club always reads a "beach book" over the summer along with a classic, and since Nantucket Nights was noted as being about mature women (not twenty-somethings) I thought it would be a possibility. But the three characters all came across as unlikeable (for different reasons) and the main plot element (having an affair with a best friend's teenage son) was disgusting. It's possible the book suffered from being read immediately after a novel by a Pulitzer-prize winning author, but I don't think I would have liked this one in any case.

Ending was a bit predictable, end of the first book felt very rushed. A lot of repeat themes and issues with characters that just felt beaten to death
