Don't Deny Me #1-3

Unforgivable

There is nothing crueler than the person who doesn’t want you enough to keep you, but who doesn’t love you enough to let you go.

Alice and Mick, hot young lovers with the whole world ahead of them...until it all went catastrophically awry.

It takes so little to lose so much.

When a not-so-chance meeting at an old friend's party brings them back together, Alice must decide if the pleasure is worth the pain that will surely follow. After all, people, and relationships, can't ever really change.

But if Alice does decide to let him back into her heart—and into her bed—will Mick be ready to show her the man that he's become…and take a chance on love? Can Alice ever trust him again?

Is it possible to forgive the unforgivable?

This story was originally published in three parts as Don't Deny Me. It has been revised and updated for this collected version.

Mick and Alice, sigh.  I read this as a serial in the three parts that are being released.  I have mixed feelings about the story as a whole, and this is really annoying me because Megan Hart is one of my favorite authors.  But I don't think this is the best example of her work.

So Mick and Alice used to date.  They had a bad break up and haven't communicated since.  But they are still friends with the same group of people and there's a weekend getaway coming up that they are both attending.  Mick wants another chance with Alice.  Alice doesn't want to get hurt again.  And that's where they're at in the first part.  I actually enjoyed the premise up to that point, without knowing the past and what they had gone through.

As the story progresses, going back in time and what broke them up I couldn't help but first be sympathetic to Mick.  Yeah, he has some issues but wow Alice was just a bit too much and too needy for me to handle.  She made me want to pull my hair out at times.  But then he showed his true colors as well, and he wasn't any better than her!

By the time we get to part 3, I just wanted a resolution.  I wasn't necessarily so invested as to the result, will they end up together or not.  But I guess they are both thick-headed enough to deserve each other.  Instead of growing to like the characters despite their flaws, I just wanted to be rid of them.  And that is hard for me to say about a Megan Hart book.

While still showing a glimpse of Megan Hart's flair, DON'T DENY ME just didn't quite connect with me.  I'm sure the next one she writes will!

Mick and Alice thought they were happy together but all it took was a moment to tear them apart. Now that time has passed Mick is determined to get another chance with Alice. But even as they try to build a new relationship, challenges push them away from each other. Can they beat the odds and find a way to build a lasting relationship?

Don’t Deny Me by Megan Hart hits the spot! Both Mick and Alice are complex real characters and the issues they endure are those faced in real relationships. I have to admit from time to time I wanted to hit Mick over the head with something but beyond those moments he won my heart too. Don’t miss out on this great read!

3.5 stars.

Mick and Alice met 10 years ago, and their relationship didn't end well. The novel starts with the couple seeing each other again after a decade during an anniversary party for mutual friends. They reconnect and you start to learn the history of their relationship and what transpires since their reunion.

Told from a few perspectives: the current time and their reconnection, the past - 10 years ago that details how they met, the development of their relationship and how it ended, and then back to their current status. Woven through the narratives are letters that each other wrote, some that were unsent but reveal their feelings and provide insight to their relationship.

While I enjoyed the book, the ending left me dissatisfied. It just ended. Bam. Done. Could have used a bit more there....but others may not feel this way.

As with other books by Megan Hart, the characters are complex, and imperfect. That's one of the reasons that I like her novels - they're real.

In Hart's unique style of storytelling, we see the dynamic of a love gone lost, then rekindled in a 2nd chance where misunderstanding and lack of communication causes this couple heartache and pain, until they finally are able to communicate and understand the feelings they both share. This is an atypical form of Love Language gone awry. Alice's love language is words of affirmation, she needs to hear how Mick feels for her and to be supported. Mick's love language is acts of service, he shows Alice how he feels by what he does for her. A short read, but a great reaffirmation of what a person needs to feel satisfied in a relationship.

I was unsure whether to read this or not, most of the Megan Hart books u have read definitely border on the forbidden side. While it was different I really enjoyed it.
