Boys of the Bayou #2

Sweet Home Louisiana

Rate this book
A sexy, small town, second chance rom com!

Thanks to a drawn-up-while-drinking-moonshine partnership agreement, Madison Allain has to spend thirty days back on the bayou before she can sell her part of the family business.

And if the heat and humidity and freaking alligators of Louisiana aren’t enough to agitate the cool and in-control California girl, then Owen Landry, the equally hot guy who stole her heart twelve years ago, will sure do the trick.

Owen just has to remember three simple-ish rules: Do not fight with her. Do not fight *over* her. Do *not* kiss her. He can do this. He’s charming and friendly for a living after all. But this is Maddie. The only woman to ever shake up this laid-back bayou boy.

Besides, she’s not staying. No way. These people and this town make her crazy. She doesn’t want to be crazy. She definitely does *not* want to own a swamp boat tour company. She just wants to paint. In her quiet, beautiful, alligators-not-allowed, *air-conditioned* art studio.

As for that hot bayou boy? Well, he’s… amazing. But he belongs here in the South. And she definitely doesn’t. Even if her heart stays behind when she leaves.

Holy hot crawfish, I’m sooo in love with this Landry clan! I think they’re my favorite book family ever, and I’m ready to drive down to the Autre, Louisiana, and beg them to adopt me. They’re boisterous, opinionated and interfering, but they love large and always, always have each others' backs. And I don’t know if it's the local climate or the Landry DNA, but they grow their men strong and sexy with breath-taking grins, unwavering loyalty and hearts as big as their beloved bayou. Madison Allain may not share my sentiments, because she left Autre at age sixteen and never looked back.

Maddie is content with her life in California. She's content not thinking about the people she's loved and lost, and she's content not thinking of Autre as home now that she’s made a new life for herself on the opposite side of the country. But since her brother's death, the check she gets every month as part owner of the Boys of the Bayou Swamp Boat Tour Company forces her to think about Autre and all she left behind. Including Owen Landry. But in order to sell her share of the business, the agreement states she has to spend thirty days working in the company, so now she has to deal with everything from back home she put behind her over a decade ago. Especially Owen Landry.

Owen and Maddie burned hot and fast back in high school for a month before she left town. All passion, hormones and reckless abandon, they made each other crazy and had more than their share of impulsive decisions. They’re both adults now, with more maturity and self-control, but embers still smolder, along with the potential for crazy to make a reappearance. And isn’t this a tantalizing setup for an awesome second-chance romance? You know as well as I do, there's no way Owen and Maddie will be able to resist the pull between them. And their second chance is spectacular – touchingly beautiful, laugh-out-loud hilarious, deliciously steamy, poignantly evocative and so, so good!

Gah. I’m so swoony over Owen and Maddie, it’s utterly ridiculous. Nicholas again tops herself with a captivating, hypnotizing storyline that sucked me in and wouldn’t turn me loose. I read this in one sitting, staying up way too late, and absolutely hated to finish the last page. I can't get enough of these characters and wish their story could go on forever. Owen is a laid-back alpha, generally easy going, but he's also a fixer, doing whatever he can to make life easier for those he loves. And his growly, protective side? That’s some shiver-inducing yumminess when it makes an appearance. Maddie has created a polished, professional persona during her years away, but it’s not long before her bayou comes out, and she's not above getting physical to take care of business and protect those she cares about.

As it stands right now, The Boys of the Bayou is my number one series for the year, and I seriously doubt anything will come along and knock it out of that spot. Josh's story was great, but Owen's is even better, and I have high hopes for Sawyer's story in Beauty and the Bayou. These books stand alone, so you can start with Owen's then catch up with Josh's and be ready for Sawyer's book in August. Unless you hate sexy, southern gentlemen, strong, smart women and sweet second chances, you'll absolutely love Owen and Maddie story!

5 Bayou Loving Stars
* * * * * Spoiler Free- Oh My, FREE!!!!!
There are some books you read to escape and have a little fun...Well, this series has taken that idea and run with it...I am in love with the Bayou Boys, and Erin Nicholas, You Are The Woman!

Owen has this huge heart and Maddie is a match for him.
The history they share, the sparks they cause is only half the fun of this story. Ms. Nichols packs the punch of addressing loss...how we grieve, how we have survivors guilt, and how it shows up in the strangest ways. She weaves this tale with truth, care, surprises, and yes, all the sexual chemistry you can handle.

You need to read this yourself. You need to have this experience of joy because I was so taken by this couple, I read through the night.
And as a tease, do not worry...There is another Bayou Man waiting to have his story told...I cannot wait.

We're going back to the bayou!!! I'm so excited that Maddie and Owen are up next! These two have a history that is crazy and fun and truly a part of them both. Getting them back together was so much fun!

I know a few people were a little frustrated that Maddie was trying to fight her feelings for Owen and being home again. I kind of love that-- that means those readers are in love with them and can't imagine anyone feeling differently! lol! But I promise, even Maddie knows deep down that it won't take long for them to all get under her skin...and into her heart.

A little behind the scenes with this book-- my editor and I had loosely plotted the whole series last summer, so I generally knew where this book was going and who these people were. Or so I thought. As I was writing, though, something wasn't quite right. I'd gone in thinking that Owen had been a little crazy and had done some over-the-top things for Maddie in the past which was part of why she was worried about coming home. She liked her stable, predictable life in California and didn't want to go down to the bayou and stir everything up again because lord only knew how that would turn out. But it wasn't all quite fitting together. Then, one day, it hit me. And I texted my editor, "I've got it. SHE'S the crazy one." Sure enough, that was what we'd overlooked! lol!

I hope you love Maddie and Owen's crazy love story! You'll also get to see a lot more of all the Landry's and meet a couple of people who will become important down the road ;)

Thanks so much for taking these trips down south with me! Can't wait to see what you think of Maddie and Owen!

And if you need a little theme music for the book, I can suggest:
Lose My Mind, by Brett Eldredge
50 Shades of Crazy, Chase Rice
My Kind of Crazy, Brantley Gilbert
Crazy Girl, Eli Young Band
I Want Crazy, Hunter Hayes

Welcome back to the bayou everyone!

Just when I think Erin can’t write a better H she outdoes herself. I LOVE Owen Landry! He is protective, alpha to the core and soo damn swoon worthy! Maddie is forced back to Auture for 30 days, to try to sell her percentage of Boy of the Bayou. The Landry’s are trying to keep Boys of Bayou in the family by reminding Maddie of everything she loved about the bayou. Maddie tries to keep her emotions that only seem to come out while in Auture in check so she can sell her share and get back to her controlled life in California. What she doesn’t want to happen is remember everything and everyone she loved when she was younger, including Owen, to keep her from selling.

The chemistry between Owen and Maddie spark soo damn hot! You can’t help but fall in love with them. Owen will do anything for those he loves, including sending the woman he loves back to California so she will be happy. Can Owen and Maddie figure things out 12 years later?

Another amazing read. There is a reason Erin is my one click author!

Fantastic second-chance romance by Erin Nicholas. Owen is a sweet, sexy southern man. Maddie is the cool and collected Bayou-turned-California girl trying to keep her crazy under control. But Owen knows the real Maddie and does everything to help her get back in touch with who she really is. Their story is filled with love, many laughs and just a touch of Bayou crazy. Great second book in the Boys of the Bayou series.

I love this Boys of the Bayou series, and each book gets better! If you have been following the series, you know that they are all still trying to get over the death of Tommy who was Sawyer’s best friend, Maddie’s brother and a partner. Now Maddie owns 35 percent in the business like Sawyer, lives in California and wants to sell her share. I am so glad the guys are making her come and work for 30 days per the contract before she can sell. It was fascinating to hear about Maddie’s and Owen’s history, especially when you think that they were only teenagers! It is so much fun to see their craziness twelve years later. I love how the whole family sticks up for each other no matter what, and also tries to help each other no matter what. It was fun watching Maddie and how she shows her feelings. This is such a good book, that I strongly encourage you to read it. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book.

Fun! This book just had a good vibe from the start and never lost it. After twelve years, Maddie returns to Autre to satisfy the requirements to sell her share in Boys of the Bayou Boat Tours. Maddie is determined to not get attached to the Bayou or her crazy extended family and return to her orderly life back in San Francisco. Owen had tried to prepare himself for Maddie’s return but seeing her again knocks him for a loop. Owen and Maddie have loved each other for years-the glimpses of the younger years were full of teenage emotions and the front row seat to their grownup love was entertaining and sweet. Friends, family and love bring out just the right amount of crazy!

Oh my! What a perfect sigh worthy story. I am absolutely in love with Owen and Maddie. Their chemistry is off the charts hot but there are also some amazingly sweet moments between them too. And definitely one moment when I was tearing up and my heart literally skipped a beat when I read what Owen was willing to do to make Maddie happy. He is just amazing. I absolutely loved every minute of this story. A definite must read if you want a loving and fun story that shows you what true love and caring is all about. What a wonderful group of characters. I so want to be a part of this Autre family.

The second in the Boys of the Bayou series does not disappoint. Erin Nicholas has a way of writing scenes and dialogue that paint the most detailed pictures (no pun on Maddie’s talent intended). The Bayou craziness comes through clearly (Maddie’s description of her encounter with TSA had me laugh-crying), but so does the fierceness and love the extended family shares for each other. I appreciate that her heroines don’t get offended and give as good as they get. Now those are strong females! The author also does a great job keeping familiar characters involved but giving the main characters the spotlight. Owen and Maddie’s story is just what you’d hope for it to be. You know they belong together, and the ride they take to get there is plain ol’ steamy Bayou fun. This review was written based on a pre-release digital ARC. WOW. This book makes you wish you can move to Autre.
Maddie and Owen have been together till she moved away, now she is back. She doesn't want to be back but she has to, 30 days that's what she has to spend in Autre and then she can sell her share in business and go back to San Francisco.
Owen and Maddie find out that the spark they had long time ago is still there and is hard not to act on it.
This book is awesome. All the characters are back and we meet new ones.

Thank you Erin for another great book.

I read a lot of books, over 300 each year. Some books are just a great way to pass the time. Others are funny or they're stories that you can relate to. And I love all of those sorts of books just for those reasons. But there are a handful of authors who write books that can really hit all of your feels. They make you feel like you are right there, in the story, and that the characters are people that you know personally. One of those authors is Erin Nicholas. I anxiously await each new book she writes. Her latest book in the Boy's of the Bayou series, Sweet Home Louisiana, is one of those books.

Owen is one of the part owners of the Boy's of the Bayou swamp tour company in Autre. The company was started years ago by two friends, who have since passed it down to the younger members of the family. Maddie's grandfather was one of the original owners. Owen has had feelings for Maddie since they were young teens. He has missed her since she moved to California. But now she's back to sell her portion of the company that her brother Tommy left her when he died. Owning it is too painful of a reminder of her brother and the rest of her family. The terms of ownership require her to offer her shares first to the others. But she has to spend 30 days at the company before she can sell her shares. But will Maddie be able to handle all the memories in Autre and can Owen contain his feelings for Maddie?

The story is sweet and steamy and filled with a cast of other characters who have big personalities that add to the story. I just loved this book and I was sorry to get to the end but I think that the next story might be even better.

I loved the Boys of the Big Easy series, but I am loving this spin-off series even more. The Landry boys are something else! The characters are larger than life and so much fun.
Maddie moved away from Louisiana years ago and has reinvented herself. The last thing she wants is to slip back into big who she used to be, but she can't help herself. Watching her come to terms with herself and her family and friends in Autre is just beautiful. I thought she was very brave about facing down her fears and kicking some tail in the process.
I felt like I didn't really know much about Owen going into this book, so I wasn't sure what was going to happen. He treats Maddie so well. I loved how he thought about her and understood her. They make a great couple, and they have excellent chemistry.
My favorite part of the book was the humor. The running joke about the shed was so funny. And the little stunts Maddie pulls to keep girls away from Owen. And Kennedy's reaction to Bennett was priceless. Add in the crazy family members, and there is something funny on nearly every page.
The epilogue sets up Sawyer's book, and it is absolutely perfect. I am dying to get to that one! Sawyer is my favorite Landry anyway, and the woman he will be paired with is awesome. Can't wait!

This is such a great book!
I truly enjoyed reading it!
It's a captivating, fun, steamy
& moving romance.
Owen & Maddie, steal your heart
from the very first pages to the last.
It has the quirky small town charm
& the love of zany family.
Boys of the Bayou Tour's contract
state, if a partner wants to sell, they spend a month working, together.
So Maddie, is here for the month.
Owen, Sawyer & Josh are hoping
she'll rethink this. Emotions stir in her, seeing family & friends. But Owen, wow! What he does to her. Maybe Maddie's
visit to Autre & seeing Owen is what's she's needed all along.
Can't wait for book 3!
I loved everything about this must
read story!!!

There is nothing I love better than a second chance romance and I especially love it when the couple doesn’t rehash their past and blame each other for their break-up throughout the book which made Sweet Home Louisiana a perfect book for me. Over a decade apart hasn’t changed the chemistry between Owen Landry and Madison Allain and although she is now more California girl, he is betting that a little time in Autre the Bayou girl will come back out to play.

When Madison Allain’s brother died in a horrible accident, she inherited thirty-five percent of the Boys of the Bayou tour company he owned with his best friends, a company started by their grandparents decades before, but the monthly reminders of the life she left behind are too much and in order to sell her share in the business she must return to Autre and work the business for 30 days before she can bring in an outside of the family buyer.

Someone bring me a fan and a big ol’ glass of sweet tea because I need to cool off after reading Sweet Home Louisiana. Years apart hasn’t dulled their attraction and with each passing day Maddie’s feelings towards Autre, the family she left behind, and Owen grows and she even finds that working the business gives her a sense of satisfaction she didn’t expect. I felt for both of them because it was easy to see they had real feelings for one another, but Maddie’s fear of them turning into her parents was a huge issue which is the reason she left in the first place. I loved that Owen was determined to show Maddie they had matured and the mistakes of their past were youthful indiscretions and how willing he was to do anything to have her back in his life. Working beside Owen and his cousins gave Maddie a respect for the way they loved the bayou, the business, and entertaining the tourists.

It was hard not to love these characters, their crazy families, and the winding path that had them falling in love all over again. Not only did Ms. Nicholas give us a fun filled, high spirited, and completely entertaining love story in Sweet Home Louisiana, she dropped some key hints about what’s to come leaving her readers wanting more and more!

I love this series!!

Read this book! Just read it! Because this book, this series is fantastic.

Maddie is ready to leave alligators, her family and all of Louisiana behind in favor of her new, calm, not-crazy life. But first she must make one trip back, for 30 days, to sell her share of the Boys of the Bayou swamp tour company. But once she gets back she has to contend with all her teenage feelings...especially those for her first love, Owen. Owen has a lot of feelings too...especially for a certain girl who disappeared from his life 12 years ago. Now not only is his business being being threatened, but so is his heart.

As Owen and Maddie work together to save Boys of the Bayou sparks fly and craziness abounds.

I absolutely adore this series!!! The Landry family is sweet and hysterical at the same time. Maddie and Owen will set your kindle on fire! I can not wait for more from this family!!

Madison is part owner of Boys of Bayou touring and hunting company. Her brother left her his share but in order to sell, she must spend thirty days in Autre. Owen is another owner and Madison’s ex. Madison doesn’t want to go there but must. The more time Madison spends, the more she remembers all the good and crazy times. Because no one can make her do crazy things like Owen and vice versa. Will she sell and head back to California or will she finally come home.
I cracked up laughing, couldn’t put the book down, and needed a cold shower. This is the second of this series and I really can’t wait until the next one.

Owen enjoys the fine things in life, "He followed, keeping his eyes off her legs. But not off her ***. Even in that flared skirt, it was a fine view." Maddie just really appreciates her man, “very,” she said nodding, still staring at his ***k and not even trying to pretend not to. “Damn, you look good sittin’ there.” I liked this book, I love the characters in this series, they're freaking bat**** cray cray at times.

Yowzers! I love this new series by Erin Nicholas. I thought I loved Josh and Tori in book 1, but Maddie and Owen have taken over as my new favorite couple in the Bayou! Owen and Maddie give a new definition to the hot, steamy, south in this second chance romance. I don’t want to say too much but the first time they reconnect in the office of their touring company is HOTTTTTT!! I had to reread it, it was so good. I love how these two are protective of one another and will do anything to show their love for each other. I have fallen in love with the Boys of the Bayou and I can’t wait to read the third story about Owen’s cousin, Sawyer! I hope it is released soon!!

Erin Nicholas continues to amaze me with the stories she writes. Owen and Maddie are absolutely wonderful together. Owen and Maddie have a past that is explosive, so when Maddie returns to her home town of Autre sparks fly and the chemistry between them is off of the charts hot. Owen is that alpha male that we all love, he is rough and tough and prides himself in taking care of everyone that he considers his. Maddie is a force of nature that has a protect streak of her own and everyone knows it. Owen and Maddie have now become my favorite couple in this series. Sweet Home Lousiana is a fun filled romance that definitely leaves you wanting more from the crazy clan in Autre.

Oh my goodness! Madison and Owen’s book is awesome! My favorite second chance romance of the year. Maddie has to come back to the bayou because of an inheritance but she’s determined that she’s not staying. Will Owen convince her that she truly belongs there with him? You definitely need to read this book! I’m loving the Boys of the Bayou series can’t wait for the next book!!

This is second in a series, but you don't really need the first to fully engage here. Josh and Tori are present, but not in any way that relies on the first. I still recommend reading them in order, but it's not really needed.

This was nearly as good as the first. It's better with the exposition and not going over and over every point in the internal ruminations setting up the story than the first one is. So the pacing is better on that score. On the other hand, Maddie's entire objection to, well, everything (Owen and the town and the business) is a negative motivation* that drags the plot down considerably. It almost kind of makes sense if you take her starting point from when she left because that's some big trauma there. But that was twelve years ago and there's a lot of change that happens in those new adult years so having her still motivated entirely from that experience doesn't really sit right.

That said, Owen is exactly my favorite kind of male lead. His strength and competence is just awesome and how much joy he finds in his work and in helping others just melts me. I love the protective thing he has and love it even more because he is so careful to be actually helpful rather than simply doing things the way he thinks they should be done.

There's a little bit of not talking things out with the other and assuming things (on both their parts) but that was all perfectly reasonable and I loved how they learned to appreciate and support each other. And I loved seeing Maddie learn to trust herself as much as much as I liked that she never didn't trust Owen. And I also really liked how each explicitly contrasted where they are now with how they were as teens; how their love is different because they are different and in ways that showed interesting things in their growth.

And I hate that I've become conditioned to expect a dark moment when I get to about 80% and things feel really good. But I am. So it was lovely that Nicholas went a way that didn't involve betrayal or hurt or needless manipulation of the characters.

Anyway, I'm still enchanted with the location and people. I wish Maddie hadn't been so flat at first, but things pick up about midway and never let up from there. So I'm giving it five stars though it's probably still a shade less than that and I'm calling it "rounding up" to get there.

Oh! And is epilogue abuse a thing with this author? Or only with this series? I swear, Nicholas seems to think that epilogues are supposed to provide a lead in to the next story instead of a coda on the relationship just completed. I hate this more than a little (but not enough to rate lower as a result).

A note about Steamy: There are two or three explicit sex scenes putting this in the middle of my steam tolerance. And I think Nicholas did an excellent job using them to show the relationship developments involved so none of it felt extra or gratuitous.

* Negative Motivations: I kind of hate that the term "negative motivation" isn't widespread, yet. Since it isn't, I'm going to save off this little jag to append to my reviews that feature the term. Jennifer Crusie blogged about it a bit back (or, if that link doesn't work, here's a cache of the original) and it changed how I understand story. The problem with the term is that if you've never heard it before, you'd assume it meant motivations that are harmful or immoral. Not so. What it refers to is motivations not to do something. The thing is that many of us are motivated to not do things for a lot of different, perfectly valid and reasonable, reasons. The problem is that in a story motivations to not do things are a huge drag on the plot—particularly considering the fact that most negative motivations are overcome by the character simply deciding they don't care any more (or, rather, that they do care and are now motivated to do the thing). So not only do you have a counter to action but you also have a situation where to overcome it, all a character has to do is change their mind. Which means eventually, the reader is rooting for the character to get over him/herself already and do the thing we want them to do. Conflict drives story. Conflict between a reader and a main character drives readers away from story.

Well I loved this book from start to finish - a wonderful second chance romance. Maddie is back home to sell her brothers share of his business after his sudden death! The agreements set out when their grandfathers formed the business means she has to wait 30 days and work at the business!! Thought some twists and turns she finds herself falling back in love with Owen. Her dilemma is whether to go back to California to continue with her art of stay with the history of a town she left 12 years before! The Bayou boys - you'll fall in love with them and I can't wait for Sawyers story!!
I am an ARC and I agreed to give my honest unbiased opinion!

I couldn’t put this book down. I think it’s one of the best in the series so far. I’m honestly disappointed that I finished the book and can not wait for the next one to come out.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Everyone strap yourself in and go on this explosive ride with Madison and Owen!! The heat coming off this couple from page 1 is scorching hot!! I can not get enough of this couple, who are so protective and genuinely good and loyal to each other and all their friends and family!! This book sets up the next book for Sawyer and Juliet!! Can't wait to devour that book also!! Each book is a stand a lone but you will want to read each book in order to get the full effect!! Now don't hesitate to go and read this fabulous story!!

Can you ever go home again? More important, what if you're not sure you want to?

Sweet Home Louisiana is the second in Erin Nicholas's incredible Boys of the Bayou series. Owen Landry is one of the current owners/partners of Boys of the Bayou, a swamp boat tour company owned jointly with his cousins Sawyer and Josh, and Sawyer's late best friend Tommy. Tommy Allain left his shares to Madison, his baby sister.

Maddie and Owen were friends growing up, and the year she turned sixteen, that friendship took a turn to become the hottest thing since sliced bread. Or shrimp and gator gumbo.

However Maddie moved away not long after that, and Maddie's since restyled herself as a cultured California artist and gallery owner. The memories of that teenage romance are bittersweet, taking her back to a time when family and the wild, deep passions that love inspires are everything. She can't envision returning to that loss of self control, and yet, bound by the terms of the ownership agreement, she has no choice but to spend the next month working for Boys of the Bayou in order to sell.

Owen was hoping he'd be long over Maddie--he hasn't laid eyes on her in years, but apparently his heart has other ideas. And the Landry family welcomes Maddie back enthusiastically, like a long-lost daughter. The welcome both warms her, and truly terrifies her, filling her with the need to run and to protect herself.

Erin Nicholas has penned another masterpiece in Sweet Home Louisiana. It's filled with heat and heart. Owen and Maddie share a deep chemistry which the years apart have not muted in the least. And we (and Maddie) are reminded that while passion can inspire what seem like crazy actions, that depth of emotion is ultimately our greatest strength, giving us the will and means to make a life meaningful and satisfying. And yes, home is where the heart is.

Sweet Home Louisiana is Erin Nicholas at her finest. Characters who are warm and funny and sincere and quirky and oh-so-real. Chemistry that leaps off the page and pulls us in and curls up in our hearts and burrows down to stay. Heartfelt conversations. Vulnerability. Taking the time to listen to those you love. Willingness to do the right thing. Incredible storytelling. Humor. This book has it all. It's the ultimate feel-good read--one to savor the first time through, and with every re-read. If I could, I'd happily move to this little corner of the bayou--the Landrys and Boys of the Bayou define home and family in this universe where they speak their minds and you know they've got your back.

Sweet Home Louisiana is another keeper, and Beauty and the Bayou can't come soon enough!

So far this Boys of the Bayou series is proving to be so sweet, sexy, charming and fun! I am totally loving it! I loved book one with Josh and Tori and Erin Nicholas has hooked me in again with Owen and Maddie. Unlike the first book, this couple has quite a history between them from when they were teenagers, so Owen and Maddie's story is ultimately a second chance for the adult versions of these adorably crazy, protective and sweet people to get things right this time around. Because of her brother Tommy's death, Maddie now owns a share in the Boy of the Bayou, but she has been living in California for 12 years now, and not interested in being part of it at all, or so she thought. She wants to sell her share, but the boys, Owen, Josh and Sawyer, make her come spend 30 days back in Autre before they will allow such a thing. And so the fun begins!
This opens up the chance for Owen and Maddie to reconnect and from the the first moment they see each other again, sparks fly, passions flare and things will never be the same again. I love both of them so much! They are fantastic characters as are the rest of the crew. Can't wait for more!!
Stay seated on the swamp boat as the gators aren't the only thing that could get you on the bayou!
