Review to come. Let’s just say the action of the second half of this book saved it from a lower rating. The first half was sloooooooow.

I loved this! I was so excited to have the opportunity to read an early copy of this book and I was not disappointed. Irene, Kai, and Vale are on the case once again and this time they have a couple of additional characters along to help. The story was exciting and intelligently written. There were some pretty big revelations toward the end of the story that have left me quite eager to see what will happen next in the series.

The Dark Archive is the seventh instalment in the magical and utterly beguiling (The) Invisible Library series by critically-acclaimed and mightily talented fantasy writer Ms Cogman, and despite the worry that the series may be beginning to flag by this point, I needn't have been concerned as this is the perfect escapist treat and antidote to these troubling times; it is every bit as enchanting as the previous books, if not more so. A professional spy for a mysterious Library which harvests fict ...more

I know I am biased when it comes to this series, but I just loved The Dark Archive. Every time I think I've figured out the storyline, something unexpected happens and I just gobble it up. With the treaty in place from the previous books, Irene, Kai, and Vale are now joined by Catherine, the Fae niece of Lord Silver. When they go on a retrieval mission, everything goes to pieces and old enemies resurface. This was nonstop fun and mayhem and I am going to be in misery until book 8 comes out in a ...more

This book is dedicated to librarians and I FEEL IT. <3

***

Irene continues to be my literary role model with her quick thinking, intense bravery, and stoic wit. She is remarkably unruffleable for someone who is frequently an assassination target.

The book begins with violent shenanigans that erupt while Irene and Vale are out on a shouldn't-be-especially-dangerous adventure. In her escape, Irene discovers an unexpected and magical door, which opens to reveal someone dangerous who should already be

This book was received as an ARC from Berkley Publishing Group - Ace in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I was beyond ecstatic when I heard there was another installment of The Invisible Library and not only is this my favorite series but I have never read a series on a library that makes my heart race and that there is an adventure everywhere you turn. This time, Irene has a new trainee and everyday is hard for this trainee unti

This is the "library book" you've been waiting for! Cogman has revitalized the series completely in 300 pages. After the sixth book, I wasn't sure I still cared about these characters, but "The Dark Archive" reminded me why I loved it to start.

All your favorite characters are back for a fast-paced adventure that will change everything. This book feels like the start of a series rather than the 7th installment. There are multipl

Irene and her friends stumble through multiple assassination attempts and discover a new crime lord taking is over London. As they try to untangle the web, old enemies join forces and resurface.

I've read the previous novels in the series, so I definitely wasn't surprised the writing was good and very engaging. I missed the gang and was looking forward to reading about them again!

This novel though, was a bit more focused on the current plot rather than the bigger picture. I'd already read half o

This book was provided to me by NetGalley in return for a fair review

So this one fell in my lap, and it sounded like a very interesting premise. I had no idea it was book 7 in a series, or I would not have requested it. I absolutely hate jumping into a series mid-stream, but I went ahead anyway.

By a seventh book, it is implied that there is going to be a lot of lore and backstory in a series, and this was different. I quite enjoyed the summary device at the beginning, but felt like there was goi

(Disclaimer: I received this book from Netgalley. This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)

The Dark Archive proves that the past will never stay buried. Especially in a series full of Fae betrayals, high technology worlds, and chaos running rampant. Full of back and forth banter, The Dark Archive introduces new plots and welcomes old enemies. Well, the word welcome might be an exaggeration. The danger and intrigue continues to build, as Cogman introduces some new character

I love this series, so I am not a very unbiased reviewer, but The Invisible Library series quality is still as strong in book 7 as it did back in book 1. While this was not my favourite in this series, I liked how Cogman brought the whole of Irene’s crew back together in their home world, in a book that has finally revealed things about Irene’s past.

And that epilogue. I don’t want to give anything away about this book

Every time I finish a book in this series I never quite know how to feel. But I keep reading them, so clearly something appeals. I do love a book with odes to librarians and looking books, and a low-key romance is always welcome. Overall, I would recommend the series as a whole and this book continues building the magic of the worlds (or worlds in this case).

I really enjoyed the introduction of Catherine’s character. She is a great balance to Irene’s intensity, which often rubs me the wrong way

This is the latest installment in the Invisible Library series. Our trustworthy spy librarian is back in the danger zone with her new assistant (a very young Fae). Along with Irene on this mission is her lover Kai (a dragon) and old friend Inspector Vale. They are in the middle of a dastardly plot involving reanimating Fae and must get around some near- miss assassination plots which may or may not involve someone who is dead. They are also in the middle of some very fragile peace agreements bet ...more

The Dark Archive is the seventh book in The Invisible Library series, and one of the most fast-paced and action-filled. Despite the movements between several worlds, ambushes and a flying car chase, this book also brought more development to the character of Irene than the last several novels in the series have managed to do. I wasn't too excited about the addition of two characters to their band of core friends, but the addition of the characters was worth it in the end. And the reincarnation o ...more

Thank you to NetGalley and Berkley Publishing Group for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I somehow missed that this book was far along in a series until I got into it and realized there was significant backstory that I was missing and that makes it a little tricky to review. In the end, while there were certainly things about the characters and the worlds Cogman has built that I didn’t know, I still enjoyed the book. In fact, I enjoyed it to the point that I’m starting b

This series just keeps getting better and better. Irene continues to evolve as a character and face more challenges to both her physical being and her own sense of morality. The new character of Catherine offers another look at what it means to be a Librarian. Out of all the books in the series, this book by far has the most interesting plot and the most intriguing ending. Cannot wait to get this on the shelves of my library.

This has been a really fun series to read so far. I really enjoyed the steampunk vibe and mad science bits in this volume. Our old friends are all back along with a entertaining array of foes. Plots are schemed and secrets are teased!
I don’t have a good sense from this one how many more books there will be in the series but I’m enjoying the ride and am happy this isn’t the end of the series yet!

Another solid entry in the Invisible Library series. Old enemies resurface and secrets are revealed. Best of all, the core trio of Irene, Kai, and Vale are working together (with Catherine) to investigate just what is going on,

Most of the chapters are still narrated by Irene. But a good chunk are told from other characters' perspectives.

Irene rules

Irene is just a great hero - thinking on her feet and working with her friends. This is a worthy addition to the series drawing on lore and stories and histories of everyday things. Excited to see where things go next

I just love this series. It's smart and fun and...smart...I'm a little shocked there have been so many in the series as they flow together remarkably (I think I read the first 3 without interruption and now think of most of the early happenings as the events of one book).

Genevieve Cogman got started on Tolkien and Sherlock Holmes at an early age, and has never looked back.
