Shallow Lake Book #1

Kasper Wind wanted nothing more than to spend his senior year in Colorado with his annoying older brother, Lukas. But when his father chooses drugs and alcohol over the family, Kasper's mother is left with no income and a difficult decision.

Forced to leave the only home he has ever known to begin a new life in a new place, with grandparents who are virtual strangers, all Kasper wants is to get through school and return to Colorado. He never expected the complication of capturing the attention of the town bad boy and Alpha.

Things are about to get a whole lot more complicated in this twist-of-fates novella.

NOPE. NO. I had to stop at 25% because I just could not make myself finish it. How in the world it's getting such high ratings and good reviews is beyond me. I have so many highlights and notes all ready to go, but just in case, let me give you a little taste

19% "The thought of food tended to make me sick and wanna vomit." 21% "meanwhile, I was daydreaming about a juicy hamburger and a nice shake."

wait .. what ?? So thinking of food makes him nauseous, but daydreaming doesn't? I just don't get that. Then there's the part where apparently EVERYONE at school is either a ginger or red haired. The author also can't decide between referring to someone as "Grandma" or "Grandmother", the main character keeps describing himself in such an odd way. His pearly white teeth, his super pale smooth cheek, his frail body, his trim waist. Apparently when he looks in the mirror he absolutely hates himself and feels like throwing up or something just from his appearance. It's just so damn weird.

The writing style is simply bad. This author has contradicted himself from one sentence to the next. The main character is not likable at all so far, in fact, I feel confused by him. He doesn't seem whole, like there's a lot of pieces missing, things that would make him seem more complete as a person if that makes sense. The way he refers to people, his obvious disgust for "humans", people being nice to him and him thinking they should "shower in gasoline and matches" for no damn reason at all. I can't.

How do you plagiarize Twilight and think you’re going to get away with it.

The Flow of this story was off...and the writing was not executed well. The author had to mention each and every action that the protagonist did. Eventually it was like just reading words and not an actual story. If it wasnt for the blurb i wouldn't know where this was going for the first 7 chapters. I was so confused and bored as kasper went through his day " too bad food is disgusting and so were humans " i was like huh? But then he was gorging on pancakes and thinking about McDonalds? But then calling himself a skinny queen. Wtf?

This book needed to be edited a whole lot. I dont like to leave negative reviews but i can't understand how this got 5 stars. At first i figured there was a story behind Kaspers nightmares and maybe a reason why the author kept hammering on about his pale complexion and adversion to food...i thought it was going to be some vampire twist. The overall story was messy and the characters had no depth. It almost seemed as if Kasper was bipolar not to mention his brother keeps running away from home? Why???

I'm rating this book 2 stars. I wished it was executed well because i only honestly love reading this genre as one of my absolute favourite is Greencreek series by TJ Klune.

It was an easy book to read, however, shockingly so it was more so because I loved the original -

It’s a real shame that the author decided to plagiarise a popular book, yet not realise that the book world can probably quote from memory Twilight. -

‘But I couldn’t fall asleep until after midnight, when the rain finally settled into a quieter drizzle’ Twilight

‘It was a nickel past midnight when I was finally able to doze off, the rain settled into a quieter drizzle ..’ I howl for you

I was looking to post this review on Amazon, but luckily the author has seen sense and has taken it off, or maybe Amazon done it themselves!

If I could I would leave zero stars!

Plagiarism is never something that should happen!

Shame on you!

For fucks sake take responsibility and remove the plagiarism, apologize to Nora, and get over it. I am sick of a bunch of bored middle aged women bitching about this. My point is this has been going on for DAYS! I am personally sick of reading about it. I get it already and everyone has heard about it. The author has been reported and chastised on every social media sit there is. Move on. At a certain point it becomes bullying (especially when people are tell an author to kill themselves) for plagiarizing another author that has made over a BILLION dollars and undoubtedly gives 2 shits about some obscure romance novelist that MIGHT sell a couple hundred copies. Everyone grow up.

First novel is very good...

I always enjoy finding new authors. This new author is young, still in his teens, but his writing is worth watching. He has a vivid imagination, and he gets his ideas written down well. Some sections are a bit shaky, but others are brilliantly imaginative. As the novel progresses, the plot becomes clearer and more defined. Very well done, Mr. Hawkins! I look forward to more novels from you! This is a solid 3.5 star review.

I guess this is plagiarism? Never read the Twilight books.

It sweet and funny and a good YA read for sure. But I feel bad giving it more stars if this author used passages from a very well know series. I hope they can pull the book back and fix there mistakes. I never want to discourage a new author but it’s probably a good idea to use your own ideas. I think the story it self is interesting but I wouldn’t use other authors writing fir the story. Your own words would be a better chose.

This is the first in this series and i quite enjoyed it. Kasper and his family moved and hes not looking forward to starting another school. I just really liked his story and really could not put down. Can not wait for more.

I wasn't really impressed with this book. There was so much detail spent on unimportant things and it could use another round of editing. The characters are high school students and it definitely reads that way.

Didn't know about the plagiarism when I started reading this, but things did stand out as familiar and now I see why.
I read the first five chapters, willing myself on, but it was too slow paced. The first 10% of the book was the trip to the airport and getting settled at the grandparents.

I read this book for BMBB review group
I read a lot of mm shifter stories but this one didn't grab me. I found the story lacking in places and Kasper was just annoying. The author almost introduced other story lines for future books but also didn't. I'm not sure I'd read anymore in the series.

Gay Twilight

The book was ok. It’s almost identical to the Twilight book except a gay version and no vampires. Glad it was a free kindle read.
