The first time I met Lily Carter, I thought she was an angel. I’m still convinced she is. She was pure. She was kind. She was Lily. Everything about her captivated me. She called to my soul. Being with her broke an unspoken rule between the Hayes’ and the Carter’s. But they broke it first when one of them started dating my sister. Now, all bets are off. Lily may be fragile, but she’s not broken, and it’s time people stopped treating her like she is. I’m making Lily mine, and there’s only one thing that can stop Death. And I wouldn’t put it past a Carter to go to those lengths. I’m willing to pay that price. Because without her, without that piece of my soul I know she holds, I’m dead inside. *** Soul of my Soul is a spin off series from the The Next Generation Carter Brother series and begins with Lily Carter and Jaxon Hayes. You don't need to read the Next Generation series to read this one, although I would advise it if you like to get to know the characters more.
Found myself happily absorbed in this book when I first started reading, there were lovely moments of amusement, entertainment and emotion. Despite this being super slow burn, it was a good enjoyable read (particularly the first 45% or so)
Jaxon and Lily as a couple and individuals I liked, Jaxon may have been a positioned as a man whore, but apart from the tiny and somewhat unnecessary drama with one of his ex-bed-mates, it is clear Lily is it for him. I do wish he had gone after her sooner though.
I really enjoyed the start of this, in fact I was loving it, but then in the latter half of the book things took an unexpected, and somewhat undesirable turn. I didn’t like the family drama when – really not cool.
In addition to that I wanted Lily’s reaction to be somewhat different to what it was . Ok, I’m apparently not the type to forgive easily, but they so needed to learn a lesson and work for forgiveness (both of which don't really occur).
Also, the trouble the Hayes were facing when it came to their business was never resolved, is it going to be tied up in the next book? If yes, I would have liked it to be resolved in this one. If the author is just going to leave things as they stand with that part of the plot – well that would suck.
We finally get the 'youngest' original Carter Sibling's story & we knew it would be heart breaking because we were all there when her big brother's found her at 4 years old - malnourished, abused, neglected and God knew what else!!😭
Lily is a pure soul. Wants no one to suffer in life, for any reason, not if she can do anything to help!! She still fights her PTSD triggers but she's a survivor!!🙏👍
Jaxon is the oldest sibling of the Hayes clan. He's a tough man but has had to be to keep the rowdy boys in line & to protect his family after his Dad died!! He's viewed Lily Carter as a living Angel since he laid eyes on her at age 12 years, his opinion hasn't ever changed!!😍
Although there is a lot of storyline in the book that I thoroughly enjoyed, I could have happily read one that just included them falling, it was so sweet & perfect!!💘 😍 The entire book runs through a vast amount of differing emotions, I went from choking on sobs to giggling like a lunatic, within the space of a few pages 😃 I love that about this Authors writing!!👍
I was really happy Lily's flashbacks, although absolutely awful, didn't go into too much dark detail. That would've made this book unbearable to read for me!!😔😟 There was enough to let us know what shattered that poor little girl, to explain her triggers etc but it didn't overwhelm her story & rightly so - because she's stronger now!!💪🌟
I'm really looking forward to more Hayes Family books & The Next Generation Carter Brother's Series. These characters are just too amazing to let go of!! 💙🙏💖
The moment Lily Carter was brought into the Carter family she was treated like glass. Adopted by Maverick and Teagan and raised as there own, but the short life she led before that leaves her broken at times and triggers have a way of not being able to control even though she is careful about her environment.
Jaxon Hayes has always seen Lily and has held a crush on her, but she has always been untouchable. One night though changes everything and Jaxon decides that he is tired of denying his feelings for Lily and wants a shot with Lily, she is his game changer. The problem is that the Carter's and Hayes are enemies and their love for one another is forbidden. They plan on bringing everyone into the fold but want some time to explore what they have, what happens though when the family finds out. Will it tear Lily's family apart or make them stronger?
So I made the mistake, unbeknownst to me to read Maddox before Soul of my Soul. Lily and Jaxon story is a big plot point in Maddox book but you don't know how or why they got together. This book fills you in and was an emotional read. Lily is stronger then what she is given credit for in previous books. Jaxon sees that with Lily and he treats her like gold but he also knows she has a back bone. Wonderful story, was better then what I expected given I had a glimpse previously into their story.
Manwhore hero and virgin heroine. I was really liking this book until one of his ex-fbuddies showed up. You almost forgot that he was a manwhore until that point because of the way he was with Lily, so caring and selfless, but then that unnecessary drama happened and it just disgusted me considering how pure and innocent Lily really was. She feels a lot and that drama really hurt her.
Because of this I DNF AT 64%
Also, Lily’s family (the men) is a lot. They are way over the top and pretty much bullies to the Hayes family (Hero’s brothers). I read in a review that the uncles and the brothers beat up Jaxon when they found out he was dating Lily. That is completely unacceptable seeing as how he did not deserve this. I would say he should have pressed charges because through out this book they constantly bullied Jaxon and tried to intimidate him.
All the Carter males are complete hypocrites as well; they are all manwhores, but do everything do sabotage the women’s love lives.
The only book I would consider to read after this would be Hayden’s. She seems like a badass and doesn’t take shit from anyone. I just hope she is not saddled with clueless manwhore aka Reid.
Lastly, please learn the difference between principle and principal
Soul of my soul is book one in the take a chance series. This book is Lily Carter and Jaxon Haye’s story. We know Lily from the carter brother series and Jaxon and his brothers are in the last two books released in this series (Aiden & Landon) he is Paisley’s oldest brother. I have been intrigued by Lily since Maverick and Teagan adopted her. We do get some insight on what Lily went through but we get more of her life as an adult. I really liked that Lily never gave up on Star and Miah. She saw herself in Star. She was determined to get someone to listen to her and help them. The chemistry between Lily and Jaxon was clear to see. I thought that they made a perfect couple. I liked that Jaxon Fully accepted Lily and her past. He knew she had triggers and helped them. Jaxon brought peace to Lily. Lily brought sunshine to Jaxon’s life. I liked that Jaxon never gave up on his love for Lily. He had loved her since he first saw her in high school. He stayed away due to the fact he didn’t think he was good enough for Lily. As the years progressed he kept his distance but Jaxon soon got his chance to be with Lily. He wasn’t going to let the Carters stop him and Lily’s relationship. I love still love the Carter brothers but I was really disappointed in them. I understood that they were protective of Lily but they went too far with what they did to him. Lily was pleading with them to stop. They were selfish. I was glad that Lily spoke up about what she was feeling. I just wish that she had put them in their place a little more. I liked that Faith and the rest of the female cousins spoke up for Lily. I really liked the ending for this book. I liked that Lily and Jaxon finally got their happily ever after. I liked that we get Maverick’s point of view.. Even if I was still annoyed with him. I just wish that this book had an epilogue because I wanted more. The storyline for this book is easy to follow and an action packed read. I cannot wait for more books from this series.
Where do I even start. Lisa Helen Gray never fails to deliver the most amazing books that you can't help but love. I was so excited to finally get Lily and Jaxons story after reading about them in Landons book and it definitely lived up to my expectations. Lily and Jaxon had such a pure and real love that had me wanting to protect that love from the obstacles they faced. From the sweet, caring and non judgemental nature of Lily to the strong and handsome Jaxon (who is secretly such a sweetheart) really hit all my feels. It was great as always to catch up with the rest of the carter gang who never fail to give you a laugh. So go give it a read, I cannot recommend this enough along with anything else written by Lisa Helen Gray you will not be disappointed.
This might just be my favorite book EVER! I can’t even begin to explain how much I LOVED this! This was EPIC! everything we been waiting for and so much more, you gave me all the feels with this one, I think I’m still in shock with this love story it couldn’t have been any better! I love these guys so much and I love you for giving them to us! As always I can’t wait for more, I’m so excited to see what’s next!! THANK YOU for this greatness!
This book. ( this might contain some spoilers just a warrnings)First of all IT'S THE CARTERS! So its a auto read for me. Love those crazy assholes! The Hayes are fairly new to the series. Just first time we saw them was in Faiths book. Starting to kind off love them and can not wait for the next book..
Lily- Think she was liked to a fairy or princes a lot . I think it was not just her look but the spirit she seems to posses in her as a kind and carring person. Tho Lily is a harmed soul. Been through so much for suchs a young woman. She never seems to ask for anything but only give so much. Her family tho overly protective of every woman in that clan, they are crazy so with Lily. Lily shows and this is something I LOVED that she does have a back bone. Even with all the trama she is dealing with she is not as breakable as people think. Tho always protected. There are some triggers with abuse in this book but nothing big. Just touches on the subject. As both the Carter boys and Lily have dealt with that in there life. She meets kids that are dealing with something like that. Wanting to help. Jaxon- He has a past. like most men in this series. I loved him when it came to his family. He is very protective but lets them to there thing. Now his view on Lily is pretty much an angel. Pure, sweet and everything he wants. Since he was a just a kid himself. He is very protective of Lily. Tho he seems to always to be pushed away from her by her family. That is understandable with there history. They are lovely as a couple. Sweet, taking it slow kind of thing. This is not an overly sexual book which is not a need at all. They are sweet
That being said I would have liked is she would have raged more at her family for what they did. Sorry but treating her like a breakable object and not seeing that she had grown a lot. Not listening to them as she keeped having to repeat herself to them. Like she did not know how the world worked. Tho I think that is more own personality that I would have wanted that. Do not think Lily was built to every raise a voice to high are get to angry. She bottles way to much in. I think in truth . Her family got away far to easy. Other then that tiny nitpick I loved this book..
And just last words. If you have not read the Carter book.. You really should they are awesome!
I love Lilly i loved that she has grown up and how strong she has become i hate the episodes she has they are so heart breaking. I love the love her and Jacob has but how much of an ass her family can be
You get the Carter and Hayes together and you know there is going to be trouble. Jaxson has had a crush on Lily since he was 12 years old. When he just happens to always be in the right place when she is facing a crisis it isn't much longer when she starts falling for him. She has always noticed him but never had the courage to do anything about it. As they slowly start allowing themselves to have some kind of a relationship things turn for the worse. What really disappointed me the most was that Lily caved. I wanted her to fight for Jaxson not let him go to save him from her family. Jaxson's heart break was very emotional. Truthfully I don't get the animosity between the families. It's never really been brought up. Also the over protective way they guys are to the girls in the family is so over the top ridiculous. I would get it if they were teenagers but they are in the mid 2o's.
I like to think I’m one of Lisa’s biggest fans. I’ve loved her books from the beginning. I am so happy that when the carter books first started it was a big family. And that family had lots of babies. Which means I get to read sooo much more about the carter family. But now not just the carters but the Hayes.
This book I have been looking forward to since I first found out about lily. I was so happy to see her with someone so strong and imperfect.
I’d like to read more about star and her brother.
Oh what am I saying. I just can’t wait to read more of anything lisa writes.
I’d really like to read Hayden next. I think it will be hilarious !!! Specially with max.
So I am saying you HAVE to read these books. You’ll regret it if you don’t.
This is my favourite book so far. I read the book in 1 sitting as I couldn't put it down. I had such mixed emotions while reading about this couple and don't normally cry reading books but I actually had to stop reading because of the tears. I really wanted to punch the Carter brothers in their junk as they couldn't see how right Lily and Jaxon are for each other. At the same time the interaction of the rest of the family is hilarious. Can't wait for the next book (need some Hayes)
I was so eager to read Lily's story. I'm amazed at how beautifully written her story was. Lisa Helen Gray brought out so many emotions in this book. You go from POV of a 4year old torture & fear moving on to her being an adult and getting to find her true self. From caring, to scared, fear, like, love, bravery, heartbreak and finally her SOUL. All this from both Lily & Jaxon As always Lisa Helen Gray has captured my heart with her words in bringing life to these characters. I wanted to be a Carter..... But now --- Can I be a Hayes?!
Wow! I absolutely loved this book! I couldn't wait for Lily's story and it was amazing! I love that Jaxon has wanted her from the first time he saw her and it added a touch of sweet. This is my new favorite book to read and i look forward to reading it over and over again! I don't know who i want to know more about though! The Hayes or Carters! but i'll settle for Charolette! *Wink wink* I can't wait until her book! Let's face it you are an amazing author! Definitely a one-click! :D
Sad tears, happy tears and everything in between. This book was everything. Everything perfect and everything that I was hoping for when I first read that Jaxson chapter from Aiden. I don't know how Lisa Helen Gray does it and every time she delivers each book better than the last. Also, Jaxson just moved up to my favorite Lisa Helen Gray book boyfriend and (as I always suspected) Lily is my favorite heroine.
Ok I don't generally leave reviews because I never really know what to say but damn I've read all the Carter brother and to date on the next generation (landon) and been run through the emotional ringer with them all and you've done it again Lisa Helen Gray I've laughed cried laughed smiled cried some more and been left grinning my damn head off so much my son is now looking at me strange. Absolutely well done on yet another great story can't wait to read what you come up with next
This book destroyed me in the best possible way. It was an emotional roller coaster from start to finish! I love Jaxson Hayes and Lily Carter. Lisa you ARE so talented. Really looking forward to Hayden and Charlotte's books.
I absolutely loved this book! As I do with all of her books but I was very excited to see Lily's and it was everything I thought it would be and more! I seriously wish I could be a Carter! I already can't wait for the next one!!
I loved Lily and Jaxons story! It was so good and well written. Their families always have me rolling and I loved the ending! I really cant wait for Haydens book because her dad will go postal and it will be so amusing! Such a great series.
I was looking forward to this book for so long. And was not disappointed. The way that jaxson loves lily is so pure. I can’t wait to see what happens next for these two family.
5 stars b/c it had all the elements. Ups, downs, and love. I look forward to all ur books. It gives me the missing pieces i wish i could have in everyday life. I was so excited when I saw on FB that it was live. I am a completely satisfied customer.
I love Jaxon and Lily. They are perfect together. He has loved her since he was 12 years old. Watching her from a far. Thinking he wasn't good enough. Boy was he wrong. He is her whole world. She is his everything. The title says it all "Soul of my soul".
Lisa Helen Gray never fails to deliver the most amazing books, I highly recommend this book I can't get enough of the Carters and Hayes keep them coming... I was so excited to finally get Lily and Jaxons story after reading about them in Landon's book and it definitely lived up to my expectations.
I cannot express how much I love Lisa’s books. If I go into a book flunk where I just can’t get into any books I try to read her books always get me out of it #cantreadfastenough#greatauthor#addictive#pain#love#real#needmorenow#thebest#keepwriting
I waited so long for this book and it did not disappoint, I really enjoyed it. I can't wait for the rest. I'm really looking forward to Charlotte's book and Hayden's and everyone else's.
