Robert J. Emery is a multi-award winning author, screenwriter, director and producer. He has spent his entire adult life in the television and motion picture industry before retiring and turning full time to writing novels. The author of nine books, four were non-fiction, he has been honored with the 2017 Author's Circle Award for Excellence in Fiction, the 2018 Readers's Favorite Award for Best Fiction, and the 2018 Book Talk Radio Book of the Year Award (for his novel The Autopsy of Planet Earth).
His non-fiction books were based on the multi-winning series he created and produced for Starz/Encore - 91 one-hour episode series THE DIRECTORS. The four volumes were published by Allworth Press, NY. They are currently being distributed by Simon & Schuster.

He has written and directed seven feature films, his last, Swimming Upstream was for the Lifetime Television Movie Channel. Winner of the Sapphire Halo Award for Best Dramatic Motion Picture, Angel Citi Film Festival (L.A.). The film starred two-time EMMY winner Michael Moriarty.
He Produced, directed and edited the MSNBC prime time documentary FOR GOD & COUNTRY: A Marine Snipers story for MSNBC, hosted by Lester Holt. The program received the FIRST PLACE award from the National Headliner Awards in the category of Documentary Or Series Of Reports, and the Special Jury Award as the best production in the informational category of the Professional News Division during the prestigious 2007 CINE Golden Eagle Competitions.
The Genocide Factor: The Human Tragedy (producer/director), a four-hour PBS mini- series. Hosted by Academy Award winner Jon Voight. The series was awarded the Gold Special Jury Award for Best Television & Cable TV Series/Documentary from the Houston International Film Festival. The series is running internationally via History Channel International.
KidHealth (producer/director), 13 half-hour episodes on children’s health care in America. The PBS series was hosted by Olympic Gold Medallist Peggy Fleming.
Golden Saddles, Silver Spurs (producer/director), a one and a half hour documentary on the history of Western Cinema for Starz/Encore Western Channel.
Mr. Emery is the recipient of over seventy-five industry awards for his work including two Golden Camera Awards from the Chicago International Film & Video Festival for best documentary. He won top honors at the New York Film Festival nine years in a row (1991-1999).
Mr. Emery is a member of the Directors Guild of America, The Association of Independent Authors, and The National Association of Writers and Editors.

Essentially a transcription of the interviews held during the series The Directors, it’s not great literature by any means. However, if you are a film buff, then it can be a fascinating, intimate look behind some of the most famous films ever made.
This volume includes conversations with Spike Lee, James Cameron, John Carpenter, Sydney Pollack, Robert Wise, and many more. I would recommend skipping the parts that don’t interest you, as some sections are a bit dull, but it does introduce you to some underrated movies and increase respect for these directors.

A string of interviews with directors with pretty big names... and even if you don't regonize their names you discover that the names of the movies they did are pretty big. For instance, I can't say that I ever heard of Norman Jewison before, but oy, does he have a tracklist of classics!
Since all these interviews collected here took place in the late 90s to early 00s this book is everything but current, with some careers going quite a bit further since then (or going further down the drain), and some careers having ended because... um... the people went six feet under. And well... I can't say that I learned that much in the end, except for a couple of really cute anecdotes and a few peeks into early television history. The interviews are a bit shallow overall (but probably meatier than others out there) and aren't much more than just fluffy stuff for the film buff. But it passed the time, and that it did very well. An enjoyable snack for the breaks.

كتاب جيد في تعريف المتفرج بأهمية ودور المخرج وطريقة عمله , ولكن اقتصاره على المخرجين الأمريكيين وبعضهم ليس بالأهمية الكبيرة أفقده بعض العمق المطلوب , ولكنه يظل مهما في معرفة كيف تصنع الأفلام في هوليوود وطرق التعامل مع الممصلين والتغلب على المصاعب المختلفة الني تواجه المخرج , الترجمة جيدة ولكن المترجمة احيانا كانت تقوم باستخدام تعبيرات عامية بشكل غريب فتترجم Tension
لنرفزة بدلا من توتر وتستخدم التعبير العامي خفة الدم بدلا من خفة الظل , يبدو أن أحدا لا يراجع الترجمة في المركز القومي للترجمة

There are 3 volumes in this series & I have arrived at the 1st one 3rd. Interesting enough, & some amazing film makers included (Spike Lee, Sydney Lumet, James Cameron, John Carpenter), but not as insightful as I was hoping.

Least good one of the series so far: same questions for every filmmaker, sometimes quite boring answers..
