The third installment in the Hellbent series is coming Feb. 24, 2026!
Quinn I’ve always had too many men in my life. My overbearing father. My domineering older brothers. My invasive nephews. The Trents and Caruthers run this town, and although I’ve never given them a reason to worry, they treat me like I’m made of glass.
They’re wrong, though. At twenty-one, I finished college in record time, I own my own business, I pay taxes, I don’t party, and I’ve never broken a law.
But I have one secret: I raced to grow up in case he ever came back home.
Lucas Morrow grew up with my brothers and my family, but he left when I was thirteen. I’ve waited to see him again, making sure everything is perfect.
But I’ve realized I’m waiting my life away. It’s time to move on. Maybe get my own place.
And I think I’m going to make some new friends, too.
It’s summer. Cookouts, Fourth of July, the Night Ride… I want freedom.
I mean, I am my brothers’ sister. Did they really think the apple fell that far?
Lucas She thinks her family are the only men watching her. So innocent.
And I want to keep her that way. Even though I’m twelve years older, we were always the odd ones out around her family. She gravitated to me, and I always made sure she wasn’t alone. When I left, I told myself she’d be fine without me. They all would.
But really, it was just an excuse to escape the guilt.
I only meant to come back for a few days, but I never entertained the thought that she’d grown up. Her brothers are distracted, and one bad decision after another is circling her.
A motocross racer who can’t stop whispering in her ear.
A criminal from across the tracks who can’t stop looking.
Old ghosts.
And old enemies.
She doesn't want a babysitter anymore, and if she ever finds out why I left town, she'll know why I'm not the best role model.
But I'm still the older one.
And she still needs supervision.
*Quiet Ones is suitable for readers 18+ and should be read after Falls Boys and Pirate Girls.

Playlist: Quinn and Lucas’s closeness to Jared, Jax, and Madoc (not only in their history but in the way these men shaped the adults they became) made this a very nostalgic experience for me, and I was heavily inspired by some of the playlists from the original series. You’ll notice some new additions but lots of throwbacks too! https://bit.ly/3L0RykR
Paperback will be released on Tuesday on Amazon! Signed copies will be available in my store around the end of the month!
loved these two lots 🤧 the tension, the slow burn, the emotional attachment, how possessive and jealous he was….cant wait to rr..feel like I haven’t fully processed what I read.
I HAVE A SERIOUS FEELING THAT THIS IS HUNTER'S BOOK. IF DYLAN DOESN'T END UP WITH HUNTER WE ARE GONNA HAVE SOME BAD BLOOD PENELOPE. HE DESERVES HER AND YOU KNOW IT TOO.
2. Dylan choosing Hunter ♥️ (ugh FOR ONCE, let the intense, quiet, broody guy (aka Hunter) get the girl! And not the mean, overbearing, bullying asshole dude (aka Kade) because quite frankly, that would just be like a remake of Bully and I've already read that book and tons more like it so I would pass if so. It would be so damn boring, predictable, and done-so-many-times if Dylan ended up with Kade 🙄 Besides, Hunter has that intensity and broodiness about him that you can’t help but find so damn hot! 🥵🔥 I totally fell for him in Next to Never and I am hella excited for him and Dylan to get it onnnn (and I would bet my curvy white ass it would be e.x.p.l.o.s.i.v.e. considering all of Hunter’s pent up energy 😏) and get their HEA 😍. -- Yes, I will only read Dylan's/Hunter's book if they do end up together. If Dylan ends up with someone else (aka Kade) then sorry, but I shall pull an Ari and say, "thank u, next!". I've read a thousand other books wherein the heroine chooses the alphahole and this gal is looking for somethin' new k? thanks bye.
3. Hawke. He is a very interesting man and I want more of him. And I mean… a VIRGIN HERO who actually CARES about who he’s bangin’ and is oh so picky on where he’s sticking his patootie in?? UGH COME TO MAMA! My ovaries are so ready to explode for this man 🥵🔥
4. Someone who will knock Kade off his spoiled, arrogant ass -- NOT Dylan though; Dylan belongs to Hunter in my most humble opinion. Lol
5. The awesome family/friends dynamics that PD always seem to nail.
And nine years waiting … for bland predictable dog shit??
What I wanted “ forbidden romance high chemistry with character growth secret relationship Quinn family being against it”
What I got “ very high fantasy play with a corny back drop of Lucas being a owner of the lame ass green street group no one gave a single fuck abt and this taking up half the plot more than Quinn & Lucas relationship”
Look, I’m not surprised I didn’t like this book since I really hated the first two I didn’t really have high hopes for this one. I actually went in with a really low expectations. So I’m not to bummed
Look when an author constantly post in her Facebook group that she has to bleed every ounce of brain power or she is not that excited to write or that it’s taking all her energy to write a book that you’re waiting almost 9 years for …. Yeah your expectations go down some.
This just wasn’t what I was looking forward to tbh the entire series has been a let down so I’m not too surprised this one bummed me out sm bc I was so excited for it … but when the author isn’t excited or doesn’t like what they’re writing… yeah it’s gonna suck”
Did this need the girl obsessed trope since Quinn was obsessed all her life and didn’t seem to have a personality ? No
Did Quinn need to be a virgin waiting for Lucas her whole life and pen making that her entire personality? … no
Should the author have worked more on Quinn and Lucas relationship and build chemistry & tension between them instead of her ridiculous green street plotline??? Yeah probably alas like I’ve said before when the author isn’t excited or doesn’t care, it shows in the writing.
Also can I just pls say that’s it’s glaringly obvious deacon and his brother work for Jared and madoc & jax .. the author literally posted that spoiler by accident when she released falls boys … gee I wonder how they can be around all the time .. 🙄
Apr 15, 2024 Update: So, I mentioned in my comment in Pen's fb group about Farrow and Noah looking at Quinn and MOTHER just replied with "@Jackie Neither one of them were looking at Quinn.😉 But that's all I'm saying for now." Now color me goddamn surprised and speechless. I MEAN, WHAT THE HELL?!
Apr 13, 2024 Update: QUINN AND LUCAS! It's age gap so that makes me even more excited. There's also that scene with Farrow and Noah looking at Quinn—for the love of God, please let us have Noah's book (Yes, that Noah from Credence) without him being in a love triangle or rectangle, or whatever really. Ugh.
Not loving the 8-years long crush and total lack of experience (Quinn’s words, not mine!) from the teaser but I’m holding out hope. I did like that Lucas didn’t recognize her right away and he’s clearly gonna have competition from Deacon (but apparently not Farrow or Noah, as Pen recently confirmed). If you know PD, then you already know the heroine will use that to her advantage at some point lol.
All we know is: PD still has no plans for Noah’s own story, Farrow won’t be a main lead in any of the 6 books, and this book will NOT be releasing in 2024. However, I’m excited that it will be a summer romance AND age-gap! Also something about a “night ride” maybe because Quinn likes to run at night but her brothers don’t like that 👀
This book being the definition of “I JUST MADE SOME BULLLLSHITTTT.” Quinn you’re a grown fucking woman with a rich family I’m not falling for your sob story. We don’t care. The woe is me shit look even more tone deaf and attention seeking next to Codi who has nothing. Lucas you’re pathetic. Your whole schtick is entirely unmoving and boring. Even your possible murder plot didn’t make you interesting. LOOK WITHIN!
All this my brothers will be so angry shit only for Madoc to be the only one with a real reaction. Jase too but nobody cares what grandpa has to say (ily still 🫂)
They told me I was wrong about the noahfarrowcodi throuple and yet? I was fucking right. As Always. Highlight of the book btw. 10/10 no notes. Gay people we love you. The one star is for them and for tommykade. Though small in appearance but fab nonetheless. Winslet plot. I’ve seen enough. We can’t keep doing this, it’s stupid. Deacon and Manas you’re both nonces.
Don't get me wrong, I like the family atmosphere and the fact that Quinn is so loved by her older brothers. I like Lucas's jealousy. I like that it's kind of insta-love and they get straight to the point because, God knows, TikTok messed with my head and I can't stand slow stuff anymore. I don't like that Quinn is sexually inexperienced and Lucas isn't. I totally hate it and I'm keeping it at 1 star because of it until something makes me change my mind. I also don't appreciate that she's been wearing his hat all these years. Silly girl.
Ever since reading the part when Lucas said goodbye to Quinn, I was rooting for them as a couple and I patiently waited for their story. And ever since Penelope Douglas started publishing the Hellbent series, I waited some more. Until I finally got their story now in Quiet Ones.
This book is a slow-burn romance par excellence. Penelope Douglas perfectly intertwined Lucas' story, Quinn's story, their love story and the ongoing suspense story (which started in book one and will continue throughout this series). It's like four different stories become a unique unit.
Quiet Ones starts very slow and only slowly picks up some speed. So don't get discouraged from its pace. Because once you've reached the third part of the book you'll be surprised by the speed you didn't realize it reached. I didn't wanted this book to end.
Lucas and Quinn's story is written in typical Penelope Douglas style, catching you from the first page to the last. Beside being suspenseful and thrilling, it deals with topics I didn't fully see coming. I loved Lucas part of the story and how he finally grew a pair and stood up for his mistakes in the past. I loved how I got to experience Quinn, how she feels around her family. It made my heart ache for her. And the way Penelope Douglas brought her to life in this book, I absolutely understood Quinn and I loved how she found a turnaround, standing up for herself, taking matters in her own hand.
The only thing I wished more for was more quality time between Lucas and Quinn. More of getting to know each other after being apart for 8 years. It seems like every time they are together something happens which interrupts their time together. I wished to see more of them growing together as a couple.
Nevertheless, Quiet Ones is the perfect next installment in the Hellbent series. If you've read the first two books in this series, you probably are addicted already and will get your next satisfying fix with this book.
I promise you, if I wasn't on a business trip, not having enough time to read, I would have read this book in 1 day. ;-)
“but deep down inside, he would give you anything you wanted and do anything you asked.”
when i say quinnlucas is my life i’m not lying. this book could feed families. I LOVED QUINN AND LUCAS SMM 🫶🏼🫶🏼 i cried, i laughed, i danced.. i had many epiphanies. my babies came back home to me 🤍
I'm not even really sure what to write for this review because if you haven't read the two books prior you'd have no clue what I'm talking about. But I feel like I've been waiting 20 years for this to come out. 🤣 And Penelope tortured her readers with the best teasers. We first met Lucas in Madoc's book when he was 8 and Quinn wasn't born yet. She comes around later and is the sister to both Jared, Madoc, and Jax. Believe me the family tree is a whole thing to explain. 😆 So we've been teased with this coupling for ages. They have a 12 year age gap, but don't worry it wasn't creepy. In their story Quinn is 21 and Lucas 33. I loved the first generation, and this second generation is also excellent. Yes, it's maybe a little YAish for people, but Penelope Douglas is good at this genre. Actually one of the only authors I'll trust to read this genre from. It's not just teenage hormones you're reading about. It actually has a plot. This whole series centers around the first generations kids finding their one, but also gang related plot. With high school and district rivalries. Along with urban legends. As we're getting closer to the end we see what's in store for both sides as a "ghost" out for revenge is plotting everyone's demise. Penelope Douglas is also the queen of slow burn and it can be frustrating, but oh so satisfying when it finally hits. Quinn and Lucas were hot and sweet as sugar at the same time. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a new series. I'd even start with the first generation which starts with Bully which probably around 10 years old now. Seriously loved this.
The tension, yearning, banter with an FMC learning her own voice and freedom and an MMC learning to lean on others and fix his past. I also loved the side characters and the mystery sub plot woven throughout. Full review to come!
Age gap Forbidden Tension Slow burn Mystery Suspense Spice
This is the third book in the Hellbent series and I highly recommend you read in order. Dual POV Contemporary/ NA romance.
3.5 ⭐️ really liked ql they were buzzy and i had sm fun reading but this was one of the cases where i liked the couple more than the book.. pd pls let the carnival tower, winslet stuff go.. but i loved quinn she’s truly a princess
