Three years ago, I fled the country to escape Arthur Rhodes' clutches. He was too raw. Too dangerous. Just too much. Now, I'm back to save my father's company. But I will never get lost in Arthur's maze again. Or that's what I tell myself.

Remorse is contemporary romance and the prequel story to The Rhodes series. It introduces the world of the British aristocracy in which the series will take place. It's a standalone story and has a happy ending.
Rina Kent is a New York Times, USA Today, and #1 bestselling author of all things dark romance. Better known for writing unapologetic anti-heroes and villains, Rina weaves tales of characters you shouldn’t fall for but inevitably do. Her stories are laced with a touch of darkness, a splash of angst, and just the right amount of unhealthy intensity. When she’s not busy plotting mayhem for her ever-expanding Rinaverse, she leads a private life in London, travels, and pampers her cats in true Cat Lady fashion.
The short story was good, At least it was good for me for a quick short read. This helps me somewhat to overcome my Book slump...
I think this book should be a full-length novel not a short novella, there is so much to this couple, their past and relationship dynamics, how they meet and know each other, there first time- just everything.. The author should show this things and not just their conclusion when they reunited after 3 years.
Their Son's story sounds interesting btw, I might give it a try later...
that was chaotic and the feelings changed every chapter that it seemed disconnected. This should’ve been longer but whatever. Apparently, the main characters here are dead in the first book 💀💀💀💀
Well, I see Rina Kent's books everywhere and pretty interesting reviews of her books. Some people love her and the others hate her books. I had this book on my Kindle and decided to check if it might be something for me. It's a short book and a prequel to a series, but I just wanted to see if I liked her writing style.
The book is strange because without reading the series (that wasn't published yet), I think I'm missing the backstory of the story, so I can only comment on the writing style. It's definitely flawless.
The 118 pages that I've read were not really a story, but a mix of events that didn't say much. I've read them, but if you ask me what it was about, I wouldn't be able to tell you. It was like a part of a story that I should have been reading before, but if the series is not published yet, that just doesn't make sense... 🤔 A very chaotic fragments of a story.
This a prequel to The Rhodes series. It's a novella about Eva and Arthur Rhodes, that's told from Eva's point of view. Eva and Arthur are Aaron's parents. Aaron is the protagonist of the first book in the series, Ruin.
The Good: * This is a second-chance romance and it's a trope I like. I think it was well done. I just wish there was more. We don't get to see the couple's first chance, only their second chance. * The little we got to see of the characters I liked. I like Aaron and his possessiveness and Eva and her determination. * I am so curious about Alexander and Rose. I love the childhood friends-to-lovers trope. I wish they had their own book. * It ends tragically for the characters like what happened with Dom and Cam in Lured (Eloise's parents.) Rina loves to kill the parents 😭😥 because in Rise of a Queen (Kingdom Duet, #2) it is revealed that Aaron and Tristan are the only surviving members after a fire wiped out the rest of their family. 😥😥💔 * I liked this prequel better the second time around because I read Lured and Crowed first (we meet Aaron in Crowed) so that got me interested in his story. I didn't really know about him before so I was like not really caring much about these characters, but now I'm fully invested, it's painful 😭💔
The Bad: Nothing.
Summary: Eva came back to London after moving 3 years ago to New York after the death of her mother and breaking up her relationship with Aaron Rhodes after he proposed to her. The relationship didn't work because he wouldn't let her in. He didn't even allow her to touch him during their intimate moments. Eva decided to cut her losses and left.
She came back to help her father with the family business who is going bankrupt. Although the only thing she can really do is try to find a rich husband who would save the family. Aaron and Eva meet at a party and Aaron wants to rekindle their relationship but Eva doesn't want to. She leaves and keeps going on dates that her father's assistant sets up for her. On one of those dates with a guy named Thomas, Aaron interrupts and to diffuse the situation Eva leaves with Aaron who is getting possessive of her. They end up going to one of the rooms in the hotel and spending intimate time together. This time Arthur allows Eva to touch him. It is said he doesn't like anyone to touch him but they never say why. He says he has been with many women but Eva is different to him. They talked and Arthur said he was scared to let Eva in, that's why he would shut her out. When he felt he was losing her he proposed but she said no because she didn't want that type of marriage. This time Arthur is willing to open up to Eva. Eva said she was also scared and still is unsure if she'll be staying in London. Arthur says he will give her time to think.
A week passes and Arthur keeps Eva by his side, bringing her to his family's estate. Every day he tells her about his work, his day, and is opening up. He decides to invest in Eva's father's company so they are not bankrupt and Eva doesn't have to look for a rich husband anymore. Rose (Eva's childhood friend) invites Eva to an important banquet that's being held by her father. The day arrives and Eva gets ready for the party. Once she arrives she overhears two women gossiping about the reason for the celebration and they say that Rose's father is announcing her engagement with Arthur Rhodes. Eva is heartbroken and goes out to the gardens in tears. Arthur goes to her but Eva is angry that Arthur cheated on Rose with Eva making her hurt her friend unknowingly. Eva can't stop crying and is brokenhearted. Arthur explains that he is not engaged to Rose, it was only something their parents had discussed but neither of them wanted. Rose, however, has been in love with Alexander (Arthur's brother) since they were children but he has never made a move. So she convinces Arthur to go along with it for a bit. The plan works and Alexander makes his move, and Rose is currently pregnant. The party had been to announce Alexander and Rose's engagement.
Arthur is a bit smug because the plan inadvertently worked on Eva too. She agrees, saying she doesn't want to see him married to another woman. She asks him to ask her the question again. He proposes once more and Eva says yes, that she will marry him. Eva then tells Arthur that she remembers everything they have always talked about and that they had agreed to name their son Aaron. She says she loves Arthur. The End.
For a prequel and for a book is free on Kindle Unlimited, Remorse isn’t bad. It all happens very quickly but we see the story of Eva and Arthur.
Arthur and Eva haven’t seen each other in years. The story begins with Eva returning.
This is a very short second chance romance Novella that also seems as though it’s the beginning of a larger series. I see that there is a Rhodes 1 with the other brother, probably larger I assume?
It’s not anything that you couldn’t live without im going to eh honest with you. If you’re bored and need a quick read to take up brain space this is a good choice. That’s what it was for me. I didn’t hate it however there isn’t much to love.
i felt like i didn't know what they are talking about. i mean the story jumped right in without an ''introduction'' just her coming back in the city after she left Arthur 🤷♂️🤦♀️ it's been months since i read the other books about this series which i don't recall now , so i would like a little introduction, caracter development, what happened before she leaved...how they end up together you know? i felt totally left out in a way, i dunno, doesn't make sense for me. Even with the things missing i still wouldn't like the 3 years apart , but still, what the heck happened?🤣
I read this in about 20 minutes and I'm very confused, I thought it was a prequel but it's not. It should have been longer with some more context but it is what it is! Super short read, leaves you wanting more!
The story of Eva and Arthur is really good! Hot and Steamy yet it underlines the crazy of the Rhodes family. Aaron has already been the name designated for their first born. I wish it had been just a bit longer, exciting read!!
In Ruin it's stated that Arthur kills Ava then himself now i really want to know why? Like he seems pretty morally grey in Remorse what makes him do that?
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
this is a short read second chance romance and i guess kind of okay but i didn't really feel the connection between the mcs. i know this is a novella, but there are short stories that can still bring so much emotions but this is not it.
eva and arthur were separated for three years and she went to NY. it seemed that arthur was guarded and he pushed eva away. and when she did walk away from him, he realized how much he loves her. so he sent men to watch over her throughout those three years. no info on what happened to them during their separation.
in the present time, her father's company is struggling, eva has no choice but to come back to london to help save it. once she got back, her father thrown a party to schmooze with potential investors and arthur cornered her in that party. there was no push and pull between them, they just fall back into their routine (i'm assuming it's their thing to be all over with each other).
since this is a novella, everything is fast paced and they got back together. it ended in a hfn where they are engaged.
Remorse by Rina Kent Eva is back after three years. And Arthur is determined to take what he believes has always been his, even if it means he has to buy into a certain failing business. He is intense, comes across, as dangerous, maybe even a bit deranged but still, there is something smoking hot about him. Eva is confused about the pull towards him and the mixed feelings she has, but can she ever be his? Ms. Kent has a certain writing style that draws you in, hooks you, and then there is no turning back. She weaves these stories with characters that keep you spellbound, always with a bit of mystery and a touch of suspense, and added sprinkle of darkness. This is a prequel, short and not a lot of time to build the characters. But I thought she did well with setting the stage for the beginning of a new series. Bring it on, I can't wait.
