I’ve always had a thing for fiery Scarlett Johnson. She has the cutest butt around town and that mouth. What I could do with that mouth! But as the daughter of a man I respected a great deal she was always out of bounds, but now he’s dead, and he has drawn up his will in such a way that his daughter needs to marry me, Zachary Black. I hold the cards to the thing that matters most to her. She wants it to be a pretend marriage, but I’m not known as the great big white shark in the circles I swim in for no reason. I tell her nothing is for nothing. The deal has to work both ways. She gets something and I get something. It's clear it kills her to do it, but she agrees. I thought I had the upper hand, the better part of the deal... but I hadn't counted on her ability to make me lose control.A Full Length Standalone Billionaire Romance With Guaranteed Happily Ever After.
This is a story about a fake marriage, but day by day Scarlett and Zachary transform that great physical attraction into something else. Without them wanting it, they become the most important person of the other. Zachary is my favorite character in this story. It is full of explicit sexual scenes and we see the evolution of the innocent Scarlett by leaps and bounds. It is not a deep love story, it is more a story of two people with a great sexual attraction that transforms into love, adorned with a bit of family drama. I liked it and have a fun reading.

Scarlett's ancestral home had been left to her evil and greedy stepmother by her father who had recently passed away. The only way she can save it is by marrying her father's business partner who owns the controlling interest in her family's company. In return for marrying her and helping get back her family home she will give him the remaining interest in the company. Zach had always wanted Scarlett since he first met her when she was eighteen. He agrees to the temporary marriage along with the stipulating that they share a bed until he tires of her.
Good story! I love how, even though the have an instant sexual chemistry right from the start, they begin to learn about each other and it grows into love.
When Scarlett Johnson's father dies, she finds out the house she was supposed to be keeping in the family was willed to his new wife and her stepmother. Scarlett knows her stepmother doesn't want her families home but the will doesn't give her a chance to purchase it herself. There is a loop hole though which comes with a pretend marriage with benefits and spending time with her fathers co-partner of his company, Zachary Black.
Zachary never planned on settling down and when Scarlett comes to his office making him an offer he can't refuse he takes her up on it. What neither of them expected was feelings to get involved and they are rapidly becoming the most important thing in each others life, will they be willing to admit it though?
Fast paced page turner. I liked everything about this story. Scarlett is feisty and Zachary tries to be strictly business but he finds it hard with Scarlett. Entertaining readjust in time for the holidays.

A top drawer story that promised and delivered an HEA. This author is an exceptional storyteller and it shows up beautifully in this book. The characters are complex and engaging. The chemistry between the characters and just not the main protagonists, are juicy, sassy, and just down right complex. This was truly an enjoyable book to snuggle down with. Definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment and pleasure. I am leaving this review for your consideration. Peace.
Honestly, I did not enjoy this book at all. This book was so boring and flat that I found myself skimming it to finally get to the end. This was literally an erotica "covered up" with some fluff which wasn't even good. The characters are one dimensional and flat as heck, there is no plot, no story, this book is about pretty much nothing. They have sex and some more sex and realized how WOW SO IN LOVE THEY ARE. Then the MC gets pregnant and they get the house and it's a happily ever after. Barf. No development whatsoever and the writing is horribly juvenile and felt very very rushed (with many typos). I really am surprised that the book has such a high rating, I expected so much more and was VERY disappointed. Will not be reading from the author again.

Scarlett is forced to find a man to marry fast because after her father's death she finds that he has left her beloved Manor House to his new wife. Zachary has worked with her father for a long time and even though she doesn't trust him, she doesn't have a choice but to marry him. He pretends that this marriage is one of convenience for both of them, but the truth is that he has wanted her for years and now he gets to have her.
This is my first River Laurent book and I have to say I'm not disappointed, in fact, I'm kind of impress because I wasn't expecting to see this trope (fake marriage) developed in the way the author did. The writing was well done, the characters compelling, no out of character behavior was displayed, and the plot was so interesting that I couldn't stop reading.
I appreciate when a trope that I know, like this one, is presented in a way that surprises me a little bit. Admittedly, I'm surprised, not for the originality of the work itself but by the fact that this author managed to keep me engaged when others couldn't. That takes some skill because I read too much and too many romances that finding books that can fill these little details is just fantastic.
Like I've said previously, the writing was well done. I did not see any mistakes or problems while I was reading, which was great. There wasn't much world building necessary either because this was a contemporary romance so the setting did not need much explaining, but the part that was explained, the background, was great.
I would recommend this book to those that love the "fake marriage" trope in a contemporary setting. I would also like to say that I will be reading the backlog of River Laurent because I'm intrigued as to see what else is out there.

Scarlett could not believe what was in the will that he left the house and all the property and woods behind it to his gold digger of a wife Victoria. The house was always supposed to be her house her mom had past it to her and her sister since it had been in the family for hundred of years. Scarlett finds out a way to get her house back the attorney told her she would have to marry Zach Black because he owned 41% of her father’s business. It was a way to get her moms house back before her step mother would sell it. Zach decides he would take her up on her offer it would be a good transaction for both she would get her house and he would control the business. Scarlett moves into Zach’s house to make it look better. Scarlett and Zach finally have sex and she didn’t knowhow long this all would last but she didn’t want it to end. Meanwhile Dahlia his secretary finally makes her move on Zack. Scarlett was coming to his office to deliver files and when she opens the door there is Dahlia with her clothes barely on. Scarlett though had heard Zack tell Dahlia to get dressed he wasn’t interested. Scarlett is falling deeper in love with Zack and she has a feeling he is falling for her too. They got married and they thought that everything would out but, things are not always what they seem. Excellent Read and Great Characters
WOW! I really loved this book, it’s sassy, sexy, and throw in a hot AF alpha male and you’ve got an amazing story. Scarlett finds out the hard way that her father didn’t leave her childhood home to her in his will he left everything to her stepmother with stipulations for her to follow if she wants the property back in her possession. Little did she know that she would have to wait until she was twenty-one to get her inheritance or that she would have to marry Zach Black to get it. This can’t be real can it? No way her father would do this to her, would he? Zach has always had a thing for Scarlett, but being friends with her father, put her out of reach and not that he’s gone, well, all bets are off and he’s going for it. Little did Scarlett know that Zach had 51% shares to her sisters 49% and they all needed each other to keep their childhood home. Scarlett has a proposal for Zach and he jumps at the chance, but can something that starts off fake become real? Can you keep your feelings in check or will you give in to temptation? I guess you will need to read this to find out how this all ends. Loved it, recommend it.
Let's Pretend by River Laurent Scarlett and her sister Lori are at their father's lawyer for the reading of the will, along with step-mother Victoria. Things are not going good with there stepmom, but the girls know Victoria is only in it for the money. The one thing that the girls want more than anything is there Mothers home that has been in the family for over six hundred years. Their father gave the house to Victoria and everything else goes to the girls. They can not even buy the house because Victoria is so evil to them. So Scarlett decides to get in touch with the business partner Zachary Black, he owns fifty-one percent of the company and very rich. I love this story and would highly recommend this book. It is so entertaining and very hard to put down. I love the twist and turns of the book and would give this book a higher rating if I could. I really enjoyed this book, quick and steamy. As much as the plot was very obvious I still really loved it, which is why I requested the book to start with.
I can definitely relate to Scarlett on some levels but I can also relate to Zachary... Who let's be fair is totally hot... I don't remember anythi g about tattoos in his description but he's 'shown' on the cover with them... I do love a good bad boy with tattoos... Yum
The pacing felt a little off for me, it seemed to skip so much time, which I find annoying, since it means we don't get to see the character development... It just shows us them doing something out of character, which is just odd.
I'm definitely interested in reading the next book, Pretend For Me

So, this is another fake marriage type book, but so much more than just that. Scarlett lost her Mother, then her Father and now it looks like she'll lose the family house that's been in the family for 600 years. She has one option and only one way to save it - she has to marry her father's business partner. Luckily, he's quite the hottie and not short of a few pennies himself. A typical alpha with a revolving door of women. That is until Scarlett turns up and changes everything for him. The attraction between the two is set up before the idea of marriage, making it all the more believable when the two become more than just fake. I read this within a few hours as I couldn't put it down. It's sexy, steamy, bold and has the HEA we're all after.
Scarlett is shocked when upon her father’s death, she and her sister learn that their inheritance, an old family home which has been in their possession for 600 years, is going to their stepmother. In an effort to thwart her selling the house out from under them, the lawyer suggests her marrying Zachary Black, a well known and ruthless businessman.
However, when they agree to this fake marriage, the lines start blurring to the point that fake feels real!
A good story that is compelling and throws in a few curveballs. Thank you to Booksprout and River for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest review.

Let's Pretend by River Laurent is my first book by this author. I liked it very much. The writing is really good and the story very steamy.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When Scarlett's father does she learns that the family home went to his widow. One way or another she's deterministic get that house back. Even if she has to marry Zachary Black. What starts out a a fake marriage turns into something neither is willing to let go of. I enjoyed reading this book from beginning to end. River is one of my favorite authors and I'm excited to read what's next.
Scarlett's stepmother was so awful I wasn't sure how far I would get into the book. Thankfully she wasn't in it much. Scarlett is about to lose the home she grew up in. In order to save it she marries Zach. At first it was just a pretend marriage but of course by the end it was so much more.
I enjoyed reading Zach and Scarlett’s story. The land has been in her family for years. Her dad gives it to his new wife. Scarlett has to get it and the only way is to marry Zach.
I really liked her first couple of books but the last several are boring and quite frankly juvenile. I had hoped things would get back on track and the writing would improve but sadly nope. Despite interesting premises, the execution just doesn't live up to expectations. I'm not going to bother any more.

Scarlette can't believe that her evil step-mother has control over her family house after her father dies. For some reason, her father listed his current wife to get the lands, rather than Scarlette who WANTS to have her house! The only way for her to work around her step-mother? Marry a man who Scarlette has pined over the years (though she refuses to admit that) but knows nothing about.
Zach has built his empire by buying out businesses on the verge of bankrupting and making a fortune from their loses. He has dealt with a lot of issues, but having Scarlette come to ask him to marry her so she can get her house was not something he saw coming. But Zach has always felt a strong attraction to Scarlette, so this shouldn't be too much of a hardship for him. He's basically getting the one thing he's been denied of for the past few years.
The plan is in motion, but neither Zach nor Scarlette could predict how the ending would turn out...
This was a pretty good novel! I liked it very much, and it was a very fast read! Both of the characters are likable and the attraction between the two bursts into flames whenever they are around each other. It almost makes it unbelievable that they hadn't hooked up far sooner than this chance encounter, by the way they react to one another.
I was able to predict the ending on how everything would go. This isn't a mystery, but it was very obvious by the way things were going.
I think many readers will enjoy this novel, and I may keep an eye out for more novels by River Laurent!
This book started out with an interesting premise: two daughters confronting the stereotypical evil stepmother at the reading of their father's will. Stepmother gets the family home and property even though it was promised to the oldest daughter, Scarlett, and plans to sell it at the first opportunity. Scarlett does not have the money to purchase it and thinks all is lost until her attorney tells her she may have a chance to get the house - marrying the majority shareholder.
Zach Black met Scarlett several years earlier when her father sold him the majority ownership in his company. He was always attracted to her so when she comes to him with a proposal to pretend to be engaged, he jumps at the chance.
At this point, I had to suspend all pretense of realism and just go with the story. He immediately has her move into his mansion and expects her to sleep with him, which she eagerly does despite being a virgin. Even though she is portrayed as "naive in the ways of pleasure" she doesn't hesitate to be-bop her newly de-flowered self into the nearest adult shop and go on a shopping spree buying everything from lube to vibes to bondage items. Scarlett must be a super-fast learner who has let go of all inhibitions!
All things considered, Zach ends up being to buy Scarlett's childhood home for her by a backdoor plan with a company he decided to save rather than take over and sell off. Then they decide that they no longer want to pretend but want to make their marriage official.
Not really interested in reading more by this author. So much more could have been done with this story simply by giving the characters some depth.

Scarlett is left devastated when her father dies and leaves her mother's ancestral home to her witch of a step-mother. The only way she can save the home, she promised her deceased mum she would always keep it, is to marry the one man that stirs her soul, even if he is a play boy.
Zachary Black has always been attracted to his business partner's daughter. But out of respect, has always kept his distance from. Now though, she's presenting him with the biggest business deal of his life, to pretend marry her. But what if he doesn't want to pretend...
I just couldn't get on with this book. It didn't take me long to read because really, nothing much happened. This felt like it was trying to be a little Cinderella esque with the wicked step-mother. I struggled to like Scarlett. Yes she'd lost both parents which is tragic but I equally found it hard to like her when she's struggling to fill her days doing nothing because she didn't have to work for a living. I also struggled with the notion that she would leave her 16 year old sister, Lori to live on her own. I find that hard to believe. The author refers to Lori as a 16 year old but then she's driving - not in the UK! You have to be 17 to get your driver's license. And then there is the cliché that Scarlett is a virgin and sleeps with Zach so quickly...a little unrealistic.
The whole thing just felt a little 'easy' - they meet, they have tons of sex and fall in love. End.
Talk about feeling betrayed. Scarlett and her sister Lori knew that their mother’s home, Wooten Hall, would always be theirs. However, at the passing of their father, they learned that he left the house to his gold-digger of a wife Victoria. In order to spite the women, Victoria expressly states that she will not sell the house back to them which prompts Scarlett to figure out another way to gain ownership of her ancestral home. When the attorney mentions that there may be a way, Scarlett is all ears until she hears that it involves Zach, a man who worked with her father. Pushing her feelings aside, Scarlett does what she feels she must to gain ownership of Wooten Hall; even if that means marrying Zach. Zach is not one for “doing relationships,” yet something about Scarlett has him rethinking his position. When Scarlett comes to his office to make a deal and is willing to throw in her shares of her father’s company to give Zach everything he needs, he is willing to go along with it. The longer they are together things begin to change and what started out as a mutually beneficial agreement may become more than either one anticipated. This is one book that has all the feels that pull at a reader. It is a story of love, growth, thinking outside the box and achieving your heart’s desire. I highly recommend. I volunteered to read a copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
Oh my I LOVED this read about a young woman, Scarlett, who just lost her dad and her house that’s been in her mother’s family for centuries. Her evil stepmom inherits it and Scarlett will do anything to get it back, including turning to a man wh***, who’s ruthless in the business world. They strike up a deal for her to get the house back and Zach gets Scarlett as part of the deal when they marry. What happens next is a read that is not to be missed ! Oh my my my what a read with steam and a twist near the end that had me cheering and whopping out loud for both Zach with his new ways and Scarlett, for getting more than she ever dreamed. I was a bit leery about this read considering Zach’s reputation, but the author pleasantly surprised me and I fell in love with him almost right away...LOVED IT! I LOVED LOVED the no drama between them, the trust, the honesty, no miscommunication, the protectiveness, EVERYTHING that happened between them and how it was handled...LOVED IT and was quite refreshing that it didn’t follow all the other reads out there. If you want a true romance between two people who actually deserve each other and don’t hide from their feelings...this is it !!!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy and expressed my honest opinion*
When Scarlett's father dies she learns that the home that was her mother's home was left to her step=mother. This upsets her because this home was in her mom's family for years and should've been left to her and her sister. She asked the lawyer if there was a way they could buy the property from their step-mother only to learn that there was a clause. If she married Zach a man that own a majority of her father's business they would be able to stop her step-mother from selling the property. However this doesn't mean they could get her to sell it to them. Zach has always been attracted to Scarlett but never really thought he had a chance but now that she needs him he plans to use that to his advantage. Can he convince her to stay with him for real even if they can't get her family home?
This is an amazing story that will draw you in from the first page. The chemistry between them is off the charts hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

Scarlett Johnson's life becomes a nightmare when her father leaves what should have been hers to her stepmother. She must now she must unite forces with Zach Black, a powerful, rich and well-known womanizer. All she needs is a pretend marriage to get back the house that has been in her family for generations. Will they be able to part ways when all the transactions are finished, or will the sham become something more?
This was a very fast read, about 3 hours. It was cute and progressively got sexier and then flat out hot. I needed to stop reading in between just to get my wits about me. (fans with hand) Scarlett seemed very innocent but very open-minded, while Zach was clearly experienced and knew how to get under her skin. I like how their relationship progressed to something beyond sex. Though all things considered the sex happened rather quickly but I liked that it was descriptive enough for you to imagine it. All in all the book was entertaining, there's no major villain to destroy, no plotline trying to destroy their happily ever after which was a nice change of pace.

This is a fantastic read and it’s Scarelett’s and Zach’s story. Scarlett and her sister and her wicked witch stepmother are at her fathers lawyers office for the reading of his will, the house that has been in Scarlett’s mother’s family for over 600 years has been given to the horrible stepmother and Scarlett was absolutely furious. The horrible stepmother refused to sell it to Scarlett so when the wicked stepmother left the office her fathers lawyer had an idea, he told Scarlett that her father sold 51% of the business to Zachery Black so she needs to marry him to stop her wicked stepmother from selling her home. Scarlett goes and asks Zach if he will marry her and he’s shocked at first then he had a big smile come over his face he’s always wanted Scarlett but she was too young and her father kept her away from him after all he has a bad reputation as a playboy. So Zach tells Scarlett to go and move into his house and to be prepared for her wifely duties. Fantastic story and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
Wowza! This book was hot! My first book by River Laurent and it definitely won’t be the last. I couldn’t put this story down. I was drawn in on the very first page and didn’t stop until I was finished.
Scarlett is about to lose her entire childhood home, one that has been in her family for over 600 years. And she will do anything to keep it in her grips. Even if that means she has to marry Zachary Black.
Zachary Black isn’t known as an angel in fact he’s known as a playboy. But when Scarlett comes barging into his office with a proposition, for some reason he can’t say no.
And so begins their fake marriage...she’ll get what she needs from him and he’ll being having fun with her. Until feelings start to take root and their fake marriage becomes so much more.
We follow as these two fall and they fall hard. Both getting what they want in the end....their forever.
Highly recommended.
I was given a free advanced copy of this book by Book Sirens in exchange for my honest and voluntary review. All thoughts and opinions are those of my own.
Let's Pretend is the story of Scarlett who has lost both her mother and now her father. When they read the will she finds out the one thing she wanted the most, the home she was raised in was left to her stepmother, whom she despises. The only way Scarlett thinks she can get the mansion is by marrying Zach Black and give him her share of the stocks of her father's business in exchange for him to purchase the mansion.
Zach and Scarlett's father were in business together but her dad made it plain that Zach was to stay far away from his daughter, but the moment Scarlett and Zach laid eyes on each other there was a connection. Scarlett gets Zach to agree to marry him in exchange for her shares of the business for him to purchase her mother's old home.
I loved this story and how Scarlett's presence in Zach's life slowly makes him want to be a better man and the way she believes in him fills a void he has been longing for. It also doesn't hurt that the chemistry between them is super hot.
This is my first book by River Laurent and it won't be the last.
This book was fantastic! I loved the characters. The chemistry was off the charts! Scarlett Johnson's father has just died. At the reading of the will Scarlett and her younger sister Lori find out that the home that has been in her mother's family for 600 years was willed to her father's current wife, Victoria. Victoria is a gold digger and hates the girls. Victoria hates the house but will burn it to the ground before making a deal with Scarlett. Scarlett's father had a business which Scarlett learns her father had only a 49%stake in. The other 51%is owned by Zachary Winston Black. Zachary is an asset stripper and a complete womanizer. But he gorgeous just the same. There is a clause about the house and grounds that states anyone jointly that owns more than 75%of the business shares can stop the sell of the house. So Scarlett doing the only thing she can do goes to see Zachary and offers him a proposition...marry her!
