Scarlett lost her family to an accident at the age of 17 then her fiancé a few years later. She did just about everything to drown the pain suffering and voices in her head until she meets Tobias one night on her way out of a bar. Tobias was held captured and tortured for 14 years until he was rescued. Since then he has become one of the greatest assassins. While out looking for a distraction he runs into Scarlett and that gets his attention immediately. Scarlett has had a rough few years since her family died and she is all alone. I thought that both of these characters were crazy. This was my first time reading this author and I felt at times that this book was too long at times. Tobias need for closure and vengeance will put Scarlett in danger. He doesn't think that he has a heart, but his life changes once he meets Scarlett. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Another awesome book by Bry Ann! This story is so dark, but so well written.
Tobias has such a dark past and has no family but Anatoli. Anatoli saved Tobias when he was a teenager and has been with him ever since. They work together and are as close as brothers, they’re both assassins. Albeit, they aren’t what you would normally think of when you think of assassins, at least Anatoli isn’t, he has a conscience. Tobias feels the need for closure on his past and he needs to find a way to get to the men who destroyed him as a child. He’s bored with the way things currently are in his life and is looking for something to occupy his mind. His past made him a man who needs pain and chaos in his life to keep him sane.
Scarlett, a young woman who was orphaned at the age of 17. Her whole family is taken away from her during her Senior year of high school. This one incident changed her, and she now lives her life on her own terms. She’s had a rough few years since her family died and she is all alone. She lives life on the edge and is unapologetic about how she lives her life. She needs the edge to feel like she’s alive. The only person who seems to care about her is the bar tender at the local bar she hangs out at. He’s like a surrogate big brother who watches out for when he can.
Tobias’ need for closure and vengeance will put Scarlett in danger. He’ll find the heart that he thinks he doesn’t have, and his life will change a lot after he meets Scarlett. Her life will change as well, but they both have to learn to trust and care before they can find their HEA.
I loved Tobias and Scarlett’s story. I was so angry at Tobias for most of this book though and wanted to punch him in the face. The characters in this book are characters from Bry Ann’s Saving Her Series.
I loved the way that Scarlett and Tobias fight the attraction they have for each other so hard, but they don’t have a chance. They are both damaged and both have their demons and nightmares, but together they can find some peace.
I love the first paragraph of the Epilogue, “I don’t think our story ends in a happily ever after. I wouldn’t call this that. Our starts were way too fucked up to ever end up happy. Life’s a ruthless game”. I love so much of the epilogue because it really shows who Scarlett is. She knows that life isn’t perfect and that even though she has found someone to share her life with she won’t be healed, but she will be cared for and fulfilled by that one person who gets her.
I give this story a 5-star review and am so looking forward to Anatoli’s story. Please hurry with this one, I absolutely love Anatoli and cannot wait to read his story. I highly recommend this story to any reader who likes dark, depraved stories with just a touch of sweet to make you fall in love with the Hero and a sassy heroine who knows who she is and doesn’t apologize for her actions.

WOW! This was such a unique story that had me hooked Tobias (and Anatoli) and Scarlet and their volatile relationship. Definitely going to check out all the books by this author.

If you read Saving her series, you know who Tobias is. In the series he is ruthless killer, a monster capable of anything for money... In this book, we came across Tobias, and we have a his whole story, his motives... Upon reading the story,you will understand why Tobias is the way he is, his every action has a motiv, whether it's good or not. You can't expect someone be good, with morals the way Tobias was brought and lived,not existed, his early years. Yes, he is a monster, but even a monster has limits.... and that't shows us that Tobias is not destroyed yet... When it comes to Scarlett, our little, fierce yet so fragile female lead, his true colors come to surface. Layer by layer we see bad, the reason beyond that bad, evil, but there is good too. Yes, Tobias thought that he was beyond repair, but that woman, Scarlett, show him his true nature, the nature of survivor.. This is yet the darkest and steamest book of Bry Ann, yet after reading this book you have an amazing feeling that that life puts everything in its place, that love and loyalty can change even a monster... Even a monster is capable of love.

Tobias is one of those characters that you should just hate but can’t. With the life he has lived it made him who he is. This is not your typical second chance story. It’s dark, twisted with a few (or more) dashes of laughter. This author manages to keep my interested in each of her stories from start to finish. I can’t wait for Desperation (Assassin Brothers Duet book 2) 🖤🖤

Dark and emotional, this book will fulfill all your needs. This book is full of traumatic events and some triggers, but it is worth the ride. It’s the story of two broken people not expecting the ride life will take them on to heal.
I loved the emotional connection between Scarlet and Tobias and how they helped heal each other. Their fight against each other but the pull is too much.
This author has the amazing ability to make her character feel real, like you could meet them on the street and know them. That makes this entire story even more wonderful and emotional, you can't help but become engaged in this ride.
This is another hit for me and if you want more, read the Saving Her series by this author, you will get more out of this story; though it us a standalone. I received an ARC and I am leaving an honest review.

This book left me broken. I was a wreck while reading this story and even more after.
The emotions coming from Tobias and Scarlett were just so intense, the need to scream or cry was there all the time. They have both been through so much.
Tobias is dark, think of himself as a monster who can’t be saved. His past hunts him and he wants revenge.
Scarlett has not had the best youth, with the sudden tragic accident and her ex.
I really enjoyed reading about Tobias and seeing that sometimes is mask can fell down and just for a few minutes you have the Tobias who care.
Even the darkest monster can come alive into the light. No one is lost, you just need the right person to help you see the thing differently.
I can’t wait to know Anatoli’s story because it must be really interesting seeing how the book started.

Great read! Tobias is all dark and alpha, Scarlett has only felt loss and disappointment. Both have nightmares and traumatic pasts that seem to bond them together These two are perfect for each other from night one. She craves the darkness within him. Tobias feels the need for revenge, putting Scarlett's life in danger. I don't want to add to much detail as to what happens, I want u the new reader to experience it like I did. Amazing characters, amazingly written a must read for sure! Even tho I just found this author recently I can't get enough of her books!

This is a phenomenal book! Bry Ann has done an exceptional job developing her characters. The depth of emotions are exceptional. It captured me from the first page. The beautifully damaged Scarlett seeks sex to make her forget. The handsome, scarred and tortured Tobias finds Scarlett and from then on it's an edge of your seat, hold your breath book. I loved it and cannot wait for her next book. Read it today!!!

Oh wow! A shocker in so many ways!!
Bry Ann does it again! Scarlet and Tobias are amazing characters!! They both have such deep, traumatic pasts which influence their present. There was a point where I wanted to stop reading as I was afraid of what was to come, but in Bry Ann's typical way, she wouldn't let me.....so keep reading I did!! I was shocked and bewildered and couldn't believe what was happening! I felt sadness, anger, heartbreak, frustration and disbelief.
In amongst these emotions, Tobias and Scarlett's stubbornness, banter and little quips between each other also had me chuckling quite a few times. I loved this story and the perfect, unique ending for these characters......not what I was expecting!! I can't wait for the next book to hear more about Anatoli. Highly recommended.

Very good start to this series. While the subject matter was dark, I didn't feel like the characters were. Did they have Demons? Yes, but the also had redemptive qualities and could be empathetic. It was nice to watch how they wrestled their demons with the other.

Amazingly tragic!
This is definitely no sunshine, rainbows and unicorns. This is raw, gritty, and real. What would you be driven to do or become if you suffered from childhood until 14 years old? How well would you hold up losing your whole family and then your fiancé to suicide. All those scenarios leave a mark on a persons soul. I love how two broken souls come together to not fix each other but help one another cope with their own demons! Loved this book!

Finally, after silently begging in a corner for Tobias's book, it finally came! And it didn't disappoint one bit! Bry Ann brings to us a great read, with characters that will claw themselves into your mind and heart. Now lets get onto this book review.
From the first flashback into Tobias's past, you can understand how messed up this character would become. He is a broken and damaged man who is out for revenge, with hardly any morality. By the end of the book you are left speechless and in love with him.
We can't forget our leading lady, Scarlett, this woman isn't a saint anymore. After dealing with a tradgedy late in her teen years, she is left broken. Now, she is a wild, powerful, and sexy lady who is trying to outrun her demons. The most beautiful thing about her is the way she is able to develop into someone who can learn to live with the pain and still glow.
Throughout this story, the author was able to bring light to muliptle issues that people overlook in everyday life. Bry uses her experience and knowledge from her daily life to provide us with torn characters who are given realistic lives to live.
By the end of the book the characters have grown but still stay true to themselves. Thankfully Tobias does not change into a soft man, but he does learn to live with emotions. Scarlett proves to us, especially women, that we are in control of ourselves. We can have the power to be strong and live as we choose.
Each book by Bry Ann brings us more than just a beautiful romance. They bring to the readers lessons, tools, ensight, and love. This book did all this plus more, truly a 5 star worthy book!

This is her best book yet! Let me tell you, I cried. I mean I full on bawled my eyes out. I felt their pain, their inner struggles, their anger and desperation. I struggled with this book, my heart was at war with my brain and my emotions ruled all. Bry Ann absolutely writes the best broken characters. I loved this story and if you like great characters with tragic traumatic pasts you will love Scarlet and Tobias’ story. It is a dark rollercoaster filled with all the emotions. Even though it made me cry it also had some parts that left me laughing. The witty banter between Tobias and Scarlet made them feel more real. I can’t wait to read about Anatoli in the next book.
