Have you ever wondered what lies behind every click you make on the Internet? What if the data from your online life is used to change your own future? As the Internet shapes a new era, three corporations become the rulers of a virtual world called Etherea. Mr. Davis, the CEO of Apollo Corporations, will have to fight against two unprecedented enemies that seek supremacy in the universe. While the story awaits you to pick a side, the physical world witnesses the space race between the U.S. and China. The imminent Great War will establish a new age in the whole universe as the discovery of a New Earth approaches. The fate of humans and non-humans relies on the survival, or destruction, of The Three Virtual Greatnesses. Innovative technologies and the modernization of war and politics will define new forms of colonization in outer space. Who will be able to inhabit the New Earth? What will happen to the ones that remain here? In a universe of infinite equations, only one algorithm will be able to stop the physical, and the virtual, Great War. The Three Virtual Greatnesses is the first book of The Code trilogy by Willyam Thums.
Willyam Thums, a PhD student in Literature and Cultural Studies at Georgetown University, grew up in the south of Brazil and lives in Washington, D.C. He writes about the erosion, and transformation of power and politics in the digital age.
He has released the first book of The Code series, The Code and the Three Virtual Greatnesses, and is currently working on the second volume.
Willyam loves animals and nature, and is interested in how artificial intelligence has been shaping life in the past decades.
This book is the first of a planned trilogy about computer code and a virtual world. This category is very popular subject wise and a number of futurist authors have written about this and their books are quite good because of their technology backgrounds. This book is actually more like a fantasy. It is quite ambitious, but I had trouble with some of the world building since I have two degrees in IT. Any IT good IT director will tell you that no system is hackproof. Black hat hackers will hack systems for fun and profit. Companies quietly hire hackers to test their systems so they can fix vulnerable points in their systems. The parts about a secret compartment with only one key and a special area aren't plausible for me. Internet and computer wise there is a lot of competition, but not in this fantasy world. LA without traffic lights is definitely not plausible. Australia has 25 million people, roughly the same amount as Texas. California has 40 million people, and LA County has over 11million alone. LA traffic is similar to China and India.
While the main focus is the code and virtual reality world, other elements are added including spies and political intrigue. The proofreading didn't catch many of the grammatical errors. Character dialog is not noted with enclosed parenthesis as is typical in writing, so it was difficult for me to follow the speech dialogs. It would be beneficial for an English and computer major to consult to aid the world building and content focus. A great deal of thought went into this work and it shows. It is an interesting idea, but more will be needed to stand out in a crowded field.
Recomendo a leitura
