You will meet a dragon who will eat your heart. This is the fortune young Faith Boscombe believes she is told by a fortune teller at the Scarborough fair. But Caleb Brayden, the boy who finds her and returns her safely to her governess after Faith runs off through the fair in tears, gives her a dragon amulet as protection. He's made up a fable about the power of the amulet, but when he happens to return to the Scarborough fair ten years later, this time as a battle-hardened general in the king's dragoons, he realizes their fortunes are bound to each other... and so are their hearts.
Meara Platt is happily married to her Russell Crowe look-alike husband, and they have two terrific children. She lives in one of the many great towns on Long Island, New York, and loves it, except for the traffic. She has traveled extensively, occasionally lectures and finds time to write. Her favorite place in all the world is England’s Lake District, which may not come as a surprise since many of her stories are set in that idyllic landscape, including her Romance Writers of America Golden Heart award winning story.
❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋 Sweet . Romantic. This is a beautiful read , one you need to curl up with . Meara Platt writes these types of books so well , no one does it better .
Kaleb finds a girl crying at a fair and becomes her saviour, one she never forgets , she never takes off the dragon necklace he bought for her to keep her safe . When he meets her ten years later, they rekindle the fire the two unknowingly lit many years earlier.
Faith has worn her necklace religiously, maybe one day she’ll meet Sir Kaleb again , one day he’ll come back for her. When a troop of Dragoon’s stay on her uncles property she falls for the commander, even though she is already betrothed , is it a coincidence that the commanders name is Kaleb too , or is it Destiny.
I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Fofo... Ameii.. Happy reading, and until the next reading..
Scarborough, England 1800's This series so far has been so wonderful. Meara Platt continues with a heartwarming story that just made me sigh so many times! I adore when the characters meet as children, whether by chance or grow up as friends. A chance meeting at the Scarborough fair, young Caleb Brayden heard a little girl crying and went to help her find her governess. Lady Faith, eight years old has been given her future by a fotune teller who says she will meet a dragon who will eat her heart. Telling her he is a dragon slayer and she will be safe, he gives her a dragon amulet and that will give her protection. I was so enchanted with how he charmed her. But the fortunes of fate step in and ten years later he returns to the town with a troop of Dragoon's who stay on her uncle's property. She had worn the amulet knecklace and often thought of Sir Caleb, which seemed silly since she was an adult. Caleb has returned as the commander of the troops and recognizes Faith who has grown into a beautiful woman. She falls for him, not really realizing he is her Sir Caleb. Can these two truly find love and end up together? Will she choose him not realizing who he is? A delightful story that made my heart smile as I turned the last page. Now to just find that fortune teller!
I am a great fan of Mrs Meara Platt, so I preorder any of her release to come. This one is no exception. As I have read no other books in this series, I can’t say more about it but I did read Mrs Platt earlier stories related to the hero, still it is a standalone read. This book has all the elements I love in the author’s work but is it because of the length but I did not connected with the characters as I usually do. Caleb and Faith are fated lovers, since their childhood they were destined to be together, a fortune’s teller predicted it. Caleb is taken from the beginning with Faith while she is otherwise engaged elsewhere. Why she fights their attraction. And as it turns her betrothed-to-be is an arse, she decided to give Caleb a chance and wants to get to know him. The story was sweet, lightly sensual and very romantic but I am not a great adept of insta-love. I do prefer a little fight or a shift in the protagonists. But I liked they shared their thoughts and it was cute to see their life together or apart beyond the wedding day. A lovely and romantic tale with a touch of paranormal of fated mates.
So wonderful to read the no where love wins against all odds! This was such a heartwarming tale, it makes you smile! I loved it! One of my favorite authors! Great read!
A story of charm and enchantment set in the small town of Scarborough.
Prologue: Caleb Brayden, a 14-year-old boy finds a little girl on the fairgrounds while there with his brother and cousins who are slightly older than he. He leaves the boys and goes out of his way to soothe a weeping girl of eight who had been separated from her nanny. She ran away from the fortune teller’s tent because of her future laid out in her palm.
Young Caleb purchased a talisman for the girl, saying she should wear it all the time and she would be protected from dragons, for that is what the fortune teller predicted—she would be eaten by a dragon. Locating the nanny and taking a side trip to the fortune teller to tell her she shouldn’t scare young girls, he joins his brother and friends. The episode is quickly forgotten.
Story: Fifteen years have past. For Faith she had never forgotten the kind boy, Sir Caleb, who soothed a crying child making her feel safe by purchasing a necklace pendant of a dragon. She never took the amulet off.
Fate intervenes; General Caleb Braden is back in Scarborough. Not as a young boy, but a man highly respected. Upon arriving he sees the fair is back in town triggering the memory of a pretty little girl. His mission involved a meeting with Faith’s father, Lord Bascombe. Caleb finds his niece still in Scarborough — an angelic person in place of a little girl. Indeed, a woman on the verge of marriage to a titled lord.
Caleb is drawn to Faith’s pureness of heart and beauty, a woman who hadn’t figure into his future, but snags his heart.
He grapples with his feelings and eventually decides to try to win the lady’s hand, right from under her present suitor. Time is not on his side for he will soon be reassigned elsewhere. Last, but not least, he must convince Faith that she is destined for him while not exposing that he is the boy all those years ago whom she knew and seemed to put on a pedestal. He wants her to choose the man—not the boy.
Caleb and Faith are pure hearts who find happiness nudged along by a fortune teller’s reading. It is an easy-read, very little violence, with a charming happily-ever after which I enjoyed very much.
In many ways, this book falls into two series. Firstly the Fortunes of Fate series that it is listed under and then secondly it follows a member of the Brayden family, who have been cropping up in a few of Meara Platt's books now. I have to admit that I know little about the Fortunes of Fate series and I haven't read any of other books in the series. I have, however, read some of the other books about the Brayden family. This time we have the story of Caleb. As a young teenager, he meets Faith Broscombe at a fair in Scarborough. She is a young 8-year-old who has been scared by a fortune teller. He gives her a necklace which he tells is to keep her safe from dragons. Years later, now a general in the army, Caleb returns to the area and finds that he is attracted to Faith, who still wears his charm. I liked both Faith and Caleb and the romance between them was sweet. They worked well as a couple and although they had a few things to deal with before their happily ever after, but this is a fairly short story and there was nothing too arduous. There were a couple of things that seemed a little overdone. I'm not sure why Faith was so unwilling to accept Caleb, for example. Overall it worked and I enjoyed the book. This was a good quick read. I do think that the author thinks that Newcastle is much closer to Scarborough than it actually is though!
Eight years earlier, Caleb Brayden found a young girl crying and scared because of something a fortune teller had told her. Calming her down, he gives her a necklace with a dragon amulet for protection, and after making up a tale about the power of the dragon and its protection, he leaves her with her governess. That little girl never forgot Sir Caleb, her knight in shining armour who saved her, and now older, Faith Boscombe has never removed the amulet. Except that her awful fiancé thinks that her amulet is ridiculous, he would rather shower her with 'jewels fit for a marchioness'. He doesn't see Faith for who she really is, and once he realises that Caleb is interested in her, he decides to cause trouble. But love blossoms between these two, can their love protect them from outside influences, Faith's wonderful uncle seems to think so, but only time will tell. I loved this enchantingly romantic book in the Brayden series. Meara Platt has a wonderful way of using engaging, amusing, and emotional conversations to bring her characters to life. Her heroes are honourable, caring, handsome, and hunky, whilst her heroines are beautiful, intelligent, with minds of their own. To me, that is a winning combination.
Like a great hot chocolate. Sweet, creamy, a pinch of spice and rather hard to resist!!
By former introduction, the Brayden's are handsome, irresistibly charming and undoubtedly honourable and Caleb (the hero of this tale) screams all these in abundance, Faith, the heroine, adoringly trusting, kind hearted and fearlessly loyal make the perfect match in this sweet yet touching romance. Love blossoms from a chance encounter as children and that spark lays sizzling under the surface until they meet again 10 years later and it combusts and evolves into love at first sight. An endearingly charming premise for a book that's been well executed by Platt and increases in appeal each minute you indulge. The inclusion of witty banter, attempts at spiteful revenge and delightful characters keep you emotionally invested until the end. Overall a touchingly entertaining story, that's interwoven with heartfelt sentiment, passionate moments and shadowed by malicious foolery to keep it interesting. A great addition to this series and a further insight into Platt's admirable, sexy, charismatic and must loved Brayden boys. A nice way to spend a few hours.
The blurb describes how Caleb & Faith 1st meet but the words of the fortune teller to the 8 year old Faith was “devour” not eat. The young Caleb who is 14 then, comforts Faith & uses all his coin to buy a necklace with a dragon pendant for Faith telling her that he is a dragon slayer & has used his powers to imbue the pendant to ward off dragons. Very sweet and rather silly but that is enough to reassure the young Faith. Fast forward 10 years & while Faith has mostly forgotten Caleb, the necklace is one she treasures & never removes. Caleb returns to Scarborough a general with his regiment after the war with Napoleon. Stopping for a few days to recuperate, there is an immediate connection and chemistry between the 2, but Faith is betrothed to a rather insipid man but one who is titled and wealthy, whereas Caleb is neither. A sweet story of fated love and 2 very likable characters. Caleb is the epitome of a man of integrity while Faith is wholesome but also lively and spirited. She manages her curmudgeonly uncle like a pro but obviously loves him.
This was a beautiful love story that all started with a visit to a fortune teller at a fair. Faith was a little girl who misunderstood a fortune tellers words and found herself rescued by Caleb a handsome and kind young man with a tender heart who offered to protect her from the Dragon the fortune teller had predicted would eat her heart. Caleb purchased Faith a Dragon amulet which she kept and never removed. Years later Caleb goes back to the town he met Faith at to find her and falls in love with her but Faith is about to be betrothed to a Lord. I loved Faith and Caleb together and enjoyed their story. A+++++ story and one I highly recommend.
Fortune’s Dragon is part of the Fortunes of Fate series but can be read as a standalone. It was such a charming, easy to read book. The characters were so sweet! Faith and Caleb meet at a fair when they were young. Faith was upset thinking her fortune was to have her heart eaten by a dragon. Caleb found her weeping and helped return her to her governess. Years later Caleb returns to Scarborough fair and upon meeting Faith again he realizes he loves her. Faith was already engaged and her heart was torn by having to decide which man to marry. The story was a sweet romance to read and so hard to put down. I couldn’t go to sleep until I finished it because I wanted know if they got their HEA!
Caleb and Faith meet a the Scarborough fair when they are quite young and he helps her out when she is scared and alone. Fortunes were told that day to them both. 10 years later, he is back as a General to the Dragoons and falls in love upon seeing her. She doesn’t know right away who he is but she feels a connection to him. The fair has also returned along with the fortune teller. But Faith is suppose to be betrothed. With his service to the country, her complicated love life, and the fortune teller, will their love conquer all? Can they be together?
I loved all the Brayden family stories I’ve read and enjoyed reading this one as well. It was a sweet yet spicy romance.
This story was a sweet little romance with a truly honorable hero and a feisty but sweet heroine. I loved seeing Faith believe in her handsome Dragon player's love rather than fall for the petty machinations of her petulant, spoiled, former flame. It is a pet peeve of mine, that an author creates amazingly clear-thinking heroines who suddenly become dense as doorknobs just because they've fallen in love. I'm grateful that Ms. Platt didn't use that particular plot device! This was a lovely little romance and I was certainly entertained.
A beautiful love story. Who hasn't dreamed of a handsome savior as a young girl? Faith met hers again after years apart. True love wins out in this clean, but steamy romance. Yes, thus writer can add steam without too many details, she's that good! I read this book in one sitting. Highly recommended!
Fortune’s Dragon by Meara Platt is fantastic! The story draws you in from the very first page. Caleb and Faith are fated to be together, from the moment they meet as children to years later. The confidence they have in one another and the bond they share is so beautiful. And the Brayden men are HOT, I can’t wait to read more of them.
Meara Platt has done it again. Her love story novella with Faith and Caleb leaves one wanting to know more about them and other characters introduced in this sweet, sweet story of love and I'm looking forward to reading each and every one of them.
Could not stop reading. Loved the opening chapter with a meet of the lovers as children, years before the story starts. All the characters were brought to life and I loved them all except for her jilted fiance. He is a major ash hat.
Charming story of a chance encounter as children that leads to love found years later. It lovely to have the focus on Caleb quickly recognizing his heart's love. A lovely quick read, perfect for curling up next to a fire and losing yourself in romance!
Good read. Found the book to be a lite hearted read. Loved the characters and the story. Wished there had been an epilogue to see where the characters ended up years later, but otherwise enjoyed the story.
Faith and Caleb meeting again 10 years later was sweet. I absolutely loved the characters and the storyline so much. Excepts for the trouble makers. Faith fit right in with the Brayden’s. On to the next Meara Platt story. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜
Fortune or fate. Nice story of love and fate. Caleb and Faith chance meeting as children set the path to their future when Caleb comforts and save Faith. Sweet story
