Things are not what they seem in the small American town of Bulwark.

Hospital lights flicker for no reason. Townsfolk are overcome with a salacious appetite for the demise of others.

Accompanied by would-be boyfriend Deputy Terence Blake, Dr Peter Kent is caught in the middle of mind-bending events.

A café opens in town. The food is great. It’s the unexpected distortion

‘Doctors make the worst patients’

British author DJ Cooper contributes Book 2 of the increasingly popular BULWARK ANTHOLOGY – a collection of the short works of eight authors in response to the original novel BULWARK by Brit Lunden (aka highly esteemed children’s book author Carole P. Roman). Cooper’s genre is science fiction suffused with wild humor and she uses that propensity very well in this short work, THE ILLUSION. She along with the other contributors have sparked a keen interest in explo

The concept of the book was quite interesting ,but unfortunately I could never give over a 3 stars because of the writing.

This book is a novella set in the Bulwark world where mysterious things seem to happen when near a strange puddle of green gloop.

Here we follow Dr Peter Kent (who for some reason is referred to as 'Dr Peter Kent' for 30 pages, then suddenly only as 'Peter' for the remainder of the book) Who is meeting with his police friend (who he wants to be more than friends with, wink

I love the vivid imagination of DJ Cooper in The Illusion. She makes me think of things that I haven't thought of before. This may sound morbid, but I liked visualizing some of the images in this book. I would like to see a pizza topped with human body parts. I would like to see a simple café turn into a medieval jousting arena. I also love the thought of being able to control a robot with my mind. The two main characters in the book are a police officer and a doctor. This is an unusual pairing ...more

After having read Bulwark and The knowing, The Illusion was next on my list of the Bulwark Anthology. I read right through it non stop. Have to say it was so dark and tormenting for Dr Peter Kent. I dont think I would be able to cope seeing whats not there a second yet the next second it is. Whoo..just reading the story I kinda felt maybe a nighmare coming on...Ouch!And I loved the idea of the maybe possible closeness of the deputy and the Dr. That would have been a change..having more of the no ...more

This book is part of the Bulwark anthology. Each book can be read in order or as a stand-alone.

I found this to be a very interesting and intense paranormal story with light romance and snippets of humor. My fear increased with each passing page so that I feared for someone's life. I found the ending well done and unexpected. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story.

This is the second book I have read by this author and I greatly appreciate her dry sense of humor and quick wit. I look forward to r

Okay, that was the worst dream-date ever in the story of awful dates on the whole Universe and zones of influence :P

That said, this is a really interesting story, although a bit confusing by moments. I liked the concept, and that bit with the Roomba make laugh a very nervous laugh :P

Another great reading.

The Illusion by D.J. Cooper takes place in a small fictional town of Bulwark, where the unreal becomes uncomfortably normal. This is the second book in the anthology based on the original book, Bulwark by Brit Lunden.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The plot and scenes described by D.J. Cooper are captivating. I loved the character development and the way they interacted with each other. Cooper's descriptions throughout the book made me feel as if I was right there in the pages. The book was wel

This is the second spin-off and the first written by a different author. I was glad to see that it was the story of characters introduced in Bulwark.

I found the style to be quite similar to Bulwark but with multiple presents it was a little tricky to follow.

I was confused by the reintroduction of the green water and there was no explanation as to why it came back.
