"You play nice tonight." That's what I said to her as we walked into the restaurant. Hope Winters never failed me. She was anything and everything I needed her to be. A dangerous woman. Perfect. Effective. Mine.
The deal should have been simple - mutually beneficial to both parties: Cane and Vico. An alliance. But then blood, bullets, and death began surrounding me, opening cage doors I'd closed down. That doesn't happen in my city, not unless I order it. Someone's to blame. And no one lies to me and survives. Not even Hope.
"Maybe you're worth it." Words I've longed to hear. After all this time, I was almost there. My perfectly crafted mission was nearly done. Years of scheming and seducing and it was all within my grasp.
But I allowed myself to be distracted by him and didn't see the threat until it was too late. Falling in love wasn't part of the plan. Hell, love was a foreign concept to me, but it changed everything, and now I'm in too deep with a man more dangerous than anyone I've met. Benjamin Vico asked me for two things, and instead, I brought vengeance to his door. If there is one thing he'll never accept, it's treachery and deceit. And I've committed both.
Hailing from the depths of the quiet British countryside, Charlotte likes nothing better than sinking into her characters dark and devious world's. Sometimes they're kinky, sometimes they're twisted, and sometimes they're a serious hold on tight situation, but her stories are always filled with romance and love in some form.
So this is the third book in the thrilling Cane saga and this one like the first two certainly didn't disappoint. A collaboration between two popular authors this had a flowing narrative that was seamless in its execution and there was no evidence to suggest here where one started and the other finished. This one was very much in the thick of the criminal underbelly and was amped up right from the get-go. So, Vengeful Eyes was very different from its predecessors for starters Hope Winters and Benjamin Vico are in an established partnership one which is mutually beneficial to both parties involved. As cunning and resourceful as she is beautiful Hope is the perfect mistress anticipating all of Vico's needs in some ways before even he himself does. She has made herself an indispensable addition to this powerful and dominant Mob Boss's life both in public and in private. They seem to have their own unique dynamic and Vico seems to prize Hope in much the same way one would a coveted possession. So Initially, upon experiencing this dynamic I was worried that this wasn't going to work for me and that Vico was too set in his ways for future change but upon further exploration, it quickly became apparent to me that rather than this being an issue this power play struggle is what made this my absolute favourite of the whole bunch. I know I keep saying this but each book in this series I like better than the last and Vengeful Eyes blew my socks off with its raw intensity. Hope has held out for the prize playing the long game: bringing down the Cane brothers is her end game and she has deep personal secrets and a definite hidden agenda that shes prepared to see through whatever the personal cost to herself. The encounters between Hope and Benjamen were as intense as they were rough, this is how these two initially connect with there bodies, the boundaries regarding acceptable behaviour are definitely on very blurred ground here. Vico himself is so far from the romantic type here and hes certainly no knight if anything his behaviour towards Hope is more reminiscent of the villain but despite his many unredeeming qualities (and there were loads), I still wanted him to win his girl. His gruesome gifts and dates for Hope were as confusing as they were welcome this unusual behaviour throwing her and him off game slightly. This is almost a tale of evolution as these two seem to do everything in reverse when it comes to there connection, both on a new learning curve of discovery. Both their upbringings have contributed to the people they have evolved into both growing and discovering new things about themselves the closer they have become It's almost like they're on a painful path of destructive personal discovery with the appearance of the canes in their lives being the catalyst. Eventually culminating in secrets and lies combining together into an explosive aftermath affecting everyone in its path. Loved the destination we eventually arrived at and also adored that epilogue as well. This was such a great read that I recommend highly there are definitely blurred boundaries and dark content throughout so if you like your romance on the sweet side then this probably isn't going to be your thing, this is dark, dangerous, explosive stuff. I voluntary reviewed a copy of "Vengeful Eyes (A Cane Novel Book 3)" All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.
This series is one of my top favourites. After reading and loving the first two books I was holding my breath a little when Vengeful Eyes landed on my Kindle, praying that I would enjoy it as much as the others. I need not have worried - I was hooked from the very first chapter and hated every moment that I was forced to stop reading.... I could have sat and read the whole book all in one sitting.
This is the story of Benjamin Vico and Hope Winters. Vico 'owns' New York city and has Hope on his arm and at his disposal to be ready at all times for whatever he needs. I absolutely loved both of these characters. Hope intrigued me from the very moment I met her. Her story is amazing and I loved learning about her past and watching her throughout the book. She has her own reasons for being with Vico, and as the story unfolds I held my breath when she had to make decisions that could literally put herself and others in serious danger. Benjamin Vico - the mob king of New York. I seem to love a dark and dangerous alpha male and my feelings for him were no different. I have to use the word intrigued again because I was as equally curious about him as I was Hope. How did he get to where he is? What made him into the person he reveals to the world? These were all questions that I enjoyed getting the answers to. However to see a man who is so sure of himself and his place in the world, struggle trying to work out his feelings and how he will deal with them was just fascinating. To see the relationship between Benjamin and Hope develop throughout the book really held my interest and there were many challenges for them both to overcome along the way, which I loved.
So this novel is part of the Cane series and you're probably wondering where do Quinn and Nathan fit into Vengeful Eyes? Well, you can read in the synopsis that Cane and Vico come together, an alliance against a mutual enemy and this invites many twists and turns in the book. I absolutely love the Cane brothers and their wives. They each have different personalities but are perfect for each other and I find it is always a pleasure to be reading about them. Their different personas when faced with different situations will have you thinking about them all long after you've closed the book.... I certainly have been! I really hope this isn't the last we will see of the Canes.
If you love a book that will have you gripped from the very first page, sitting on the edge of your seat and feeling many different emotions as you learn more about the characters in the story, then this book is perfect for you. I urge you to read the books in series order for two reasons: first of all you will learn the history of the characters which will increase your enjoyment of the subsequent books, and secondly because they are amazing 5 star reads and you really do not want to miss out on reading them!
The third story in the Cane Novels, Vengeful Eyes is over the top Gangsta! Yes, I said gangsta because this book is filled with even more of the underside of the mob world then most mob stories. Vengeful Eyes takes us to the streets of New York and the beautiful face of Benjamin Vico. Very little romance is presented in this story, but it is hot and steamy and violent. Great characters especially the femme fatal Hope that is out destroy the unsuspecting Canes. The dirty side of the mob has never looked this pretty. Vengeful Eyes is easily 5-stars. Hope Winters wanted nothing more than to rain havoc down on the Canes. Working her way up from the streets, Hope finds her way to the notorious Canes through the arms of Benjamin Vico, the New York mob boss. Finally, with wheels in motion Hope can exact her revenge on the Canes and bring them down, but at what cost? Vico has been the man in her life for three years and if the Canes go down then Vico will too. Hope prays that her intuitive man Vico can’t read her betrayal through her Vengeful Eyes and if he does, she can only pray that she lives to talk about it.
Well! I was shocked and surprised at the twist this story throws into the mix. It built up this world, gave it more depth, while the newly introduced characters became intertwined with the old. I loved how two worlds have now been connected, increasing the possibility for more books.
This series has really drawn me in, but I didn’t know what to expect with book 3. Both Cane brothers have already had their stories told with books 1 and 2, but I was sure this world had much more to offer, so I wasted no time diving it.
Vengeful Eyes is far darker than books 1 and 2. Benjamin Vico is the one in charge in New York and he holds nothing back. When a lesson is needed, he delivers without a second thought. The stakes are high in his world so he leaves no loose ends. But even mafia bosses need love and Hope has figured out what makes him tick, what she needs to do to keep herself in his world. She has managed to maintain her status as mistress and the only woman in his life for three years but that doesn’t mean she is immune to his harsh treatment. Vico is no Quinn or Nick; if he has a softer side, it is buried deep and not let out to play for just anyone.
I really enjoyed this one and like a lot of other readers, found it to be my favorite of the three. It’s a great story with a surprising twist that fit perfectly. The love connection between Vico and Hope is believable and I was especially impressed how the authors stayed true to the characters inner personalities. This is not your everyday dark romance. Just because a mafia king might find himself in love doesn’t mean he is ready for the white-picket fence.
I hope I’ve enticed you to pick up this book or the whole series, as they are best read in order even though they are all stand-alones. If there is a back story to be had, why not indulge and get to know the Cane boys intimately.
This is fast becoming my favourite series by 2 of my all time favourite authors. I simply adore the dark, depraved, debauched storylines and characters they come up with and the way they write together, as well as alone, is unique and instantly recognisable. I must admit I did find this a little slow to begin with and I wasn't initially enamoured with Vico but both those things soon changed and I found myself sucked in to this world. Benjamin Vico is naaaaasty, but boy do I love the guy! He's everything the Caine men are and so much more. I really enjoyed Hope as a character and seeing all of the characters from the previous books in the series all interacting and bringing their fire to the fight really added to the whole thing. Roll on book 4! Thoroughly looking forward to seeing where this group of bad boys and their better halves get themselves!
I loved that the darkness came back again in this novel. Was a bit lacking in the previous. At times i felt naughty for liking it, but it really does help to develop their complicated relationship.
Two people brought together for totally different reasons. Her using him to seek her revenge. Him wanting control and submission from a strong woman who can hold her own against anyone else.
Vico definitely drew my attention."He is a man of opposing sides, and I’m seeing more and more of the man behind the Vico name . It’s that side of him that holds the piece of my heart."
So much suspense, not knowing how the hell they were going to survive and get through all the deception and lies. And a perfect ending to an amazing book.
I can't wait to see what's in store for us in the future.
When I had the opportunity to read this book. I jumped at the chance. The synopsis sounded like it was right up my alley. But seeing as this was the third in a series. I had to read the other two books first. If you’re anything like me you don’t like to be confused when reading a book. So after reading all three. I have come to a conclusion. These authors must sh*t unicorn and rainbows because all three books were on fire. The character development, the chemistry and the right amount of darkness to make me want more. Not only do I recommend these books but I am putting them on my top reads of 2019 list. These are a must read. Cannot wait to see what comes next for one or both authors. - By Vanessa
This is more dark and violent than I usually read. I almost stopped after one of the first scenes. I pressed on because I had promised to read and review. I like the Cane brothers and their wives. They have a wonderful relationship. They protect their family.
Hope is a complicated character. She carries so much hate from her childhood with a bitter alcoholic mother. I like that she sees the good in Benjamin. She tries to show her love in a way he will understand.
I especially like the last few scenes. It brings the book to a successful close. I hope you enjoy this book too.
Vengeful Eyes by Charlotte E Hart and Rachel De Lune is book Three in A Cane Novel Series. This is the story of Benjamin Vico and Hope Winters. I felt you could make this a standalone book, although I have read the previous books. Benjamin is the mob king of New York and is deadly. Hope has personal reason for being Benjamin mistress and somewhat partner for his activities...its revenge against the Canes. But with her desire for revenge will also effect Benjamin. This book along with this series is a very dark read so it may not be for everyone but for me I enjoyed this book and the series.
I didn't know how Charlotte and Rachel were going to add new characters but I love how they did it. Emily and Quinn's story continues; I find Emily so endearing and Quinn hot. Very much recommend this book and this series. Can't wait till the next book. Thank you ladies!
Vengeful Eyes is the 3rd book in the Cane Novels series. These books are great! I have enjoyed them from the start of the series. This book drew me in from the first chapter to the last. This book takes us to the streets of New York and the beautiful face of Benjamin Vico and Hope. This book has dark elements that bring the darkness back. This story is one to read again and again.
Wow what another amazing read that that takes you on a dark ride. This story will have you on a emotional adventure that will have your heart pounding and whaling to know what will happen next. This is a must read series. And you will love this dark and twisted read of steamy hot scenes and wanting more of this story.
Just when you think the Cane series couldn't get any darker..... It does with Vengeful Eyes. Benjamin Vico Mafia King of New York. He expects perfection and gets. Hope Winters, Vico's mistress of three years has been molded into his idea of perfection. Little does he know about her secret.
The Canes, Quinn and Nate and their wifes become involed with Vico and Hope to rid the city's gangster forces cutting into their less than leagal dealings. Vico and Hope's relationship is intense, dark, twisted and definitely volatile. Vico is really good at mind fucking and makes Hope wary and confused and off her game. Confused me as a reader too 🤔
Charlotte Hart and Rachel De Lune, you two never cease to amaze me. Hoping 🤞🤞🤞 this isn't the last Cane book we read.
I was given an ARC of this book for an honest review. This is by far the darkest of the trilogy. I’ll be honest that dark romance isn’t my genre of choice, but these ladies have me hooked on their work. A story laced with violence betrayal and love. Hope and Benjamin’s story is full of twists, turns and surprises. It had me on the edge of my seat the whole way through. I particularly loved the epilogue, which tied everything up to perfection. The writing combo of De Lune and Hart is amazing and the implementation of their stories is seamless. I look forward to reading more from this talented duo.
Although you do not have to read the first two books to enjoy this one I recommend that you do. WOW When I tell you that all three books will keep you entertained and wanting more. Sometimes you read a series and the stories start feeling all the same from book to book. This series will pull emotions from you and have you riding a roller coaster. The actual story was believable and the love scenes were dark and hot. And then you add in the mafia aspect and you have no choice but to be hooked. I recommend this to those who like mafia books, romance, and a little mystery.
Intense, dark, twisty brilliance! I love this series and I was dying to get my hands on this book. Benjamin Vico and Hope Winters relationship is not one to be taken lightly. This story is so freaking amazing! I suggest you read the first two books before this one because characters and storylines are introduced prior. But don’t worry you won’t be disappointed 😊
I was kindly given an ARC by the authors in exchange for an honest and unbiased review and I have given Vengeful Eyes FOUR stars!
Vengeful Eyes is the third book in this series and takes on a completely different feel to the previous two books. Charlotte and Rachel take this book to a whole new level and give us a story that is darker, more twisted and definitely more gruesome than it's predecessors.
This story starts off a little differently with the characters Benjamin Vico and Hope Winters already in an established relationship with an unusual dynamic. They blur the boundaries and keep lots of deadly secrets from one another. The authors certainly didn't hold back with this one.
Once again these two authors have given us another story that flows seamlessly, with the reader being unable to tell who has written what!
If you have enjoyed the previous two books, this is definitely one not to be missed.
From innocent to devious and now vengeful, Hope’s and Vico’s partnership takes on a dangerous twist as the Cane brothers bring threats with unforeseen destruction to Vico’s city. Hope is one step closer to fulfilling her destiny, but how will she survive without the one thing she hadn’t planned, love? I waited impatiently, for this third book in the Cane series and couldn’t put it down once it appeared on my kindle. The writing duo of De Lune and Hart are the perfect blend of gritty terror, violence, and passion. Their ability to drop their readers into a gun fight is brilliant! Equally impressive is their writing in POV of each intriguing character. Outstanding end to the trilogy!,
This story is amazing. The third book in the series was definitely a surprise.
This Cane family definitely lives an exciting and high powered life. This Cane Novel, in my opinion, is the best yet. So much conflict, loving, and growing. Not something I would normally expect from a Crime family.
I hope this in not the final Cane Novel. I really enjoy this series.
Considering what an a-hole I believe Quinn Cane is, I can't fathom I am offended that I feel somewhat miffed at how the Yakuza, Benjamin Vico, and his mistress Hope Winters are mistreating the Canes. The shock and horror of it that I care! The only person not playing nice is Gabby (I knew I liked her), while Emily remains the pincushion.
Quinn and Nathan head to New York to gain Vico's loyalty against the Yakuza. Of course, it won't be easy because Vico is as screwed up as Quinn, and the two of them together are a toxic brew waiting to spill over. Their character traits of narcissism, sadism, and cruelty are on full display with Vico's paranoia and constant vacillating over friend, enemy or foe and who he can trust. Meanwhile, maintaining his violent and controlling hold on Hope.
The Canes may have come to gain Vico as an alley against the Yakuza, but Vico finds himself needing the Canes to help as the Yazkuza want to take over his business and territory. Vico is suspicious of the Canes and has ordered Hope to get close to Quinn. What a colossal mistake that turns out to be for Vico as Hope has her own agenda when it comes to the Canes. Hope reaches her breaking point, and Vico does not see the trainwreck that is Hope until the gun winds up in Hope's hand and where it's pointed.
Deception lurks at every corner, but the truth finally spills out, causing a ripple effect no one saw coming. And not necessarily due to the Yakuza. Gabby hasn't forgiven her brother Andreas who is in league with the Yakuza after being beaten-down and near-death experience given to him in Devious Eyes.
Just as annoying in the first two books, Quinn and his stupid dice and chucking continue and are joined by Vico's twisting of beads. Despite their nervous ticks, I'm not sure who the bigger a-hole is in this one. It would be easy to choose Vico because of the violence, but then I remember Quinn's mind games, and I don't know if physical trumps mental. The fact that Emily fell in love with Quinn and Hope with Vico amazes me. Nathan and Gabby, I get. I might even understand their relationship.
Alas, I'm so exhausted from reading this series I am going to end it with Vengeful Eyes rather than continue to the last two books. Whew! I feel a burden has been lifted. I'm not that curious as to how it all will end, as I can only imagine more of the same. The characters in the series are not likable, and most of us, hopefully, can't even begin to relate to their lifestyle of violence, vengeance, and misery. More graphic language and sex are sure to follow, and I've had more than my fill of both.
Although this genre is not my cup of tea, authors Hart and De Lune are talented writers, and I have to give credit where it's due. The duo has written a very intense and intriguing series that is dark, erotic, and twisted, keeping you reading well into the night. However, I'm sprinting back to safety with a paranormal, mystery, or horror read!
Benjamin Vico lets you know that he’s in charge and he’ll show anyone that doesn’t understand that. So you may want to hold off eating anything if you’re a little squeamish. It’s that graphic – horror movie graphic. Hope Winters surprised me as to how accepting of her situation she seemed to be. It did make me wonder how she got to that point and that’s when it became a page-turner for me. Even though it was hard not to turn the page, there were moments where I had to step away – my heart just hurt for her.
I found where Hope was concerned, she’ll reveal things to us when she’s ready – or at least when the authors knows she’s ready. Just like in the first book it’s not hard to see the darkness to the story. Erotic, yea you’ll get some of that here but it’s the romance I still have issues with. Maybe it’s just me but when I hear the word romance I don’t picture Vico and Hope but I liked watch our authors trying to change my mind. There’s some physical contact that some of you may be uncomfortable with so if you have any triggers you may want to take that into consideration before purchasing.
In the first book, I had issues with Quinn and his seemingly lack of respect when it came to women. I got that same impression here with Vico. And that’s something I don’t get. How can a woman consider that acceptable? Again, that is something that kept me moving through the story. Our authors are very good at pushing our limits. It’s why I was thankful this was a work of fiction but it does make you wonder. They leave you no choice but to hand over your mind and heart with this one. Your mind may tell you to look away but like any good horror movie, you can’t. Your heart may say that it can’t take any more but you’ve become invested in these characters so you carry on. They make a good duet since you can’t tell which part each author played in creating these characters.
As I kept reading the interactions between Benjamin and Hope, I kept questioning who they were. What could Hope see in a man like him? Who does Benjamin think he is? I know the Cane brothers make an appearance but that’s what makes them secondary characters but it was interesting to watch the authors blend them with the main characters. I didn’t feel like there was a true ending so I can’t tell you if that means this series is over or not. But I do have to do a fill in. Without realizing it, I skipped book two so I need to go back and change that since I don’t want to miss out on one of the Canes. And I have to hope that Ms. Hart and Ms. De Lune will collaborate again.
I was not compensated nor was I required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
Vengeful Eyes (A Cane Novel Book 3) By Charlotte E Hart and Rachel DeLune 5 stars
This amazing writing duo are back with book 3 in the Cane series and it was not what I was expecting at all – I was geared up for more of the delicious Cane brothers and instead I was introduced to another dangerous and just a delicious character in Benjamin Vico! After the first few pages I’m going to be honest I was not impressed, I have a weird thing about eyes so that part of the story freaked me out a little - I won’t elaborate on it so as not to spoil it but even though I was cringing I knew I had to keep on reading and boy did was it worth it! I spent most of the story trying to decide if I should love Vico or hate him – I just could not decide! He has this cruel, vicious side but also a softer, very unexpected side to him – especially when it came to Hope! I loved that Hope was not what I was expecting at all – I thought maybe she would be a shy, naive but she was absolutely not any of those things she could certainly hold her own and she definitely was a force to be reckoned with at times! I loved the back story that she had – that was very unexpected but it definitely tied all the characters together well in my opinion. A thrilling 5 star read that I would whole heartedly recommend. The writing of these two wonderful authors is truly outstanding; it’s difficult to tell who writes what as their writing styles just blend so seamlessly together. This whole series has been an absolute pleasure to read and I cannot wait to read more from these two!
This book felt nothing like the previous 2 books I thought there was more violence and mafia business which was the most entertaining parts of the story and there was not much romance which definitely disappointed me, I did enjoy the parts about the mafia and yakuza with quinn and Nathan from the first 2 books. I was shocked at how violent Benjamin and hopes relationship was and how he became less violent with her as the story developed but to me it was an abusive relationship between them which I found hard to read at times I wanted to shake hope for staying with him but as the story goes on you find out she stayed for vengeance she had been planning for years but her need for vengeance died too quickly for me and her reasons for it was weak and her need for it was dropped and forgotten about too quickly. I did not like Benjamins character and even though the story was good, entertaining and well written it felt cold and unemotional as were the characters. The weakest book in the series so far.
Again, from the beginning of this book the intensity and violence throughout keep you on the edge of your seat reading as fast as you can! There was no way at the beginning of this book I thought there was a chance for Vico and Hope to ever get together! He was an extremely angry and abusive man and she was basically just a whore that he rescued from the streets and made his mistress. There was no love between them really, it was more just his control over her, not to mention the fact that she had a hidden agenda as well. Vico is an extremely solitaire man. He’s mafia and only wants obedience and sex from Hope. He is not the romance, touchy-feely type. But when they run in to trouble with old enemies, it’s hard to know who to trust and who not to. To say this book is explosive and its intensity is an understatement. Definitely one that you have to read! I totally loved the storyline, but felt that the last chapter and epilogue maybe rushed the conclusion of the story a bit. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Book number three to the Cane Novel series and whoaaaa!!! Hands down my favorite!
That darkness that faded a bit in book two came back with a vengeance in this one. Even the parts you're not supposed to like, you find yourself really enjoying. It makes you feel a bit naughty for enjoying it more than you really should.
I really loved that we delved further into the characters relationship with this book and it answered a lot of questions that I had from the previous books. These two characters were brought together for completely different reasons, her trying to get revenge, him wanting to be controlling and take submission from a strong woman. It was such a fantastic read and I have absolutely loved the writing style throughout.
Charlotte E. Hart absolutely has slayed these books! There was suspense, heartache, love, passion, anger, you name it and Vengeful Eyes had it. This one really gave me all of the feels. Job well done!
Another fantastic story in this series. The authors have totally outdone themselves telling this story. Benjamin Vico has a lot of unwritten rules..a lot of them surrounding the one woman who ask for noting and has been with him for a while. He takes no prisoners, any slight will be dealt with and dealt with harshly. He is not a nice man , but he has no reason to be, he is at the top of his game because he knows the scores, keeps tabs and trusts no one. Hope does not have it easy, she knows what the man she is sleeping with is dangerous, and the secrets she hides will eventually come to light. What will the man who does not take kindly to betrayal do when the woman he holds onto reveals herself. Is lust enough and who will be standing at the end.
A twisted story and revelations as usual. A wild ride and a good catch u with the Canes as they discuss business with Vico. Another winner. Totally recommend.
