This funny and kid-appealing Step 2 early reader is about one small but brave little dog! Peanut has a super sniffer. When the toddler in his family wanders off in the grocery store, Peanut’s sniffing skills pay off and make him a big hero. A very relatable story in an easy-to-read format with bright illustrations from Mike Reed.
Step 2 Readers use basic vocabulary and short sentences to tell simple stories, for children who recognize familiar words and can sound out new words with help. Rhyme and rhythmic text paired with picture clues help children decode the story.
The plot goes something like this: a family goes grocery shopping. They (for some reason) bring their dog along for the trip. The baby wanders off. Peanut, the dog, follows his nose and finds the baby in the nick of time.
Not a great plot there.
BUT I have used this one to help three different children practice reading, and all seemed to love the story. It isn't short enough to seem like a 'baby' book, and they can follow the plot even if they are struggling a bit with the words.
Peanut is an adventurous dog and his family take him with them wherever they go. He loves to sniff anything and everything especially those stinky things! But when baby brother gets lost it's Peanut that saves the day...that and a dirty diaper!
