Lady Victoria Ducat has an orderly life filled with academic pursuits and the care of her ailing father. She has no use for a drunken rake like the Earl of Kissinger. Just because he is handsome, charming, and he makes her knees weak doesn’t mean she’s going to give up her principles. So what if Lord Kissinger looks at her the way no man has before? She’ll just ignore the heat in his gaze and the breathless want it brings. She had a plan and she’ll stick to it, which is a far sight better than getting her heart broken…isn’t it?
Kenneth Kissinger, know to his friends as Key, is happy living his life outside of polite society, drinking and gaming to his heart’s content. He has no use for debutantes and even less for a bluestocking and a wallflower like Lady Victoria. Except those plump lips call to him. Without a word, they promise sinful delights. Her actions speak as well, as she puts the needs of everyone in her family before her own. What would it be like to have the love of a woman like that?
But as fate, a bet, and family drama toss them together temptation becomes more difficult to deny. Can they resist temptation or will they share the kiss that has been foretold?
She would give up any chance of love for her family, but Lady Victoria Ducat never expected to fall for the handsome, yet wayward rake, the Earl of Kissinger, even as her sisters were finding their own happily ever after with his former drinking and carousing peers. Victoria has her father to consider, her pursuit of all things cerebral and her own fiercely independent streak, but she is a woman, so why not accept one kiss before settling in for a lifetime of spinsterhood? One. Little. Kiss…
NEVER KISS AN EARL AT MIDNIGHT, Tammy Andresen’s latest romantic tale about tempting Fate, throwing caution to the wind and assuming one is immune to matters of the heart is another delightful tale of finding love just when one least expects it, but needs it most.
Cleverly written with characters filled with personality and their own hidden truths, once again, Ms. Andresen gets straight to the heart of matters and her readers, leaving them sighing and fanning themselves, all while smiling at the power of falling for a bad boy, no matter what era!
I received a complimentary ARC edition from Tammy Andresen!

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ 💋💋 If ever I had the wrong opinion of a man it was Key,Lord Kenneth Kissinger . He’s a dissolute rake , drinks to drown his sorrows and forget his troubles, which are many, and he absolutely will not marry , ever . Victoria Ducat is intelligent, beautiful, has a habit of talking about birds when nervous and is convinced she will never marry because no man wants her . With her father in need of round the clock care Victoria realises that Key is invaluable, from his unselfish giving their affection grows , but what about that kiss , and is Verdona the gypsy right about these two ? You’ll have to read it and find out. Wonderful book , brilliant series, I love every page , it’s just so good . I received an Arc copy of this book and chose to post this review
Never Kiss an Earl at Midnight is the fourth in Tammy Andresen’s How to Reform a Rake series, and a must read for those who have enjoyed the two prior books. Although Never Kiss an Earl at Midnight is not my favourite book in this series, it’s another must read.
With the How to Reform a Rake series, Tammy Andresen has given us a series that is much more closely intertwined than her usual series. Not only do we get to watch each character grow and develop throughout, we also have a storyline that grows with each additional book. Therefore, although each book is a standalone romance, I do recommend reading this series in order to get the best impact. It really is the little things, the way things slowly build, that make this series so much fun.
Never Kiss an Earl at Midnight had the usual Tammy Andresen fun to it. We have enjoyable characters and a fun romance, keeping us hooked from the first to the last page. Although it did not quite have the same amount of drama as other Tammy Andresen reads, this one keeps you hooked through offering us an unusual romance. The unlikely duo sucks you in, and you’ll easily finish the book in no time at all.
Without a doubt, I cannot wait to get my hands on the final book in this series.
Never Kiss an Earl at Midnight, Book 4 of the How to Reform a Rake series, was about Lady Victoria "Vic" Ducat, twin sister to Cristina Ducat, and fourth daughter of Lord Harold Rosemond, the Earl of Ducat, and Lord Kenneth "Key" Kissinger, the Earl of Kissinger, friend to the Duke of Longley, The Marquess of Highwater, the Earl of Clearwood, and the Viscount of Averstone. Having watched three of her four sisters find love with their new husbands, Victoria was determined she would never marry. She was determined to take care of her father, whose mental health was failing, and to follow through with her desires of the study of animals and their habitats. She didn't want to give up her dreams to marry, since most men didn't want their wives to be bluestockings. Most men of her acquaintance considered her too bookish and even a bore. Therefore, she did not plan on marrying anyone, especially not Lord Kissinger, any time soon. She knew that Society considered Key to be a rake, a drunk, and even a handsome degenerate. Not someone she could relate to where her bluestocking ways were concerned. Key and his four friends had been taking a carriage ride to the Earl of Clearwood's estate in Dover just days before Christmas when they had gotten snowed in at a brothel in Canterbury. While there, they had each entered into a bet with each other and a gypsy fortune teller named Vadoma to collect a kiss from one lady of worth. The chosen ladies were the five Ducat sisters: Camille, Cristina, Victoria (who were twins), Lily, and Adelaide. As each one fulfilled their part of the bet, they each went further and ended up married to a sister. Key was determined such a fate would not be his. He was content to live outside of polite society, filling his days and nights by drinking and gaming as much as he wanted. But what no one knew was that he did so to hide what he considered to be his mistakes, failures, a man rejected and hated by his family. While both Victoria and Key were determined to not fulfill the bet (by this time all the sisters knew about it), neither one could deny the attraction that pulled them together time after time. Once again the humor was well meted and well placed in the story. The drama and angst were powerful, and the heartache of watching a loved one deteriorate was never more touching. Of all the books so far in the series, this one was the best by far. It has been the only one (with one book remaining in the series) to have earned a 5-star rating. It won't be added to the Keeper for the Shelves collection, but that's due to the grammatical and other errors more than it has to do with the story itself.
Well, why the heck not? One would want to kiss an Earl at Midnight or any other time if he was Kenneth, the Earl of Kissinger (see it is fated!). But Lady Victoria Ducat knows he is just a terrible rake, and she is a academic bluestocking who has an affinity for animals and learning their habits. Plus she had decided not to marry and devote herself to taking care of her father, who was loosing his memory. So what if she did find him handsome? She knew he had made a bet with his friends that they could kiss one of the Ducat sisters. What she did not know was that a gypsy had told them what they needed to do to find their love. Victoria really did not know what was happening with her father, but in the end it seemed that Key did and he seemed to be able to help. Yes he became a caring, concerned person but deep down he had endured a lot in his life which just pulled at my heart. Such an marvelous story that I enjoyed just as much as every book in this series! I know when I pick up a book of Tammy Andresen's I might as well be prepared to sit uninteruped until I turn the last page!!

Can they resist temptation or will they share the kiss that has been foretold? The bluestocking who wants to be listened to & the rake who has no self esteem, a really lovely romance, I think this is my favourite of the series so far, great characters & a well paced story. Both Victoria & Key are going to remain single for various reasons however the best laid plans! I read this book in a sitting as once I’d started I’d no intention of putting it down. Loving the Ducat sisters, now looking forward to the final story My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Never Kiss An Earl At Midnight by Tammy Andresen is another fabulous story of the Ducat sisters. Ms. Andresen provides readers with an outstanding, well-written story filled with amazing characters. Victoria is the bookworm, studious sister of the group and has decided to stay and take care of her father so her sisters can marry and start families of their own. Key is the Earl of Kissinger and the best friend of her brother in laws. He was also one of the rakes to bet on stealing a kiss from the Ducat sisters and his card was Victoria's. Key and Victoria's story is loaded with drama, humor, spice, action and suspense. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to my next book by Tammy Andresen. Never Kiss An Earl At Midnight is book 4 of the How to Reform a Rake Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from a third party. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This fourth book in this series was quite different from all the previous one, with less bad events and more introspection. I was very sorry for Key, he was misjudged because he suffers from some trouble like dyslexia and then was marked as dumb and not worth anything. I was heartbroken to learn how his family rejected him. While Victoria even if she is labeled as a bluestocking never she doubted she was loved by her sisters and father. It was cute to watch them quickly fall for another, each able to see past the mask they wear in society. Key is not scared by Victoria’s knowledge, more he supports her and would never want to stifle her need to learn. While Victoria sees past the rake, the one who drowns his sorrows in alcohol afraid to be found lacking. I would have A lovely addition to this series. 4.5 stars
This is an OK Regency romance, with a likable couple, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 3 stars from me.
I would recommend that you read the prologue "How to Reform a Rake" before starting this series. I'm not sure where all it can be found, but it was available at the end of the boxed set volumes 4-6 of Wicked Lords of London. You should also read the novellas in this series in order, starting with "Never Tell A Duke You Love Him".
My first issue with this story is that the author really needs to hire a better editor. There were lots of editing errors, and they were very distracting.
Because this is a short novella, it suffers from a lack of character development. That's the main reason I tend to prefer full-length books, and not novellas.
Victoria is likable enough in this story, but she did suffer from a lack of self-esteem. But I really wanted her and her sisters to stand up to her mother a little more. Her mother was absolutely awful.
Key (Kenneth) was OK, too, but he had a hard time dealing with his difficult past. It did help him to understand Victoria, but it also caused problems in their relationship.
I liked that Victoria and Key found their HEA, but found their instalove to be unbelievable.
My rating system is below. 1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it. 2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws. 3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating. 4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one. 5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.
I always enjoy a story where two people who seem to be totally opposite find it hard to ignore what is happening between them. The Earl of Kissinger thinks his future looks bleak because of how he perceives himself as a disappointment, while one of the Ducat sisters accepts that she will never marry because of family obligations. He is known for not taking on any responsibilities, and her intelligent observations have men failing to notice all her good qualities. I truly enjoyed their compelling romance which is packed with many emotional circumstances, where insight into their lives made them all the more endearing.
Although a bet stipulated Kenneth Kissinger who is known as Key would kiss Lady Victoria Ducat, he is never going to seek her out for the purpose of winning. She wants nothing to do with him anyhow, as he may be good-looking yet his rakish behavior does not meet her approval. But for some maddening reason, he finds her irresistible despite her candid conversations and often blunt comments, and keeping his distance will be exceedingly difficult.
There are numerous deeply honest moments in the latest How to Reform a Rake story, as Victoria and Key repeatedly divulge their inner thoughts to one another. I was frequently touched by their earnest revelations, as both have felt let down by others. Key is a very compassionate individual, and he proves his hero status time and again. How he deals with a complicated situation is certainly moving plus realistically depicted. I enjoyed Victoria so much, as she is kindhearted and always tries to be helpful. But underneath her quiet demeanor is a woman with a curious mind, and one scene in particular had me laughing loudly. Tammy Andresen takes Key and Victoria on an eye-opening journey of discovery, where each learns something crucial. NEVER KISS AN EARL AT MIDNIGHT entertains with a particularly appealing couple and intriguing incidents.
Kenneth aka Key, Earl of Kissinger is handsome, titled, rich & highly troubled. He & his family blamed him for the death of his sickly 17 yr. old brother when Kenneth was 16 yrs, old. He also grew up having a reading disability, like dyslexia while his brother was very intelligent. The family assumed the older brother would assume the earldom, so there was no worries about Key's learning problems or to be concerned with anything surrounding him - then his brother drowned & his family no longer spoke to him. Kenneth is also the supposed next lord to fall under the spell of the Ducat sisters - Victoria to be exact.
Victoria Ducat is a self proclaimed bluestocking & finds books keep her happy, especially learning more about birds. She has decided that since 3 of her sisters have recently married & her younger sister would be making a match soon, she would remain unmarried & take care of her memory losing father & she could also continue her studies.
Key & Victoria go from disliking to loving each other after many emotional occurrences throughout the story. One of the moments was when her father became overly upset, throwing things because he was overly confused & how Key settled her father down - it was a touching moment for the whole family.
I highly recommend this book & Tammy has done such a wonderful job experiencing the closeness of family, handling older unwell parents, helping someone (no matter how it was in the past) know they deserve & are loved & there is someone out there for everyone. Great series - can't wait to read Chase & Adelaide's story!
Never Kiss an Earl at Midnight is the fourth novella in the How to Reform a Rake series.
A rogue’s reform can have the most unlikely beginning. When a Duke and his four friends are forced to stay at the only accommodations available in snow covered Canterbury, a brothel, because all respectable inns are full, their lives take a dramatic turn. A gypsy convinces them to tempt fate and enter a bet.
Don’t Tell a Duke You Love Him: 3 stars: Max & Lily Meddle in a Marquess’s Affairs: 3+ stars: Rex & Camille Never Trust an Errant Earl: 3- stars: Sirius & Cristina Never Kiss an Earl at Midnight: 3 stars: Key & Victoria
Kenneth “Key” Kissinger is happy living his life outside of polite society, drinking and gaming to his heart’s content. He has no time for debutantes and even less for a bluestocking and a wallflower like Lady Victoria.
Lady Victoria Ducat has an orderly life filled with academic pursuits and the care of her ailing father.
Key and Victoria’s relationship was predictable and simple. It all fell into place easily because Victoria seemed very amiable and naive.
I recommend this book. I recommend this series for an easy predictable read.
Lady Victoria knows all about the gypsy's bet and prediction regarding the Rakes and the Ducat girls. However, she has more intelligence than to believe that the outcome of a kiss from the Earl, Kenneth Kissinger, will have the same effect as on her older sisters. After all, she is a bluestocking and he is a desolate drunk. One small interaction puts Key in a new light, one where his caring and concern for others, regardless of the scorn being heaped on him, comes to the fore. When Key takes charge of what has become an unmanageable set of circumstances, Victoria realises that she hasn't only met her match, but there is more to Key than she could have anticipated. I thoroughly enjoyed this historical romance, which although lighthearted does deal with some very real and heartbreaking issues. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.
How I'm going to miss this series, I have thoroughly enjoyed each book in this set, with 1 more book to go , I am at a lose until the next series from Ms Andersen comes along. Each of her books keeps you enthralled until the end. You're happy that each of the characters find their fated mates, you laugh at the adventures they all have to go through to get them, you cry at the things that the men have gone through in the past and you cry and laugh at the same time at the antics that bring them together. Ms Andersen does a fantastic job of getting each pair to the right conclusion, regardless of what the pairs gobthrough
Victoria was a bluestocking and decided to not get married and take care of their father who was having trouble remembering. When things started happening "Key" was helping with their father since his grandmother had had the same problem so he knew how to handle the situations that came up. She was offered a time to have a season to try and find a husband. Since she could only talk of birds she did not make a good impression. After a fire in their house they decided to go to the family country home where things kept happening. After "Key" proposed to Victoria more things happened. Who's doing this and why
Just when I thought I had read it all, something different pops up. This is a bit different of a story and I really enjoyed reading it. The Ducats might be my favorite historical romance family right now. Victoria is kind and smart, insightful enough to see past Key and into who he really is. Poor guy had a tough childhood and even adulthood. But what he brings to the table is much more than lust for Victoria. Her father’s condition is a sad one that many people have had to deal with. Another great read!
Victoria is a bird fanatic and when stressed she spouts off random bird facts! Lord Kenneth known as Key is instantly attracted to Vic or Victoria but he has a drinking problem and doesn't consider himself intelligent at all! Key also has horrible parenting in his past and understands Vic father who has dementia and wanders off! When a fire is deliberately set, all bets are off and Key and Victoria realize they have more in common they not!
I am loving this series! This book seemed a little more rushed than the previous books in the series. I would have liked to see a little more of Victoria's bluestocking personality come out, as well. Regardless, I enjoyed it and finished it in a couple settings.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Wonderful characters with their own personalities that keep this series interesting. This is Victoria and Key’s story. They both are misjudged and both felt unworthy of love. It was wonderful to see them grow and find their worth, especially to each other.
3.5 star book. Fun addition to the series. I didn't like it quite as much as the last two, but still an enjoyable read. Ready to read the final book in the series. (Got book series in a box set on kindle)
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from the first page until the very last. It has been a very rare occurrence that I could just pick up a book and read it in one day; but, I was captivated by these characters and their amazing love story instantaneously.
Each book in this series gets better. I think Tammy Andersen writes the best love stories. It is so good to read a book with a happy ending even though there are obstacles that have to be overcome. I would recommend this book to anyone.
So the educated sister was paired with a rake of limited learning. However, delving further his problems and aloofness has their origins in his childhood and the treatment metted out by his parents. Perhaps, she may be just what he needs to become a better man.
Key and Victory's story starts off strong and doesn't disappoint. Having a balance between two people's strengths is a well brought out point in this 4th book. Great story.
From page 30 you have repeatedly called the Lord Rosamond (his wife's name that ran away) how could this have been missed when proof read over multiple pages. Shocking I had to stop reading as spoilt rulebook that no care had been taken
Well this is the first one in this collection I have read. I don't know how missed this but I am going to have to back up and read the rest. Short, sexy and fun.
