A new favorite adventure from the exciting Hagenheim series! A sequel to the previous book, The Warrior Maiden, but with a bit of recap, it can be read as a stand alone. A wounded, repentant warrior, Steffan is finally on his way home from a war he regrets fighting. His determination to redeem himself lands him right in the middle of another battle, but this one is worth the risk.

Katerina is a brave, determined warrior type also, tirelessly working to rid the town of dangers that threaten the

I’m tardy to the party when it comes to Melanie Dickerson’s work.

When I requested to review this one, it was a spur of the moment decision based off of the fact that out of the hundreds of fairytale retellings I’ve seen out there, I hadn’t come across a Pied Piper Of Hamlin inspired one until now.

After I received my approval, I was shocked to find that Melanie has an extensive collection of Historical Fantasy novels, all of which feature strong female leads, and many of t

There is a reason Melanie Dickerson is one of my most favorite authors, it's because she writes stories I can NOT put down. As evidenced by the fact I read this one in less than 12 hours, this story is another winner from Melanie! From romance, humor, mystery and many suspenseful moments, this story has them all in spades. It was a treat to finally get Steffan's story and to see him finally "grow up." Katerina is a perfect match for him in every way. The mystery of the missing children and the " ...more

An unusual twist on a fairy tail! Mrs. Dickerson doesn’t disappoint in this retelling either.
Rats and beasts are overrunning Hamlin. Children are disappearing and men are being eaten!
Join Katerina as she valiant tries to say her town from the Beast of Hamlin. Katerina is a beautiful young girl who’s step father is the mayor of Hamlin , who has by the way, offered a reward and her hand in marriage to the person whom can rid Hamlin of their beast.

The Piper’s Pursuit is a retelling of the Pied Piper, and is the 10th book in the Hagenheim series.

This wasn’t quite as good as the rest in this series. But what I like about all these books are the endearing characters who strive for redemption and honor. And the sweet romances, even if they do get a little too sweet and cliche.

But I found The Pied Piper retelling weird sometimes, and forced to be able to fit the fairytale. And the rat plot point, kinda pointless. Things happened t

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I'm a sucker for a good fairy tale retelling and this one is top-notch!

Kat and Steffan's are great characters and the way they team up to find out what's going on is brilliant!

A big shoutout of thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The town of Hamlin is in a disarray. A plague of rats. Children going missing. And a terrifying beast that’s hunting and killing all that venture beyond the city gates. Katerina, the step-daughter of the corrupt mayor, is determined to break her and her mother free of the vile man’s rule. But first, she must find out and stop whatever is causing th

The Piper's Pursuit is not just a fairytale retelling. It's a story about moving forward, forgiveness and letting God lead you. That is what I grabbed from reading this book. Not only does this book get up to the top of my 'Favorite Books of 2019" list, but it was exactly what I needed to read at this point in my life. I was ready to cry at least 4 times while reading this book.

The Pipers Pursuit is a modern twist on the classic Pied Piper fairytale set in Hamlin 1424.
Kat is the stepdaughter of mayor who has said whoever can have her hand in marriage but she intends to kill the beast on her own.
Didnt realise it’s the tenth in a series but you don’t have to read them in order I just missed some of the references.
I’m an atheist so I didn’t relate to the references to god as much as other readers might. Unfortunately I feel this book wasn’t suited to me

Hagenheim Series
Overall impression: This series of books are a mix between 'grounded' adaptations of fairy tales (no magical elements) and religious infused light romance for young adults. They are mostly set in or around the fictional Hagenheim (Germany). They are written with a modern voice and viewpoint and a highly romanticized view of the past where mostly the good are all-good and the bad all-bad. Generally, the girls are beautiful, kind, and sweet & the boys handsome, noble, and courageo
For those of you who've not been following my reviews very closely: This has been the year of me reading fairytale retellings. And of course I saw the books of Dickerson on lists a few times before. So, when I had the chance to read this book through Netgalley I didn't hesitate. Especially because I haven't read that many retellings of the Piper of Hamelin yet.

And I really have to keep myself from going to an online bookstore to order the first book in the Hagenheim series. This book is the ten

What Would You Do….??

What would you do if you were determined to not go home – despite being gone already for several years – until you could convince your father (and yourself) that you’ve matured and changed for the better? Oh, and your father is Duke Wilhelm.

What would you do if you learned your stepfather has so little regard for you that he’s using you as the prize in a deadly game? And, your detestable stepfather is the most powerful man in town.

The Piper’s Pursuit takes place in Hamlin in 1424. The city has been overtaken by rats and a beast stalks the forest outside the city gates, snatching children who wander too far from their parents. Katerina, the step daughter of the less than honorable Bürgermeister, will do anything to save her city. When the Duke’s son, Stefan, strolls into the city, Katerina is less tha

Oh how I adored this book! I managed to read it in two sittings -- it ate up one entire evening, in fact -- because I simply HAD to know how it ended.

I am an avid fairy tale fantasy reader, and Melanie's titles have intrigued me for a while. I was concerned that stepping in on book #10 would leave me confused, but the story was easily appreciated as a standalone work. I could tell that there were references to other stories, but that did not detract in any way.

Katerina Ludken doesn’t trust men. Living with an overbearing stepfather who frightens and manipulates her mother has taught her to mistrust men. Especially haughty and arrogant men. When a stranger rides into town and asks to see the mayor Katerina judges the young man in an instant—just another man like her stepfather. When the young man tries to flirt a little, Katerina knows she can’t trust him. Nor does she have time for silly flirtatioGerstenbergns.

As far as a fairy-tale retelling go this book had a brilliant idea for a plot. But the way the story was put together it just didn’t stick the landing.
Others seems to really enjoy it, and I can agree that Steffan and Katerina was interesting characters. It's a shame we didn't get to see more of them than the "I'm taking no shit, I'm a badass female" and the somewhat guilt struken guy, gotta pay for all those sins... Both had potential but was just so simple in their characters. There was no dep

I think 10 year old me would have really loved this book, but 30 year old me did not. I selected an ARC of this book on NetGalley as this series of fairytale retelling keeps popping up on my recommendations over and over again. The story itself was not bad, and was a unique and interesting spin on the tale of The Pied Piper. In the hands of a bette ...more

I jumped at the opportunity to read Melanie Dickerson's soon to be published book The Piper's Pursuit and I was not disappointed. I enjoy this series as there are strong characters, a clear delineation between good and evil, and they are Christian but not preachy.

Several aspects of The Piper's Pursuit stand out. Often times, this genre tends to have strong female leads which I greatly enjoy, but sometimes the male characters are less than impressive. The Piper's Pursuit has equally s
This is one of my favorites of this author so far, and I've liked all of them! This one didn't shy away from issues like emotional and sexual abuse and manipulation. Katerina was a very strong female lead who felt the need to take care of herself and everyone around her, but learns that there is a time when it is appropriate to lean on others.

This is a very Christian book, which I personally prefer. The relief Steffan finds when seeking repentance and confession was satisfying and realistic. ...more

I received an ARC of this book in return for an honest review. This story is a retelling of the Pied Piper of Hamlin, in a YA romance format. It's also a Christian romance, which I hadn't realised when I picked it up. I'm not a big Inspie reader, but I've read a handful and enjoyed them, so this wouldn't normally be a dealbreaker for me.

I enjoyed the characterisation Katerina very much, and I thought the author's portrayal of an emotionally abusive family situation was well done - a
Steffan has been away from Hagenhiem for over a year, after fighting in Poland with Wolfgang, he is on a mission to prove to his family and himself that he has really changed. This is his chance to redeem himself.

I have enjoyed several of Ms.Dickerson's novels and this one did not disappoint! I enjoy how she brings fairy tales into her stories. Katerina is a strong woman and does not trust due to her won upbringing by her stepfather. He does not like being touched by men and believes them to be arrogant and thinking of their own needs and wants. Steffan carries many burdens due to the choices he has made. He wants to be better, but fears no one will forgive him, but more importantly, he needs to forgive ...more

I was immediately attached to this book due to the out of the box difference of story line compared to all of the books we read in this genre. The Piper’s Pursuit
By Melanie Dickerson
Melanie Dickerson does a wonderful job retelling the classic fairytales. I have enjoyed her previous books and The Piper’s Pursuit was no different.

She doesn’t tell him who she is, but does take him there. This begins the adventure of Steffan trying to gain her trust and both of them trying to figure out what is going on in Hamlin. Dickerson has become one of my favorite authors of all time. She takes a fairy tale, re-invents it, and then has her characters learn to turn to God to help them. What a wonderful way to write a story, especially in this day and age! The Piper's Pursuit is a take on the Pied Piper and it was wonderfully done.
