The Total Eclipse of Nestor Lopez by Adrianna Cuevas is a fun, heartfelt, educational read. Kids will love Nestor’s ability to talk to animals, even if some of them are snarky. Yes, I’m talking about you Cuervito! I truly felt all of Nestor’s emotions, happy and sad. Nestor’s dad is deployed in Afghanistan and I think children who have deployed parents will identify with Nestor and the dynamic that brings to families. I just finished reading The Total Eclipse of Nestor Lopez. It is a marvelous book on so many levels. As a veteran teacher of almost 50 years I know both boys and girls will be so engrossed in the plot they'll definitely hide under the covers with a flashlight to finish it :-) Whether they are used to moving from school to school, or always feel like they don't fit in, or absolutely love animals every middle grade student will find themselves in Nestor, his friends, and their adventures.
