Nintendo Co., Ltd. is a Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video game company headquartered in Kyoto, Japan. Nintendo is one of the world's largest video game companies by market capitalization. Founded on 23 September 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi, it originally produced handmade hanafuda playing cards. By 1963, the company had tried several small niche businesses, such as cab services and love hotels. The word Nintendo can be roughly translated from Japanese to English as "leave luck to heaven".
Abandoning previous ventures in favor of toys in the 1960s, Nintendo then developed into a video game company in the 1970s, ultimately becoming one of the most influential in the industry and Japan's third-most-valuable company with a market value of over $85 billion. From 1992 until 2016, Nintendo was also the majority shareholder of Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners.
As of 31 March 2014, Nintendo has cumulative sales of over 670.43 million hardware units and 4.23 billion software units. The company has created and released some of the best-known and top-selling video game franchises, such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokémon.
There's very little concept art or facts in this book that you couldn't infer. If you're looking for more than just screen captures of the game, you're going to be disappointed.
Received a review copy from Dark Horse and Edelweiss. All thoughts are my own and in no way influenced by the aforementioned.
I didn’t expect so many beautiful sketches and concept pieces!
Now if only I could read Japanese, as this copy came straight from Tokyo. Ahem. Stunning anyway and you can infer what a lot of the details probably mean. Just terrific pieces of art and thought went into this book and its structure.
what a perfect accompaniment to the game we are going through right now. ❤️ so much concept art from amazingly talented artists here. What a wonderful BTS look at what goes into drawing the characters.
I appreciate, ssssssso much, the huge amount of detail that went into this collection of art. It’s not just lazily slapped-in screenshots from the games — we really get interviews from the developers and designers with notes about their thought processes as they developed this game.
There’s so much life and personality and little silly things in all of these sketches, and it just shows the passion that these creators had for the Mario universe.
Fantastic. Amazing. Any huge Mario fan would probably react with literal physical squeals and laughter like I did!!
This book has beautiful art. It was fun to flip through it. I'd recommend it to fans of Super Mario or of video game artwork. It was very entertaining.
QUICK REVIEW: Another journey in itself, taking in-depth looks into each kingdom, from early conceptual art to finalized art, gameplay tips, and creator commentary. With 368 pages, this hefty artbook is a must-have for fans of the game and of the Super Mario series | RECOMMEND
