Stranded with the Marquess: Regency Stories Book 1

Rate this book
After a week of misadventures in Calais, France, Miss Amelia Browning wants nothing more than to return to England, even if it means she must accept a proposal in marriage to a man she does not love. However, her return is postponed when the ship is delayed. Frantic to return home, she books passage on the next ship to leave the port.

When Lord Matthew Albright, Marquess of Brandybrook meets Miss Browning on his ship, he finds her to be intriguing and beautiful. Although he is meant to return to England and ready himself for a marriage of convenience, he finds conversation with Miss Browning to be an enjoyable experience.

On the return journey, a storm comes in, and Amelia and Matthew find themselves washed upon the shores of a deserted beach. As they wait for help to arrive, they begin to share what is on their hearts and minds; though each holds back an important truth.

As they struggle to survive, their feelings for each other become more complex. Amelia has one worry above all, however. What will happen to them if they are not rescued and she must remain forever Stranded with the Marquess?

Amelia's holiday in Calais was not all that she had hoped it would be. Looking forward to getting back to England, she takes the first chance to leave France after the ship she had previously booked isn’t leaving the harbor as promised. She gets passage on a small merchant ship owned by a marquess. They get to know each other on board the boat. Each claims to nearly betrothed, but that is true for neither of them. They do have an attraction for each other. While on board, problems happen with the ship, and they are shipwrecked. The Marquess is able to get them both out of the ship to a shore that neither is quite sure about. I thought it was a quite humorous resolution, but I'll let you discover that for yourself.

As seems to be common, especially in shorter stories, this book started with a bit of a data dump about exactly how she and her friend got to Calais and their time there.

The book had an excess of errors in grammar, punctuation, and usage. The author even misspelled two different characters names, including the heroine at one point (Miss Brown instead of Miss Browning). Sometimes ending punctuation was missing, and sometimes the start of a sentence was not capitalized. I don't think the book was professionally copyedited or proofread.

This book had the potential to be an entertaining read, but the awkward start and many errors detracted from the story.

I received a free advance copy of this book, but this did not affect my review.

This is the first book by this Author that I have read I found it to be well-written and a story that held my interest throughout. Miss Amelia Browning is rescued when they are shipwrecked by Lord Matthew Albright, Marquess of Brandybrook. I enjoyed George'spart in the story and I like how they came to be rescued, a book I found myself smiling through. Both Amelia and Matthew say they are engaged, but they are really not. I like how the book ended. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The storyline, the loveable characters; Amelia, Matthew, and the funny bowing George. There are lessons learned, friendship, trust, fear, uncertainty and of course, love throughout the story. Grab your copy today and follow their adventures, if your hungry, you may want to bring your own spear and maybe some food.

A well written regency story that has chemistry, sparks, humor and twists in it. Nice storyline and plot. A bit predictable but in this case it suits the story. Characters well defined. A story that is a bit different. It caught me for most of the story and I liked that it is a bit unique in the theme and the twists. No spoilers here. To be rescued gets a meaning of a lot of things, though.
Recommendable.

Stranded with the Marquess (Book 1) By Catherine Mayfair

Four stars, little confusing at the beginning with Amelia and her friend in France (no chaperone) ... They part in their return, she boards a ship with the owner on board.. Lots of misunderstandings.. Matthew was learning the ropes in shipping, storm shows up they get toss about and stranded on a beach....He is not perfect nether is she, which makes the book interesting, obvious ending.

I enjoyed this book greatly. I liked that the characters were complex, but still easily likable. Amelia had spunk, but a kind gentle way. The marquess mad a temper, but a gentle heart. This is a lighthearted adventure!

She will do anything to get home even to marry someone she does not love to get back to England. There is a delay so.She gets the first ship out. She attracts the attention of a man before they are shipwrecked. Could this be good for them? Will they find love? See what will happen
