Solid Start to a New Series

Nine Elms is a new police procedural about a former detective haunted by the events of her past.

15 years after catching the Nine Elms serial killer, Kate Marshall finds herself barely staying afloat. Dismissed from the police force due to her behavior, she is now a university lecturer. When she receives a request from the parents of a missing girl to investigate their daughter’s disappearance, Kate finds herself being pulled back into the dark world of the Nine Elms

After his brilliant best selling Detective Erika Foster series, Robert Bryndza has embarked on a new series featuring Kate Marshall. In 1995, Kate was a young DC who caught the Nine Elms Killer, Peter Conway, in traumatic circumstances when he tried to make her his fifth victim. However, instead of being lauded for her efforts, she left the police in disgrace, her reputation in tatters with the intense media focus, she had made an error of judgement by sleeping with Conway, and ending up ...more

Wow Robert Bryndza has done it again! i am a massive fan of his Erika Foster series and it was a no brainer that I would read the first in his new series featuring Kate Marshall. And as expected, Nine Elms is addictive and brilliant. I loved Kate from early on in this book and I can't wait for more from her.

Kate Marshall is a police detective in London. She is young and passionate and working on finding the Nine Elms Killer before he strikes again. But she is attacked by him when he tries to

After 6 successful crime novels featuring Erika Foster, Robert Bryndza comes with a new series, introducing private investigator Kate Marshall.

As a young detective with great potential and a promising career, Kate had an affair with one of her colleagues only to discover soon after that he was the notorious Nine Elms serial killer. Kate manages to put him behind the bars but realises too late that she is pregnant with his baby. Fast forward 15 years and this is where the book #1 starts. Kate is

NINE ELMS (A Kate Marshall Thriller Book 1) by Robert Brynzda is the debut suspense/thriller book in a new P.I. series. I love Mr. Brynzda’s DCI Erika Foster series and was thrilled to receive an early copy of this book. I could not put it down!

Kate Marshall was a young police detective when she was placed on the task force for the Nine Elms Cannibal case. She was determined to prove herself. She caught the serial killer, but at

Returning with a new series to captivate fans, Robert Bryndza delivers a knockout punch with Kate Marshall crime thriller. Back in 1995, DI Kate Marshall was hot on the heels of the Nine Elms Cannibal, a serial killer with a taste for flesh. While working the case, Kate almost becomes a victim herself, but is able to capture the killer, none other than her boss, DCI Peter Conway. Flash forward fifteen years, Kate has left the Met and is now teaching Criminology, able to lecture about the horrors ...more

First of all let's get my pet peeve out of the way. Why does Kate have to be an alcoholic? Mr. Bryndza - you have let me down. Such a cliché!

Anyway I rose above that and enjoyed the book. I did not like Kate as much as I did Erika but I expect she will grow on me. Tristan was an excellent offsider. However if I am ever expected to believe that Jake would go anywhere near his father (view spoiler) then I will not be able to read any further. I

Anyone who knows me, knows what a huge fan I am of this authors books. I absolutely love his Detective Erika Foster series so I could hardly contain my excitement when I heard he had a brand new crime series coming out!

Now I won’t lie, when I picked up this book I was filled with not only excitement but with a bit of trepidation also. Where as with the other series I knew mainly what to expect knowing the main characters but with this one, it’s all very new with new characters and new setting

I love Robert Bryndza novels whether they are his Detective Erika Foster series or his humorous Coco Pinchard series so I was really looking forward to the first book in the Kate Marshall series.
Sixteen years ago, Kate Marshall was a rising star in the London Metropolitan police force. Young, ambitious and driven, with a talent for getting into the minds of criminals, she solved several high-profile murder cases. When Kate was tasked with tracking down a vicious serial killer her instinct and

Nine Elms is an enjoyable, if somewhat implausible, start to a new series.

While marketed as a thriller, I would label this more suspense with a strong dose of drama. Kate is our flawed, damaged heroine who overcomes all the tragedy of her past in order to do what the police force is unable to accomplish. Her character is likable and smart, although she falls into that category of too many female leads, in which her problems are exacerbated by her weakness, gullibility, and/or inaction.

I am a big fan of Robert Bryndza and the DCI Erika Foster series and I was sad to hear that it ended but I shouldn’t have worried. Mr Bryndza has done it again with Nine Elms. Wow what a book and I can see from the other reviews that I have read that others feel the same.
Kate Marshall had a promising career in the Met police that could lead her to the top. But after having an affair with a colleague Peter Conway with devasting effects. When it turns out that he is the Nine Elms cannibal Killer

As a die-hard fan of this author - especially his Detective Erika Foster series - I was delighted to learn of his newest venture, of which this book marks the debut. I was thrilled when I snagged a copy through Amazon's First Reads program, and now that I'm finished, I'm over-the-top happy; in many ways, I like "new" heroine Kate Marshall even better than Foster.

Adding plenty of background "baggage" is, I'm pretty sure, Rule No. 1 in the Heroines 101 class; and to be sure, Kate has more than her

Don't miss this debut featuring former DC Kate Marshall in a fast-paced, action-packed suspense thriller as she faces the demons of her past. A true serial killer chiller!

Detective Chief Inspector Peter Conway -- "respected police officer by day, serial killer by night."
DC Kate Marshall had come very close to being the Nine Elms Cannibal's 5th victim, but she survived the stabbing and in 1996, Conway was tried and detained at Great Barwell Psychiatric Hospital in Sussex. Though she had stopped

Ahhh! I loved Robert Bryndza's series about Erika Foster and was sad to see it end. Could he come close to measuring up to these oldies? YEP!! He certainly did!! We start with the year of 1995 with Kate Marshall, the heroine of this heart-pounding new series. She was a detective constable when she unmasked the Nine Elms Cannibal serial killer, who left the bodies of teenage girls—posed naked with bite marks on their bodies, their heads wrapped in plastic bags—around London. Though the killer was ...more

Robert Bryndza is a danger to my health, that’s a fact! I read Nine Elms the first instalment in a brand spanking new crime series, whilst on holiday in Greece. I became so engrossed whilst reading it I forgot to reapply my sun tan lotion and ended up with slightly sunburnt legs! Very painful let me tell you! Was Dark Elms worth a restless and uncomfortable nights sleep because of my burnt legs? You bet it was! I loved the Erika Forster series but

I would like to thank Netgalley and Little Brown Book Group UK for an advance copy of Nine Elms, the first novel to feature lecturer Kate Marshall, set in Devon.

As a young Detective Constable Kate Marshall caught the notorious “Nine Ems Cannibal” serial killer at great personal cost and she never worked as a detective again. Now she is a lecturer in Criminology at Ashdean in Devon. Her quiet life is interrupted when a copycat killer starts operating in the region. Slowly Kate and her assistant,

I love the feeling I get when I pick up the first book in a brand new series so I was happy to select this novel as my Amazon First Read choice. In Nine Elms, Kate is an ex-detective who now lectures at a local college. She is also known as the detective who identified the Nine Elms Cannibal serial killer back in 1995.

Thoughts:
My initial impression upon reading the first couple of chapters in the 2010 timeline was how the setup reminded me a little of the 1995 movie Copycat. The protagonist,

Robert Bryndza really hit a home run with Nine Elms and I loved his new female lead, Kate Marshall. This book has everything that makes a great crime thriller and I couldn't get through this one quick enough. I was addicted from first to last page.

Robert Bryndza builds this story perfectly, expertly, grippingly as the reader becomes immersed in a copy cat serial killer that some 15 years earlier Kate had solved. It seems her past has come back to haunt her in more ways than one.

A serial killer mystery launches a new private detective series

“Nine Elms” by Robert Bryndza plunges us into a serial killer mystery just before the Nine Elms Cannibal is unmasked, nearly killing our heroine, Kate, who just barely fends off the killer who nearly took her life. Fast forward 14 plus years and Kate is no longer a police detective and the killer has been sentenced to life.

I would have liked to have had this killer’s motivations more fully fleshed out before plunging us into a

I guess it was a solid thriller. At this point no plot twist really surprises me anymore so I didn't expect it to blow my mind. It's mostly cliches but an engaging read nonetheless.

As for the negatives:
The plot was a little far fetched and unrealistic. The characters were a little two dimensional.
A little too gory, which is no problem for me but may be for some people.

And just a tiny little thing that made me want to DNF this book 5 pages in:
Kate (the MC) is harassed by a creep when she is

I'm afraid I gave up after a while. Just couldn't stick with the characters, and I didn't think Kate was all that bright for a detective....too emotional. Maybe I wanted more character development and less plot driven.

I really try not to get sucked into series, but I enjoyed Robert Bryndza's Erika Foster books so much I couldn't resist. I like that Bryndza's protagonists are flawed, but not the anti-hero so many people are writing these days. You feel for them and believe in them.
