Bell says: "What are some of Jesus' final words? 'My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?' Jesus. On the Cross. Questioning God." (pg. 31)
Response: Jesus is not questioning God; he is quoting the first line of Psalm 22, which is a prophecy about Himself ("They pierced my hands and feet … they cast lots for my clothing")
Bell says: "Jesus expects his followers to be engaged in the endless process of deciding what it meant to actually live the Scriptures" (pg. 50)
Response: Jesus told the Apostles: "Go and make disciples ... teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)
Bell says: "It is our turn to redefine and reshape and dream [Christianity] all up again" (pg. 50)
Response 1: Jesus told the Apostles: "Go and make disciples ... teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19-20)
Response 2: "Even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a curse! As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be under a divine curse!" (Galatians 1:8-10)
