Landry Q. Walker is a New York Times bestselling author of comics and books. His work includes Star Wars stories, Batman and Supergirl comics, and the Project Terra series of novels. He also co-created a Saturday morning cartoon called Scary Larry. He likes castles and robots and also pop-tarts. Most days he sits in his office and pushes buttons on a keyboard until stories somehow happen.
No pasa prácticamente nada relevante.
A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin Martin knows how to write an amazing story. His world and characters are taken seriously, with each chapter containing an intricate plot and multiple character development. The story is rich in detail.
Really good adaptation! I really liked how they did follow the book, and not just followed the tv show. Many of the illustrations were very similar to what I pictured in my head, and the ones that weren’t the same (like Arya) were still done very well. Looking forward to the rest of this adaptation.
I've been slowly making my way through A World of Ice and Fire, which has put me in the mood for more GOT stuff. Somehow I'd missed that A Clash of Kings had been adapted to graphic novels, so I rejoiced to discover it.
The series is beautifully adapted. The artwork is appealing, particularly the depictions of the characters and direwolves, and I loved revisiting scenes from the book, especially Tyrion's return to King's Landing!
I'm glad to have these for comfort, as the yearning for book 6 continues unfulfilled.
I read the comic book adaptation of A Game of Thrones, but it was a far cry from the mastery that was the adaptation of the Dunk and Egg novellas. I feel like this starts to bridge the gap a bit. The art is much more captivating, the story easier to follow for those who have not read the novels. But we're not at the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' level yet.
Okay, so I'm a fool. I picked this up from my library during a readathon and didn't realize it wasn't the first book until I'd started it.
But I still powered through rather than simply ditching it for something else because that's what you do during a readathon! Anything to get the book count up, haha!
Seeing as how I was very confused about the events, this was still a pretty good book! The art was very pretty, but that's about as much appreciation as I was able to give it considering I had no idea what was going on. My advice, make sure you read the books in order! 😂
Like I said earlier, what's not to love about these? The text is already superb and that has been enhanced by the illustrations. I was thinking about the poor artist who had to create hundreds of named characters for this book. These graphic novels are collected in 4 hardcover editions so I shall be starting the vol. 2 soon and then 3 and 4 and then Keep on Reading as always.
I have always loved comics, and I have I can. I love comics to bits, may the comics never leave my side. I loved reading this and love reading more, you should also read what you love and hope always to love them. Even though I grew up reading local Indian comics like Raj Comics, Diamond Comics, or even Manoj Comics, now's the time to catch up on international and classic comics and Graphic novels. I am on my quest to read as many comics as I just want to Keep on Reading.
It won't be long now, but there's still plenty of time to jump on board the graphic novelization of Martin's cash cow series. If you're already a fan, you can even read out of order: you know what comes before and after, so what does it matter? For folks who couldn't get into Martin because of his long, descriptive passages, the GNs might be just the thing: the art cuts a lot of the fat, and makes the story much more enjoyable to follow.
I'd be really surprised if you hadn't already started purchasing this series for demand, but if you haven't, consider starting. GoT isn't going anywhere, and since the novels aren't done yet, you can keep your patrons happy for quite some time by being able to hand them an alternative when all the books/DVDs are out. Recommended as part of the entire series, for all adult/teen GN collections.
Quite different from A Game of Thrones Graphic Novel. Obviosuly because both illustrator and writer are different for this one.
I somehow like the previous artwork style better. But this one isn't bad either and it is growing on me.
Also the first novel's adaptation didn't have character wise chapter, it was narrated according to different plot just like any other graphic novel but this one has character's POV chapters (same as novel). Again I liked the earlier style better.
Having said these I thoroughly enjoyed this graphic novel; and why not?? Every chance of getting back to the poisonous, brutal and heinous yet amazingly interesting world of Martin is a welcome one.
This is the first volume (of four) of the graphic novel adaptation of A Clash of Kings, which is the second book of George RR Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.
This has a new writer and new artist compared to Game of Thrones, and while it takes a little adjustment if you go in to this straight from Game of Thrones.
I really enjoyed it. It starts with the same prologue the novel begins with and it felt suspenseful and was well written. The writer went with the same character name chapter breaks as the book. There were no “wait where are we?” moments jumping ahead to further action that plagued Game of Thrones.
Three and a half stars. Looking forward to the remaining volumes in this series.
Ok this illustrator, different from the first four graphic novels, clearly has more respect for the female form. I appreciated that immensely. He knew how to illustrate fat women in a normal way, and he also spent time on costumes for women that looked cool, rather than designing them to look super tight on huge chests like the last guy. So that was nice. That said, Martin’s misogyny drips off every page of this series, and I know that the point is that this society in the story is misogynistic, but it’s pretty clear that he is too, as absolutely no female characters have true agency and are exploited all over the place. Or their pain is what makes them “interesting.” I also hate every single character and don’t care about any of them except maybe Arya and Jon, just a little.
It’s nice to reacquaint myself with the earlier events of GOT and this graphic novel has some beautiful artwork. The story is still lots of fun although the huge battles that make the TV series so engrossing are missing from this one since it picks up just after the events of the first series.
Obviously, they’ll pick up in later books so this one serves as a nice bit of story building. If you know nothing about the books or the TV show then this is a great continuation from the first set of books and it looks lovely!
I remember being really fatigued by how similar every character looked in the early going of this series, but Clash of Kings, maybe be extension of moving the Starks further away from one another, now feels less hard to follow at the level of illustration. Not really going to review the story, save to say that this portion feels really on point with Tyrion and otherwise the narrative was, I think, arguably better constructed here in the adaptation to television. Oh how time made fools of us all!
I revisited A Clash of Kings: The Graphic Novel, Volume One to refresh my memory while a friend of mine reads the original books. The artwork does a fantastic job capturing the spirit of George R.R. Martin's world, making it an engaging way to relive the events. This first volume, adapted by Landry Q. Walker and illustrated by Mel Rubi, brings to life the beginning of the chaos and conflict that arises after the death of Eddard Stark and King Robert Baratheon. It’s a great way to revisit the series for those familiar with the story or to experience it in a new format.

These graphic novels are terrific. They are shortened versions of the actual stories (due to the length of the originals obviously), but that doesn't really affect the quality of the story lines (or the adult themes, for that matter). There are some great artistic representations of the characters and settings of the story, and I really enjoyed them and hope they continue to produce them for all of the books.
Another solid entry and a good start to A Clash of Kings. The beginning of the novel isn't quite as interesting as the beginning of A Game of Thrones but the introduction of Stannis is effective and Theon as a POV character is added. Neither of these characters are favorites but necessary to the flow of the story.
Much better artwork in this volume. Characters' faces look their age and have unique attributes. Great backgrounds and colouring. I'd say this is a very strong adaptation: it truly reminds me of how tight and exciting the first three books in the ASOIAF series are... but sadly, it then also makes me think of the boring mess the books are doomed to fall into by ADWD.
