Hot Fudge Murder by Cynthia Baxter is the second book of the cozy A Lickety Splits Mystery series. Each book of the series centers around it’s own mystery to be solved so it is possible to read out of order although some character development would be missing.

In this series Kate McKay had left her hometown after high school and gone onto college and then a career in Manhattan but when she got news that her grandmother needsed someone to come care for her Kate quickly returned to Wolfert’s Roost

Hot Fudge Murder is a cute cozy mystery. It's typical of the genre, but it's enjoyable for a relaxing fast read.

I am one of those usual persons who doesn't really like ice cream. I enjoyed the history of ice cream found at the beginning of each chapter. I felt that too much emphasis on the various ice creams several them sound terrible.
Kate is catering to a glamorous party hosted by a well-known designer. During the party, the host is found is found murder. The news media arrived in town but the fall leaders are not coming to the area. Kate decided to investigate. Will she find an answer before she joins

HOT FUDGE MURDER, the second book in the Lickety Splits Ice Cream Shoppe Mystery series by Cynthia Baxter is a sweet mystery with lots of yummy, cold treats to whet the reader’s appetite! I greatly enjoyed the way the author starts each chapter with a historical blurb on ice cream. Not only was it entertaining but it was educational. I was also intrigued “watching” how the protagonist, Kate McKay, puzzles over flavor combinations to create new ice cream flavors for her shop, Lickety Splits. So ...more

My first job was at a Baskin Robbins, so Kate's new ice cream shoppe, Lickety Splits, reminds me of those days with one exception - Kate dreams up and makes all the ice cream combinations with fun names. Her biggest catering job so far opens the story. Providing a hot fudge sundae bar at one of Omar DeVane's homes is quite the honor, as he is one of the most well-known fashion designers in the world. He is also gentle, kind, and personable, a middle-aged man sharing a good time with business ...more

Hot Fudge Murder is the second book in Cynthia Baxter’s A Lickety Splits Mystery series and is a fun and easy read. The characters are well developed and likable. This is a clean read, with an interesting mystery and sprinkled with humor and a touch of romance.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this cozy featuring an ice cream inventor!

Kate is invited to scoop at a fashion designers party which would be great but the poor man ends up murdered! (Sadly, not by a hot fudge sundae.)

Kate decides that she needs to solve the case.

It's a fun mystery with interesting characters and potential motives.

Eh, I just could.not get into the book, the plot or the characters. The book just didn't peak my interest. I think there is probably an audience for this book, I am not it. I do typically love cozy mysteries. I just am not a fan of this one.

The first chapter of Cynthia Baxter’s Hot Fudge Murder efficiently brings readers up to speed on the characters while beginning the action of the new plot. Kate McKay, owner of Lickety Splits, is hired by fashion designer Omar DeVane to cater an affair at his vacation home, throwing her into the world of the rich and famous. His favorite treat is hot fudge sundaes which Kate is glad to provide.

There is a murder at the event, and the important tourist trade in Wolfert’s Roost plummets,

As a child I enjoyed our local ice cream parlor, it was a treat to go there with my family and struggle to pick out a wondrous creation from the menu. I'm still a lover of ice cream. Oh, the flavors - sigh. If I lived near Lickety Split Ice Cream Shoppe, I would be there so often I would have me own seat. This series is a classic cozy set in a small town with a young woman who has left her job to return home due to family matters and decides to start a new chapter of her life. When I need an ...more

Hot Fudge Murder by Cynthia Baxter is book #2 in the Lickety Splits Ice Cream Shoppe series. Although I haven’t read the first book, I had no trouble jumping right into this story.

Kate McKay owns the Hudson Valley’s gourmet ice cream shop, Lickety Splits. Although the shop hasn’t been open very long, it’s been tapped to cater a prestigious event: a gala at the home of Omar DeVane, fashion designer to the stars.

But Kate and the Lickety Splits crew don’t have much time to be starstruck because

This is the 2nd in the Lickety Splits Mystery series. I did not read the first book and I was still able to follow along. This can be read as a standalone although I usually like to read a series in order. I do plan to go back and get the first book as I would like more of the backstory of the events in the prior book and on Kate. Kate has moved back to Wolfort’s Roost from Manhattan to help her Grandmother who has health issues. Kate recently opened her ice cream shop and it has been so well ...more

In Cynthia Baxter's Hot Fudge Murder, the 2nd installment in the Lickety Splits culinary cozy mystery series, this delightful story had whipped out all the ingredients for a good mystery: drama, suspense, a hint of romance, and a compelling story line. When her shop was asked to be invited to cater an event from Omar DeVane, a well-known fashion designer, she was more than happy to oblige. But ...more

The first book I've read by this author, though I believe the second in this series. Even not having read the previous book, I was not lost and could follow the storyline perfectly well without. It helps that the mystery was self-contained as well. Kate is still in the fledgling days of opening her ice cream shoppe, Lickety Splits, when she is asked to cater the desserts for a fashion show by Omar DeVane. but the event is brought to a halt when Omar is discovered murdered. Can Kate solve the ...more

Hot Fudge Murder is the second book in the Lickety Splits Mystery series and I had been looking forward to reading it for awhile now. I read the first book in the series and really enjoyed it but I did not feel that the second book in the series was as good. I thought too much focus was placed on ice cream and it detracted from the mystery. I also thought some of the flavor combinations that Kate came up with sounded awful (such as pear and blue cheese ...).

I also did not enjoy how much

Hot Fudge Murder is the second book in the Lickety Splits Mystery series! We meet up again with Kate McKay as she’s getting ready to cater a huge, glamorous event, which is hosted by fashion designer Omar DeVane. But the party soon turns sour when Omar’s dead body is found.

After reading the first book in the series, I instantly fell in love with the characters and the tiny town of Wolfert's Roost, so I couldn’t wait to read the second book, which was slightly better than the first!

Great book! Kate McKay runs an ice cream shop with both regular and unique flavors. When she caters an event for a famous fashion designer, the evening doesn't end well with the designer being murdered. With tourists staying away from town, Kate sets out to find the killer. Another potential love interest is introduced with new shop owner, Brody. I love the town and characters as well as the ice cream flavors Kate is always thinking up. Looking forward to seeing what's next for her and if she ...more

Kate and her ice cream shop are again the focus of a mystery. In this one, she is present during a murder because she is catering an event. She then sticks her nose into things to find out who dunnit. I have to say that this second book was an improvement over the first one, but, I found myself doing the eye-roll thing often while reading it. I felt as if someone had watched too much Project Runway before writing this book as there were so many parallels among the cast of characters. A lot of ...more
