Emilio

It’s been said…
When life gives you lemons,
You make lemonade.
I know that drill by heart.

When life gives you eternal love,
You take it and hold on forever.

When your love gives you a child,
You cherish and protect him with all
Your heart.

When your heart gets crushed,
You reconstruct it with steel.

It’s also been said…
There’s a thin line between love and hate,
I’d say…you have no idea.

I loved this second installment in The Mendoza Family Series!

Life could be hard. Life could be brutal. Life could be unforgiving. But at the end of the day, life could be wonderful if you fought for what is important.

I have a new book boyfriend. I introduce you to Emilio Mendoza.

description

You can know a little bit of Emilio in Cabezón (1st. book in this series). But not enough to understand or know him deeply. This is Emilio and Sofia story. Is angsty, raw, emotional, inspirational and primitive.

Emilio started their relationship as a friends. But it didn't take long to become something else. Everything seemed to going well. But Sofia had to make a forced decision which will bring her many problems. Emilio does not know the true reason for that. Giving way to bitterness and bittersweet taste of his loss. Inadvertently he finds her but not in a good situation. It is there where the internal struggle begins because the mixture of emotions that arise in that new encounter.

This one have more suspense and some dark situations. Despite that, I enjoyed all the positive moments much more. In this story, forgiveness, family and love triumphed.

I first met Emilio in Cabezon and in the second part of that book is where his story really began. There was a time jump that had Emilio in a completely different phase of life and I was really interested in finding out more.

Emilio met Sofia at a restaurant she worked out. There was something about her that kept him coming back and wanting to know her. They fell hard and fast in love. Things kept moving at a rapid pace for them, including becoming parents. Sofia had never been happier and loved her life with Emilio. She never imagined having a life like this after everything she has been through growing up.

‘Combustible. Primitivo. Our attraction was primitive, raw, and beautiful in it’s savage vulnerability.’

One moment they were living the life they dreamed and then within one day her bubble is popped. The life she loved is no longer hers to enjoy. The prologue of this story is heartbreaking and it is evident how painful Sofia’s decision was to leave behind the life and family she loved.

Four years have passed and Sofia is doing what she has to do to survive. Her beloved Emilio and son are never far from her mind. He has no idea why she chose to leave and she will never tell him, it will only lead danger to his door. When Emilio walks into the club she now works at, everything shifts. To say he is shocked to see her is an understatement. He hates her so much but he also still loves her in equal measure. Now that he has seen her again, he can’t get her out of his mind.

‘She was my obsession. She was my fucking downfall.’

Emilio needs to know why she walked away from him, even if he sees no future for them anymore. Getting that information out of her proves harder than he thought. When Sofia finds herself in an impossible situation, it is Emilio who steps in to help. Will she finally be freed from the ties that bind her to her past?

This was an exciting, fast paced story and I simply could not put this down. There are also so many sweet and heartwarming moments too :)

One of my favorite things about this author is her ability to create characters that jump off the pages. This was definitely done in the first book and even more so in this one. In the first book, I was intrigued by Emilio but it was nothing compared to how he was in this one. It is important to read this in order because without doing so the backstory and history of this family would not have the impact that it needs in order to understand and truly fall in love with the characters in this book. Trust me when I say that you want to fall in love with this family because they are special.

This is not all happiness and rainbows. I cannot imagine having to make the sacrifices that Sofi had to make. Yet, I like her, would do it in a heartbeat if I had to for the same reasons. My heart hurt trying to imagine her pain. I could also empathize with Emilio and his feelings of betrayal. However, Much like Vincente and Dani, these two were destined to meet and be together. They just had to go through a lot of bumps to get where they needed to be.

I love the culture that the author brings into this story and keeps it authentic thus making me feel like I am part of this wonderful family. There were a few minor things that I wish had further clarification but other than that this was truly worth the wait. Also, off-topic, This cover is stunning. I loved the first cover but this one... sublime.

I’m alternating between a 4 and 4.5 stars.

This book deals with some serious ish. We have gangs, we have drugs and violence and just a lot of really painful and deep moments to cope with. But it’s also hopeful in many ways. How do we change this, grow from this, overcome this. It was very loving in that way.

It was also sexy, because damn those sexy times do in fact work here lol. Not always healthy but always hot.

My only gripe was something Emilio did, which seemed counter to her character and out of place given his history. Something he does and says to Sofi which after what happened to his mother just seemed extra wrong.

Still I’m so glad I got to read this beauty too. And can’t wait for book three.

My heart was pounding, my palms were sweaty...this story wrapped itself around me, captivating me, drawing me in and making me feel like I was right there!

Sofia and Emilio’s lives as children were terrifying, and although their paths crossed once, they never actually met, until many many years later when life was very different for them both. They fell in love, but when Sofia’s past came calling, she did what she had to do and broke both their hearts. She was so vulnerable yet so strong, and I wanted nothing more than to see her be happy.

There was nothing hearts and flowers about Sofia and Emilio’s second chance...it was fraught with mistrust, hate, and obsession. I could feel Sofia’s raw pain and devastation. Love could be so cruel and she found that out over and over again!
My emotions were all tied up in knots!

Violent, suspenseful, heartbreaking, intense, and so worth it all with an ending that’s absolutely perfect and beautiful. The Mendoza Family series is a must read!

I’m a sucker for redemption stories. Like, legit, I DEVOUR them. There’s something about the underdog, the anti-hero, the villain—making it right.

Primitivo is the story of Emilio(single-dad) and Sofia (estranged baby mama). We get glimpses o these two in a Cabezon but it isn’t until their book that all is revealed.

Emilio is the prefect mix of asshole and Prince Charming while Sofia is the young girl with no support system doing what she thinks is best.

Their story—their love—is hard fought, but the payout is worth it in the end.

Croft kills it with the second book in the Mendoza chronicles and I AM HERE FOR BOOK 3!

Wow! I loved this story about Emilio and Sofia!

After getting to know Emilio in Cabezon, I wanted to know more about him and Eric and what had happened between him and Sofia. I was intrigued with how Rose Croft so adeptly and cleverly crafted their unique story. I was so invested and immersed in their story I couldn’t stop reading.

I’m totally invested in The Mendoza family! I can’t wait for book 3!

Ugh... that was INTENSE.
I absolutely devoured Cabezon and knew that Emilio's story would wreck me - and it did. But in the best way.
So much drama!
So much hurt, love and happiness in amongst the destruction.
So many sweet moments, steamy bits and SO MANY EMOTIONS.
I don't think this book could have been any better- it was absolutely perfect for Emilio and Sofí.

Can someone tell me what is going on? What did I just read? Because I don't understand it, these feelings, my heart... Is just so freaking joyful! This book pulverized my heart and somehow Rose found the way to put it back together and on top of that, fill it with so much joy!

What a second chance romance this was! I am in awe with how beautiful and poignant this story was. I picked it up the second I finished Cabezón. I was intrigued by Emilio after reading how heartbreaking the story of the Medoza family was, I knew he had some interesting stories to tell and a completely point of view of their tragic past than the one Vicente told us in his book.

I wasn't wrong.

."Hijo mío, tu Corazon, es él de un león. I remembered the words my mother said to me when we were crammed in that semi-truck years ago. My son, you have the heart of a lion. Mami always said I was born to protect and help others."

"Corazón de león", the heart of a lion, is the perfect description for Emilio. While Vicente held the responsibility of being the head of the family, the man of the house, Emilio was his second, his co-pilot and best friend, the protector who always had his brother back. I loved seeing the little flashes of his young love with Sofía, it was obvious how much life hardened him and made him grew up in a way no kid should. He had his reasons to hold so much anger and resentment towards Sofía, but once his protective instinct was activated, he was the swooniest, most amazing book boyfriend ever. He was the most amazing dad to Eric and seeing them together made my heart flutter!

Sofía's story made me cry so hard because is REAL. Right now, there are thousands of girls in that situation and the fact that no one does anything to protect them breaks my heart in a million pieces. Once again, Rose Croft took that painful reality through this beautiful genre and gave Sofía the hope she needed to survive. She was so resilient and brave, so sacrificial just like Emilio. The way she loved Emilio and Eric was the sweetest thing in the world! She deserved them, her dreams and to be free to be happy! I loved how she always had her head up and knew her worth, despite her circumstances and what she had to do to survive, she never let go of hope and the way she ran towards Emilio's arms was a balm to my broken heart!

Their chemistry was so hot, from the very first meet-cute when they were teenagers. The attraction and the connection was so easy and natural, even when they were trying to mend their relationship.

"Combustible. Primitivo. Our attraction was primitive, raw, and beautiful in its savage vulnerability."

Even with the pain, the dangers and everything they had to go through, I enjoyed seeing them find their way back to each other and be the family they were always meant to be with little Eric, who was the cutest, most adorable and amazing kid ever! He melted my heart several times, because he also had his dreams come true and the happy ending he dreamed of! I could picture him in my head with his soccer jerseys and playing around with his ball, reminded me of all my primitos!

I loved to see all the Mendoza family being as loyal and supportive as always, especially Vicente and Dani as they enjoyed their happily ever after! I have to say, the Mendoza men are the bravest, hottest and swooniest guys ever! I can't wait to start Lily's book tonight and I will certainly be on the watch for Yovanni, Adrian, Eduardo and Oscar!

Another romantic and beautiful story that was heartbreaking just as it was full of hope!

Rose Croft, I'm obsessed. You're stuck with me now, you can't get rid of me! This book is a masterpiece and I will definitely recommend to everyone I know!

Rose Croft is a new to me author, and HOLY HELL! I NEVER EVER saw this story coming to me, and I'll never be the same. Primitivo is the story of Emilio & Sofia, who are each other's lobsters. However, there some big construction in life blocking them from being together forever. Sofia has had a very brutal life, even worse than Emilio's I do believe, and some very bad things happened in her past, especially since her father & the male family members weren't quite the law abiding citizens. Fast forward some years, and Sofia had to make the ultimate sacrifice for the love of her life, Emilio & her tiny human, Eric, as she would die before letting anything happen to them. She had to walk away, leaving them both, and with an excuse that would destroy Emilio so he doesn't try to find her. Fate wasn't having it though, and he goes out with his family for a night out, when he comes face to face with Sofia again, and it didn't go well, as he hates her. There are some big things happening, and he's determined to make her pay. Little does he know why she left, and he was very cruel to her, though she never made any excuses as to why, she just let him emotionally destroy her because she felt like she deserved it. I really despised Emilio for such a long time in this story, as he swore he loved her back then, and yet, he never looked below the surface. The things he said to her were uncalled for, because again, if he loved her as much as he said he had, maybe he would realize that nothing is as it seems. So, this story kept me on the edge of my seat with heart racing, while calling Emilio some very choice colorful metaphors, as I was #TEAMSOFIA ALL THE WAY. Anyway, does Emilio ever ask Sofia why she left them like that?! And if she answers, will he believe her so they can maybe just maybe have a second shot at their happily ever after?! You'll have to one click to find out! I can't say this enough, HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!

Life could be hard.
Life could be brutal.
Life could be unforgiving.
But at the end of the day, life could be wonderful if you fought for what is important.

The second book in the Mendoza family is E V E R Y T H I N G!

This book takes second-chances to the next level.

The first time I met Emilio in Cabezón he was the nurturer. The care-giver. He took care of everyone else in his family, in a different way than Vince. I was instantly like him.
And well, now I know his story... I am deeply in love with him.
The heroine in this story is Sofia. A strong girl that is willing to do anything to protect her loved ones.

Like Vince and Dani, Emilio shared a bond with Sofia from the start.
The attraction was there since the first moment.
They fell in love hard and fast.
But then, everything changed... Sofia's past caught up to her. She was forced to give up everything in order to protect Emilio and their son, Eric.
Emilio was devastated, even that putting it mildly. He was burned and became a distrustful man.
When fate threw Emilio and Sofia again together, it was the second-chance Sofia has been waiting for.
She did everything in her power to regain Emilio's trust again.
There were a lot of moments where I want to cry seeing how hard Sofia tries to right her action.
She was such a strong woman, I adore her.
Along with Emilio's trust, the two of them also reconnected and The truth is Emilio never stopped loving her.
Now with Sofia back in his life, Emilio takes protection over his family to the next level.

Family is still a strong point in this book.
How close was Emilio with Adrian and how Vince completely had Emilio's back in every situation...
It is a really great relationship.

I truly loved being in the Mendoza world.
Its culture and story are worth reading.
Can't wait for Jugador!

In book one we hear very briefly about the girl who walked away from her baby boy and partner, and I have to admit I was intrigued as to why, I knew there’d be an interesting story behind this girl...and there certainly is!

Sofia Flores has an inner strength that she desperately needs to draw upon quite a few times in her life. I have to admit I admired but worried about her and wondered just how things could improve for her at the same time. The author hooks you in very quickly and I promise you will be absorbed in everything Sofia and Emilio.

Emilio Mendoza is a loveable character, one who is sensitive and caring too. He does have a temper and is fiercely protective as well. Together he and Sofia had a loving relationship so when she left he was naturally devastated and confused. Time didn’t change that, which is realistic, but with the way the story is written a lot more is uncovered.

Once again you find yourself sitting on the edge of your seat with fear and anxiety for the characters. The build up and excitement is incredible but then there are many light-hearted moments too and with Eric, as is with most young children, there are some very funny scenes too. The balance showing the dark and light in life is perfect and some of the expressions are unbelievably imaginative, I love them.

There is so much to this fantastic story, I thoroughly recommend it to everyone.

Heartbreakingly Beautiful!

WOW! I loved book one - but book 2 was phenomenal, unbelievably heartbreaking and utterly beautiful. Emilio and Sofia's story will gut you, break your heart and will take you on a journey of heartbreaking tragedy and intoxicating love.

Sofia and Emilio are perfect for each other and they have a perfect little family. But Sofia's past comes back to haunt her and she leaves to protect her family. Emilio is gutted and heartbroken from the loss and turns his heartache into hatred and rage. When these two eventually find each other again the hatred and the electrifying attraction and chemistry between them is mind-blowing! These two characters pulled at my heartstrings and had me enthralled and captivated by their breathtaking and heart-stopping love for each other and their family.

Favorite Quote: "Flammable we were. I was the charcoal, and she was lighter fluid. It only took one strike of a match to set us off. Combustible. Primitivo. Our attraction was primitive, raw, and beautiful in its savage vulnerability." These words perfectly explain the chemistry and love between Sofia and Emilio.

Beautifully written story that will have you wanting more from this amazing author. I can't wait to see who she writes about next from The Mendoza Family. Highly recommend.

The Mendoza Family series has just become my new obsession...I didn’t think it was possible to outdo Book 1, Cabezon, but Emilio just became my #1 Book Boyfriend and this book my new favourite! This story wrapped itself around me, captivated me, and made me feel like I was right there.

I'm still trying to process this perfectly, imperfect story that will no doubt leave you an emotional mess.

From the beginning of the book I was already heartbroken and was actually contemplating in continuing to read the journey of Emilio, Sofi and Eric. I knew from the start that this book was going to break me and I wasn't wrong.

The things this couple endured and what they went through was just amazingly heartbreaking. Sofi especially was the one who made my heart ache from what she went through since she was a child. To have to have lived the life she did was hard and rough and very sad because I don't think anyone wants to live like that. She deserved better, so, so much better and when Emilio came into her life, he was her light from the dark that she was lived.

I absolutely adored Sofi and can't wait to continue to keep getting my heart broken with more of this series!

Rose Croft definitely delivered one hell of a book with Primitivo!!

Primitivo is the second book in ‘The Mendoza Family’ series by Rose Croft. This one centres around Emilio and Sofia. We saw a little bit of their story in the first book with his brother, Vince, so it was interesting to see the backstory from both characters and what had happened to get them to certain points.

There are heart-breaking moments when you realise what Sofia has gone through to protect her family and the general challenges both she and Emilio have faced in their lives. Eric really makes the story as he is a wonderful character and really pulls on your heart-strings.

To be honest, I wasn’t overly keen on Emilio in the first book, but having read this and the trials and tribulations he had been through both in the past and the present, he really did grow on me. He wants the best for his son and family and is willing to fight to get that…even though he’s moody!
If you like real-life, hard hitting emotional dramas with a lot of love in them, then Rose croft is an author for you! Get reading this series now!

Title: Primitivo
Author: Rose Croft
Genre: Contemporary Dramatic Romance
**RECEIVED ARC FOR HONEST REVIEW**
WOW!!! I was blown away reading the first book in the series but this author just keeps delivering such an honest, heartrending, soul tugging, glimpse into cultural norms and morays within our own current western culture. It makes you stop and ask yourself: Could I do that?

The emotional depth of each character is so poignant and powerful. And through it all, even as I shed a few tears, it was never written in such an intense graphic manner that I had to stop and take a breather. It was entertaining and at times very amusing. What do you expect when kids are involved?

Bottom line is this author is very talented and this series keeps getting better and better. I took Latin and French but seriously if a hottie spoke Spanish to me the way these men speak, so sexy...I need to go back and take Spanish. *sigh*

I really thought it couldn't get any better when I read Cabezón but I was so wrong! My poor heart went through the wringer with this one. My heart ached and my mind raced as the story unfolded. I was brought to my knees with tears in my eyes for everything that Emilio and Sofia endured. The sacrifices that were made on both ends to protect the ones they love. They both share pasts that break you to your very soul. Happily ever after isn't a concept that either of them are familiar with. But that doesn't stop them from fighting for it, fighting for a happiness that they more than deserve with their son, Eric. I am in love with this perfectly, imperfect love story. I am impatiently, anticipating the next journey with this family in book three, Jugador. #mustreadseries #booktoread #bookrecommendations #youwontbeabletoputitdown #thisbookiseverything

Primitivo by Rose Croft is the second book in ‘The Mendoza Family’ series. First was Cabezon, which you should read Cabezon so you get the full story. This is the story of three brothers. Vincente, Emilio and Yovani.
Vince had his with Dani in Cabezon, and this is Emilo and Sofia’s.
It’s a sad, suspenseful, somewhat tragic and angsty story of lovers turned enemies back to lovers. Emilo hates Sofia for abandoning, not just him, but their six-month-old son four years ago but she’d been given no choice in cutting all ties.
When fate brings them back together, they fight tooth and nail against their attraction but it’s a pointless battle. Two broken people who once loved hard and now have to face a harsh past before they can finally move on and live in peace. Will they be allowed the happy ever after they deserve? Find out in Primitivo today.

I can’t even describe right now how much I loved Primitivo by Rose Croft! She’s gone and taken all my feels, put them in a blender and mixed them together to make the ultimate emotional cocktail.
The Mendoza family never fail to disappoint.

In reality you’d think life is pretty straightforward; you meet the person of your dreams, fall in love, have babies and so on. For Emilio this may be the case, however he knows life isn’t as sweet and giving as most; there’s a fine line.

Book two of the Mendoza Family series is all I thought it would be and more. I was hooked on the love, loyalty, hope and affection and on the edge of my seat, because let’s face it those men are to die for!
I look forward to the next instalment.
I highly recommend this.

Second chance love at its best!!

Rose Croft has made it so hard to have a favorite Mendoza brother. I loved Vince in Cabezon and I also fell in love with Emilio in it as well because of how caring he was. But getting his story, OMG he's even more incredible than I thought. When he loves, he loves hard and fierce and nothing will stand in the way. Then there's Sofia, I wanted to hate her but with her back story and all that she had to endure, I couldn't help but love her and root for her and Emilio.
Finally the little boy that kept them connected, Eric is adorable and just from Ms. Croft's masterful writing you can just see a little Emilio who is going to love as fiercely as his father.
I cannot wait to see what is next for this family and whatever else Ms. Croft writes.

Hands down this book was fantastic and in my opinion better than book one. You are exposed briefly to Emilio in book one and this book dives into his story. I felt the author did such a great job developing this story and the writing is brilliantly done and captured me. This story contains twists, turns, huge obstacles for the two characters and will leave the reader immersed in the story with characters.

⭐️4.5/5

I was so excited for Emilio’s book because he was so freakin wholesome in the last book, but he was different in this book. Life hit him hard and he changed a lot. This was a lot darker than the other ones and hard to read at times. It made me sad for Emilio, Sofia, and their son. Seeing them being separated was hard and the anger they had made me feel so many emotions. I love seeing the slow reconnection, but it was a bitter sweet experience. I love the end though.

You kind of fall in love with the Hero in book one because of his charming ways and you want him to get a happy ending especially with all that happened with Dani but that's not the case Emilo goes through more heart break and pain when Sofia leaves him and his son. This book was so good in an emotional way.
