It's getting closer and the time for change is now.
He thinks I don't know his plan with all of this, but he's not as smart as he seems. I've watched him long enough—dealt with how high in esteem he holds himself, and that will be his downfall.
He won't hurt us.
He can't hurt us.
The winds are starting to shift in my favor, and I'll make him beg for a mercy he won't receive.
The ... Lakyn
Stupid kids.
Both of them.
They think they're so brilliant, that I don't know that they've been plotting against me since we took to the road, but I've got a little weapon that neither of them are even aware of yet.
The little perfect princess thinks that when we reach the end, it'll be over.
But for me?
That's when the fun will finally begin.
The ... Ichabod
I'm torn in two.
My loyalty for Beatrix is unshakable, but Lakyn ...
He's starting to make me feel wanted—truly wanted, and he's helping me stand on my own two feet. I love Bea, but she's never done this for me before.
He's opening my eyes to how she only thinks for herself and how the world will crumble beneath her heel when she snuffs out another life over her birthday candles.
But will it be mine?
Am I the one thing standing in her way of everything she's ever wanted?

Render them useless. Fuck them senseless. Kill them slowly.
I knew going into this book that I wasn't going to get the background to Bea's and Lakyn's stories. The little that I got explained a lot, but I would still have liked to know how does anyone end up like these two. I guess I will never know. But no matter, I enjoyed this one more than the first one because at least I had adjusted my expectations.
While I like how the whole thing came together, my new found peeve for this one is how abruptly it ended. But I guess it was to be expected, it started just as abruptly with no introductions. If nothing else, at least it was consistent. The stickler for details in me is still wondering though, how does an 18 year old girl ends up a priestess in the church of Lucifer, after so many bodies left mutilated why is no one on anyone's tail, where the hell do we go from here? Its a bit frustrating when the author has decided this is the end of the road, but I can see that there's still a lot on this road to be discovered or even explained.
But no matter, I liked the story. It has enough amount of dark and twisted that I needed at this moment in time.
OH. MY. GOD. This book!! I loved the first book, but this... this is insanity at its finest. Vultures is such a perfectly woven web of truths and lies. The ending is everything I never knew I wanted! The Malediction Duet is so dark and disturbing, so twisty and insane... but kinda sexy too, in a way that will leave you questioning your morals. It’s definitely not for the faint of heart. My fellow dark readers will LOVE this one! Highly recommend!
Ms. Olson did it again! After reading “Scavengers,” I didn’t particularly know what to expect and I admit, I still had no idea how everything would turn out for our killer trio until the very end of the book. They’re on the road again, and the power struggle (or the question of “who’ll out-psycho whom”) continues to grow. Will Lakyn be able to control his lust for blood (we’re not talking about regular lust because it’s a lost cause right there XD) and not turn on Beatrix and Ichabod? Will Beatrix finally get her revenge? Will Ichabod make it out alive? Will the fourth one in their van (sorry, no spoilers!) manage to escape? Pick it up to find out, but I definitely recommend you to read “Scavengers” first. Get ready for some blood, gore, and violence, and a trip that you will never forget. No putting any pressure on the author but I think we all need book 3 in the series. I’m not ready to say goodbye to these three yet!
Vultures continues the hell raising epic story of Scavengers with Beatrix, Lakyn and Ichabod. I continued to find these characters fun, sadistic, and ever so interesting to read.
The author kept the story going strong from book one throughout book two and make me continuously shift my perspective about the characters. In addition, I highly enjoyed the telling of the past by different characters that leads up to present events. Make no mistake, you will read about some crazy sh*t and blood shed - after all, they are scavengers and vultures.
Ever since the end of Scavengers I have been eagerly awaiting the conclusion to this duet, and Yolanda Olson delivered with dazzling sadistic perfection filled with mystery and intrigue that will keep you guessing even after it's over.
I loved the power struggle between Beatrix and Lakyn, and I honestly don't know who is leading who. Lakyn is silver tongued and slicker than an oil spot. And I'm surely convinced that he could talk a devout Nun out of her panties. While Beatrix is just as conniving and manipulative. Whenever I read her chapters I hear that song "Sweet but Psycho" by Ava Max, it's very fitting. Lakyn and Bea are a sociopath and a narcissist, respectively.
Still let's not forget about poor Ichabod. The pawn being moved about and stuck between an irresistible force and an immovable object. And being constantly used and abused by everyone. Yet there's one thing that I feel deep down; that both Lakyn and Bea, and everyone else, are underestimating him. Ichabod is a survivor and may be the one who comes out on top the true victor in the end.
Yolanda Olson delivers a definite 5 star duet that will leave you guessing and your mind blown. #2019MustRead
Holy moly! Ever since finishing Scavengers, I’ve felt like I’ve been waiting on that tipping point of a rollercoaster, anticipation bubbling, waiting for the continuation of the crazy threesome’s mind-blowing story.
I held on for dear life as this thriller of a tale, twisted my mind, and kept me turning the pages for more. I lapped up the insane mind and power games and again, my opinion of each character constantly changing. Beatrix and Lakyn are as unstable as each other and their individual traits, are fascinating. Ichabod, oh dear Ichabod, how I love his vulnerability and how he copes in trying to survive this nightmare he has found himself in.
Want a gripping story, that will rattle around in your mind long after you finish? Look no further, Ms Olson has delivered a mind-blowing duet!
Ohhh this is the rest of the journey of Beatrix, Lakyn and Ichabod. The priestess, the Devil and the junkie. Of course you have to read the first book to understand wth is going on. You will be completely lost if you don’t. Beatrix and Lakyn have this thing, it’s bloody, terrifying and primal. Ichabod is unfortunately just there for the ride lol that poor boy has no idea what he got into. As the trips ends the true story emerges or as my uncle would say “Don’t let the truth get in the way of a good story!” We see the true motives for what they did. Btw there should totally be a third book. I would definitely read more about these characters. Oh and this is not a sunshine and rainbows book, don’t expect happily ever after. Expect blood, guts and surprises in coolers.
This is a crazy, intense conclusion to the road trip from hell that started in Scavengers. And, not gonna lie, it is exactly what you would want it to be, and the perfect finale. This is definitely a fun take on a cautionary tale. Much like a 70's horror film that boils down to a few lessons that you should have learned long before now, and the characters still make the mistakes. And the best part is, you can't even warn them because you don't see it coming, either. Watching these characters evolve and become more, and some less, from where they began was amazing. Definitely a must-read!
This book is everything book one Scavengers is, on steroids. It's darker, grittier and a whole lot more wtaf about it. In Scavengers, Beatrix, Lakyn and Ichabod went on a road trip. Drastic understatement there. More like road trip to he!!. In this one we learn more about each person in the story, a bit more about their past, how they met or come from, things like that. Very interesting to see how vastly different a few are in this one compared to the first. So, so much loved this book. This duet is going to be one of my favorites of hers for a very long time.
Yolanda Olson has written a twisted and deviously clever sequel to Scavengers that kept me hooked to the very last page!
Unpredictable and devilishly wicked, this story and the characters take you straight into the depths with them, and I couldn't look away from my kindle. Its gritty and addictive plot left me open-mouthed and with my mind reeling.
Well slap my mouth and call me Mabel. Seriously, go ahead because after reading this mind screw of a book I would probably answer to it.
Beatrice, Lakyn, and Ichabod. These three will stay in your mind long after the last page. Don't even bother trying to figure out what's going to happen either because it won't happen.
Ah. The ride has ended. As usual, Yolanda takes you on one hell of a ride, but this time, it's Yolanda in the back seat as these three unforgettable characters don't just make their way through the story, they OWN it, take it over, and throw it down! Wild, raw, and fast-paced, Scavengers and Vultures are a duet made in Hell, and I ate up every word.
The title clearly said Malediction Duet... but it turned out there is no closure at the end of book #2, Vultures... the story just continues into Carrion. (I read Vultures as part of the Malediction Codex so I could skip ahead and have a peek.) Scavengers was only a 3 star read for me, what generally means: no way I'm gonna read the next book in the series. But after reading Scavengers I just 'needed' to know how Lakyn, Beatrix and Ichabod's journey would end. And that only ever happened once before: The Complete Inferno Series by Yolanda Olson. (Too intrigued to quit despite the books being only 3 star reads.) So Miss Olson's writing definitely has 'something' that appeals to me!!! 😉 Nevertheless... I'm not gonna read Carrion because I really had enough after two books. Two books that, for me, led to nowhere. It's depraved, sick and twisted (and funny 🤣 horror does that to me!) but that's it!! Things just go on and on... and on...; just more of the same... and repetitive. Hard to explain what exactly it is that I'm missing..... it's just, lot of things about the characters remain too vague... like I can't 'understand' why and what makes them do the things they do. I wouldn't say there is no real story... but somehow, for me, it kinda felt that way. And after two books, I'm done. 😁
I do want to read the Anathema series, the sole reason I read the Malediction Duet to begin with. Are you ready to meet the son of Lakyn Meyer? 😈 Definitely read the Malediction Saga first to meet Lakyn Meyer in all his glory first! The Anathema series is cowritten with Jennifer Bene and I'm a fan of Jennifer's writing. So I actually hope her style gives those books a little more of what I missed in the Malediction series.
Dark and twisted, deranged and sinister. That's what this story gives you. The things that happen in this book is crazy and It leaves you shocked. Lakyn, Beatrix, and Ichabod, are three people who lives are entwined in the most horrific way. Two of them are diabolical and the other one is accepting.
Vultures is about a planned out road trip, that isn't going the way they thought. The first half of the trip was crazy and this part is even more. By the end you will see people for who they are and see different stories for what they are.
Read Scavengers first to understand the dynamic trio, and the whole story.
Yes yes yes. This was an awesome read. A warped what the heck just happened read but yes an awesome read.
The dark part of me was jumping with joy over this story. Once I read book one Scavengers I couldn’t wait to read this and let me tell you I wasn’t disappointed.
I’m not gonna rehash the blurb or spill the storyline. I’ll just say that if you like your reads messed up with the what the heck am I reading kinda vibe then jump into this duet. You won’t regret it. If you want an easy read or a romance give it a wide berth lol
I’m so looking forward to reading more from this awesome author:)
Wow! What a ride! This duet has been the most different books I've had the privilege of reading. This Author is amazing! The imagination to come up with such a story astounds me! I want to warn those who can't handle darkness because this duet has been one of the darkest I've read so far! Please be aware of the trigger warnings for this book! If you are looking for the light , trust me ,you will not find it here! I feel like this isn't the end of this story, I hope it's not because that will surely disappoint me! I want more!!
This book omg!! Wow this book was everything I expected and more! This road trip with two psychopaths and a somewhat innocent was awesome!! This is why I love Yolanda Olson! She sucks you in from beginning to end and the ending is never what you expect! Well done Yolanda Olson on another amazing delicious dark read !!❤❤❤
I thought book one was AMAZING but book two was completely outstanding and Yolanda the Qween of Horror will now and forever be my all time favorite in horror ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I thought it would get crazier and it did. I do wonder what is inside Ichabod because there is something hiding in there. This is part two and they arrive at their road trip destination. I expected death but not like this. I do wonder what happens to Ichabod and is there more between Lakyn and Beatrice. Have a lot of questions. Loved this story. Loved to hate these characters. Thank you for the wonderful road trip.
Oh Fucking Christ ... what a trip that was ... yes I admit I was left with a mixture of emotion and feelings after finishing "Scaverngers" and I was anxious to know the outcome of this story, and now I can only say Yolanda as the rest of history, come back here ... Vultures begins with my trio following the journey and the dispute for the power still continues growing with each route, Lakyn still with its desire for blood, Trix still with certain determined purpose from the beginning of the trip and icha my sweet boy still lost ... will be that will both survive to the end ?! I really loved these stories and yes this book has led me to a much better insanity, involving myself in a web of truths and lies, and of course with an ending that gets you even more involved ... These books really is not for the weak of heart and yes for dark souls.
Yolanda only thanked me once more for sharing with us some of her darkness and making us happy readers ... I love her work.
